We ported our 604 numbers to a service called NumberBarn. We get a local SIM for whatever country we are in. Then we can log into NumberBarn and forward our phones to the new SIM. This has worked out well for us for a year now. Text messages and voicemail resides with NumberBarn and is sent to us via email. In Mexico we get a Telcel SIM. We pay 300pesos ($20CAD) for 30 days of unlimited calling & texting to Canada/US/Mexico, and 3GB of data. If we run out of data we can put another 300pesos on the account at anytime and the 30 day clock resets.
Great video, useful info as usual, the plan I use when travelling to the U.S. is US Combo Pack 35 30-Day Travel Pack includes: Unlimited calling to Canada and the US Unlimited Text Messages to Canada and the US It's an add on to my Eastlink mobile, Eastlink is found I believe in Ontario and Atlantic provinces. With this plan you do not get data which sucks but the data plans are just too expensive, so we use public wifi which is available everywhere and also have a vpn for protection. We don't have data on the go so we get the info required prior to leaving for a new destination or info for the area we are boondocking. This plan is 35.00 dollars canadian plus tax, very reasonable for the month.
Wow, that sounds like a really good deal. And it includes full US roaming too, I assume? No data is definitely a hassle, but perfect if you're not straying too far from wifi -- which is just about everywhere these days.
Thanks for the free education! We’re going to Thailand in December and I think we’ll just be using the hotel Wi-Fi with Messenger and WhatsApp! While we’re out, we’ll be with our son and daughter-in-law and they’ll know what to do!
Yeah it's usually easier to go with simple options for shorter trips. When we went to Thailand years ago we got local sim cards for our phones and had really affordable pay as you go plans. That might be an option for you, too?
Very informative thanks. There is no reliable Internet /phone service at my cottage in Ontario. Trees are too high and other providers are horrid lol. I have a large data plan on my phone and iPad which I use most of the time, but in peak summer months they are not that great either. Was hoping you had a better solution. Looking forward to watching your Mexico adventure.
Yeah, annoyingly data plans are really expensive in Canada. One of the more reasonably priced providers we've been able to find so far was public mobile.
Thank you so much for this information it must have taken you a lot of effort and time to put this info together and I appreciate it very much thank you

Wow, this is another really great option! Thanks for sharing!
Interesting. Thanks
It's amazing how many options and providers there are out there! Hoping this plan will work for us well 🤞
Great tips! Thanks
You bet! Hope it comes in handy for you one day 😀
