Barbra Streisand and Vic Damone brought out the best in Judy’s voice. It looks like she really enjoyed singing with Vic’s baritone and using her voice in ways she didn’t normally. Their harmonies were stunning.
Of all the duets on her shows she and Damone fit each other like a glove. Both had ranges that could sing Broadway songs better than most. Together they were great.
Vic Damone is the greatest singer of all time. I have been “in love” with him for over 70 years. He celebrated his 89th birthday on June 12, 2017. I hope he celebrates many, many more happy and healthy birthdays. I never tire of listening to him. Love ya, Vic.
Damone was one of the finest singers in Hollywood. Sinatra, Bennett and the others had great respect for his talent. As they should. Judy sang perfect harmonies throughout. They made a perfect match on this medley of Bernstein/Sondheim treasures. This music never gets old.
you don,t see talent like this today the so called singers are here one minute gone the next Talent like this will last forever Thank you for posting this
Wow...love Vic Damone, but JUDY's voice here soars with such excitement, scaling her range with assuredness and power. Something's Coming is amazing; and the unexpected arrangement of Somewhere/Tonight, with Damone and Judy singing a difficult counterpoint beautifully with Judy nailing the last set of high D's is spectacularly emotional. I can't recall the last time a popular singer has made me FEEL like Judy did and can.
Wow !!!!!! What can one say ? Just absolutely breathtaking. I am in awe of their God given talent. I wonder what Sondheim thought of this? There is no way that there is a more beautiful and exciting version of these songs !
I noticed that too because my big bro and I swap highs and lows that way when we harmonize. It's such a cool sound when men and women do that. It's unexpected!
I just saw this on Get TV... it made me cry. So beautiful. So sweet. Sent it to my daughter who was in West Side Story her senior year and is a longtime Judy fan. RIP Ms Garland! ❤️
Wow, they don't make performers like these anymore. This was awesome. People who really can sing without a studio to tweak and autotune voices. The kiss at the end--Damone was between marriages and Garland unhappy in hers. It was touching.
Thank you SO much for having posted this pure gem ! I don't know how many times I enjoyed this medley in CD, so to watch it now is such a thrilling experience... All my thanks, very gratefuly ^_^
Technically, Damone was excellent. Sinatra said that Damone had the best pipes in the business. The only problem is that he had no magic or spark; on screen or in person, he was boring, however talented. If we all chose the best "singers" (technically) as our favorites, we'd all be listening to opera. Instead, we choose singers whose voices reach us emotionally; to us, THEY'RE the BEST!
The problem Damone had was his perfection. Most listeners cannot appreciate it. They want someone more like themselves. His fan base was those with the ability to appreciate his many great gifts.
He wasn't charismatic as a stage performer, but he was a great singer. Listen to his jazzed up "Stella by Starlight" and lush "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" or live versions of "We Have all the Time in the World" and "For Once in My Life." Excellent.
Love the "West Side Story" score but never liked "Something's Coming" that much although I respect the Larry Kert original. No because of Ms. Garland I'm sold on the song. Maybe life was hard and the optimism appealed to her and it I believe it shows in her vocals.
It IS amazing....and it's also lip-synched. (notice Judy's flub at 7:16). The night they prerecorded their voices were. to quote SCS, "at their zeniths." Pretty much so, wouldn't you say? But I have to prefer the "Kismet" duet - done live. Killer!
That is also my absolute favorite of their 3 duets they performed on her 3 different TV shows! Judy Garland was at her absolute very best on the "Kismet" medley!😱🤗💌
Judy Garland has never been surpassed to this day in West Side Story
OMG!!!! She literally melted in his arms. What a glorious performance! I'm smiling with tears streaming down my face at the same time!!!
No auto tune or prerecorded. Just pure talent! ♥️

She was THE BEST!
They knocked this out the park. One of Broadway's more difficult scores to boot.
Of all the duets on her shows she and Damone fit each other like a glove. Both had ranges that could sing Broadway songs better than most. Together they were great.

oh my god, they’re simply stunning. I love their Porgy and Bess medley too. What a gift to hear them.

Judy Garland what a masterpiece!

Alan Stamp incomparable
Im afraid not even my Whitney...😲
I think the high notes are tenor high C's in that Judy did not have a chest high D she could sustain.
I am always completly mesmerized by Judy. This is a special video. Vic was great, too.
the best version of west side story's songs i've ever heard, what two wonderful talented people!
Pure musical magic. I never tire of this amazing medley sung by two of the best ever.
Love Frances Gumm 👠

6:47 chilling!! such talent!
two of the biggest voices of the 20th century
the harmonies on "somewhere" give me goosebumps, awesome performance
wow!!!! that note that she hits at the end is AMAZING!!!! i just adore Judy Garland and this performance made it even more clear why!!! Thank you:-)
Rest in Peace Vic....Your part of that vanishing era. !!
Gives me chills every single time I watch. “Tonight”
West Side Story is the first movie I ever just started sobbing to.
great video, what voices! I really wish that Judy had been well enough to do a Broadway musical, I'm sure she would be fantastic.
I love this. I miss my Uncle Vic, I miss talent!
they harmonize so well at around 430 cool that her voice is lower than his imagine this coming into your living room I would have been blown away
I noticed that too because my big bro and I swap highs and lows that way when we harmonize. It's such a cool sound when men and women do that. It's unexpected!

A brilliant pairing of greats both musically as well as vocally. TY
SUPERIOR! OUTSTANDING!
Simply fantastic! Thanks for posting.
Judy is transcendent
"Tonight" just slayed me!
This was really magic.
Not magic... but a Gift of God ✝️
Love them together singing west side story songs, and they sang this again tighter on Hollywood Palace back in 1965. Love U Judy. Peace
In his prime Damone had a beautiful voice. And he had plenty of competition. But he could compete with all of them.
this absolutely bring tears to my eyes ..what a glorious glimpse of the past!
Timeless artistry.
GREAT! THE DIVINE GARLAND! 🥲!
First time hearing this. Great!!
Thanks so much for posting! WSS is my favorite musical. And with Judy and Vic Damone singing this medly it makes it even better.
Beautiful
Judy's voice was almost operatic in this, it brought me goose pimples! How beautiful!
Well... sounded like Marilyn Horne, if Marilyn Horne smoked a pack of Newports.
with judy's full rich quality voice ..who needs a boring operatic vocal exercise...
ian1856 Listen to her and Danny Kaye doing an opera spoof, it’s on UA-cam. She could have sung opera if she chose!
@@akrenwinkle She sounds much better than nasal, constricted Horne.
@@AnimeMovement Oh, puh-leez!
Thank you!!!!
Incomparable
I WAS A JET IN WSS, IN SF (WITH MORGAN FREEMAN)..WHO KNEW?...JACK ENGLISH..7/2019..WEHO
Passing by AGAIN! WoW! They where Fantastic! It keeps getting better Better BETTER ,OUT OF THE PARK!!!!!! Peace
Thank you SO much for having posted this pure gem ! I don't know how many times I enjoyed this medley in CD, so to watch it now is such a thrilling experience... All my thanks, very gratefuly ^_^
So moving
He was born to sing this.
Technically, Damone was excellent. Sinatra said that Damone had the best pipes in the business. The only problem is that he had no magic or spark; on screen or in person, he was boring, however talented.

I'm too impressed by the perfection of his voice and the execution of the song to notice the superficial elements.
He wasn't charismatic as a stage performer, but he was a great singer. Listen to his jazzed up "Stella by Starlight" and lush "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" or live versions of "We Have all the Time in the World" and "For Once in My Life." Excellent.
oh my god...
WOW!!!!
I like the sneer on Damone's face about minute 3. Judy does wonderful counterpoint to the tune Somewhere.
LOVE EVERY SONG,..INSPIRING ,...LOVE THIS
Earthbeauty Wanda Farmer 💗
"West Side Story" has made me cry from the first time I experienced decades ago to this very day. The music transports me.
Not bad for an ole broad-just kiddn lol
Judy was friggin FANTASTIC
Spectacular ….
MAGNIFICENTLY MARVELLOUS !!!!!!!!! PEACE&LOVE
The best of the best!
Happy Birthday Vic Damone !!
Love how she covers her flub at 1:46 by turning her head and smiling.
Broadway Classics I saw no mistake....she was a true pro!! 😊
Too bad it didn't also include One Hand, One Heart. But still...great!
What has happened to GREAT TALENT.
Love the "West Side Story" score but never liked "Something's Coming" that much although I respect the Larry Kert original. No because of Ms. Garland I'm sold on the song. Maybe life was hard and the optimism appealed to her and it I believe it shows in her vocals.
Two Greats.
He looks just like James Bond, it's awesome :)!
R.I.P. Stephen Sondheim
Now I can die
rip vic
West Story is my all time fave musical
Judy and Vic do it no injustice
does anyone out there have the footage of these two singing a porgy and bess medley...? it's from the same episode as this clip here-
Civilization was so much better. How did we ever let go of it?
Does anyone know when this was first broadcast?
1964

In the words of the Bard: Star-crossed lovers. But only if you believe in astrology...

so sad she did not play this part on film - the dubbing was bad enough, not to fault natalie wood
I'm sorry, but I disagree. Marnie Nixon's voice on the audio track was absolutely superb.
Listen to this and then listen to Britney Spears...you'll hate Britney within 20 seconds
Lexi Danielle Rohrich 😄
or Lady Gaga or Beyonce Miley Cyrus or the other near do wells that pass for Superstars nowadays...
Ten thumbs down from 20 tin ears.
