In second generation form, the Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer, sold between 2017 and 2020, gained a much more up-market demeanour, with greater class, refinement and sophistication. Handling was more agile too, thanks in large part to the considerable weight reductions this MK2 model could offer, savings made all the more impressive bearing in mind how much bigger this car became than its predecessor. Add in extremely competitive pricing and there are all the ingredients for an attractive used car market family pick.

Got one of these here in NZ, but ours is badged as a Holden Calais V. The best part…they’re powered by a 320hp direct injected 3.6l V6, 9sp auto and 4 wheel drive with the twinster rear differential . Very very underrated, and only failed because the Holden faithful only wanted rear wheel drive 🤪
Your top 2.0 petrol engine is fitted to our base model Commodore and only available with 2 wheel drive.
I went from a bi-tdi Passat estate to it and above all it’s the silence and comfort I love

hmmm..... in Dec 2023 I just got one.....
now, it is all very well talking about the engine variants, but if you buy one 2nd hand it is likely you'll take what you get.
What concerns me most is the ride, what is it like to DRIVE???.... I don't like the visibility. I think it is very restricted and that, to me, is a design flaw.
They've crammed in so much technology they've forgotten the need to see where you're going with a big heavy chunk of metal charging down the road.
I switched up from a Corsa (and, prior to that a Mazda 2) so I found there is a lot of car surrounding me and the visibility ain't great.
The rear mirror is rectangular and very close to me, (I'm 5'8" and like to sit high and forward) therefore the mirrors blocks a lot of the front view - also the rear window is like a D shape (on its back) so there is extra mirror for what you can actually see out the back
.... I'm seriously considering getting a glass cutter and reducing the size to see more out the front where I'll be going. However, there is a sort of black panel on the front windscreen anyway. It is like those taxis that have postcards and rosary beads hanging up... too much clutter for my liking.
Likewise there is a lot of bonnet, so, again, I can't see as much road as I would like.
I've not yet found a seat position that allows me to see the speedometer either over or under the steering wheel rim.
I found one adjustment for the steering wheel, but I've yet to find the right combination of seat & steering.
I think I can use the computer screen to show me the speedo - and I'm sure that will be what I end up doing.
On a fairly short drive I was frustrated having to keep ducking to see the speedo. It is very awkward and I am hoping I can find an adjustment.
The fancy computer console is interesting, but, on first drive largely superfluous to requirements - so how do I dim it at night?
It certainly wasn't intuitive and a cursory poke of things in a lay-by didn't enlighten me as to how to darken it - so I REALLY didn't like the poor visibility, thanks to glare, mirror and bonnet. I've done a lot of miles and, believe me, I am very fussy about being able to see where I'm going.
I've been through both manuals and couldn't find what I needed, but looked up the internet and I think it is in settings to put it in auto mode, then the computer screen goes dark.
The steering wheel has a bewildering array of switches & buttons - even the indicator stems & wiper controls seem to have several functions. As well as up and down to turn there is a twisty thing and even a switch on the end - with three positions.
So, there will be a BIG learning curve I think.
I like the shape of it, I like the smooth ride, and I like the power, but I'm not happy parking it yet. it is long and wide and I dislike the (lack of) visibility all around me.
The wing mirrors are curved and I'd like them bigger to get a wider field of view to see the side of my vehicle and a bit more height to the view too.
Forget design, forget streamlining - the function and purpose of me being able to SEE is paramount.
My resident's parking space has a kerb on one side, so I have to get that right and I like to be able to see the ground as I reverse to line up with that kerb. (without having to adjust the mirrors every time)
The computer does a lot of clever stuff - but I feel like I'm going to need a course.
Still, so far I have only done a short test drive and a bit of a jaunt to the petrol station today, so I can't wait to really sit in it for a couple of hours and acquaint myself with the starship Enterprise controls before I really use it properly. Sadly, I may not have time before I want to drive somewhere tomorrow - so I might end up walking (pity it is raining!)
I genuinely am thinking I might see if I can get a Vauxhall specialist to come and go over things with me as I've driven old bangers for 20 years and I'm not used to technology beyond a cassette player that I lost the code for so long ago I never used it. I'm an old geezer and I've driven for a livin' for years, I'm also a techno geek, but a new car and a fancy computer system all at once feels kind of daunting.
It is nice and I like it, but it will take some getting used to. I'm sure those of you who get a new company car every year will take these features in your stride.
I've just spent two days trying to figure out why my phone stopped talking to my desktop computer, so I'm not looking forward to messing with bluetooth.
Thankfully I don't use my mobile phone for calls (I have no friends) so I'm not anticipating taking calls on the move, but if the phone rings I doubt I will be answering - though I might wave back with the windscreen wipers or turn up the volume of the radio when I hit the wrong button.
I can't wait to try out the video player - and I am gagging to see if I can get that hooked up to my insta 360 camera somehow, perhaps via my iPad or phone, but that would be nice.
I don't think I'm really expecting that combo to work - but maybe I can get some use out of it - even to play back the videos I just shot, because there is a sim slot.
I wanted an estate and, beyond that, just something that will Go / Stop and have a cup holder.
I am also looking forward to controlling the climate crisis, so I can stop the side windows steaming up.
By the time I'd driven 14 miles I was actually quite glad to get home in one piece and realised I would have to commit to several hours going through the manuals diligently and sitting in it poking things before I go anywhere.
