How can not more people have seen this video/channel? The production, sound and light is beautiful, OK - the cringe "hype" in the beginning is sight to be unseen but hey, everything else is so freaking good!
I just discovered your channel and I love it, especially your Eurovision technical reviews. Can you tell me where I might find a list of the various Eurovision themes you mentioned?
It postdates this video and I'm biased but I thought 2023 was done exceptionally well. Rather than have the hosts trying to out ad-lib each other, the BBC chose a much cleaner solution - Loreen's winner's walk was completely instrumental for about 2 minutes; giving the commentators a window do their summing-up and confirm how the local Televote had gone. It went on for ages but having all the corridors lined with people applauding was a cool touch. I'm also one of the few people who thought the BBC's original plans for the SF Q/NQ reveal would have massively ramped up the tension. I felt the BBC were a little premature in getting rid of that. Conversely I wasn't a fan of Malmö 2024 where the reprise was done without any of the staging, which is something Melodifestivalen also did earlier in the year. For me, that just didn't quite work.
Well! You'll be pleased to know I'm working on 2022 coverage and potentially a follow up to this to compare - but, 2021 I feel was *that* good. A cultural reset of a new standard - the future of contests. I'll rewatch 2022 but as far as what immediately comes to mind, 21 edges it out!
Re Lisbon 2018: isn't the reason why the hosts went straight to announce Israel as the winner because it was obvious? 😅 There's only two countries left to announce, the top 2 of televote. Cyprus, who was lower in jury points, got announced first, which meant they got the 2nd highest televote score. This also meant that Israel got the highest televote score. Combined with their higher jury points than Cyprus, Israel had to have the highest overall score.
You're right. And it was also a bit of a mess in 2017 as it wasn't obvious who won. I thought Bulgaria had done it for about 10 seconds! KAN's decision to change the order based on worst-to-first with juries was much better televisually, and it's worth nothing Melodifestivalen - where the idea came from in the first place - followed suit.

Haha! Glad you especially liked the cringe at the beginning! Thanks so much for your very kind words!

Hi! Thank you for your comment. I've put the ones referenced in the description!

I only discovered your channel today, but it is awesome. It does make me wonder though... where do the 2021 and 2022 editions end up in your rankings?
