Got to be part of 1st/509th as an Augmentee from 3/327th Infantry, 1st BDE/101st Airborne Division (AASLT) when JRTC was at Ft. Chaffee, AR in the summer of 1991. Learned A LOT from 1st/509th during that rotation (we smoked an TF from the 75th Ranger Regiment) that stayed with me during my active duty career. "Geronimo!".
Yea, I did a rotation as an augmentee with Gman as well and learned a truck load as well. We advise for as many people possible to volunteer as auggies.
Would enjoy a short episode just discussing the MILES gear and its capabilities, downfalls and future plans. I'm very curious as to how the MILES gear combines with the OC/T decision making and if there is any conflicts or issues when deciding wins and losses in simulated combat.
I will suggest that to the team. There actually are decisions made by the OCT team that weigh the MILES, training objectives, training value, and the status of the unit. The goal is to make it hard as we learn the most in life thru our stumbles but not too hard that the unit loses confidence in their leadership or the unit halts in training value / advancement. How familiar with MILES are you? If you’re active duty, I can send you a roll up, but in the future there be an upgrade in the software that MILES integrates into (currently called the instrumentation system to synthetic training environment) that will have smaller sensors that work better and are more integrated into the simulation system.
@@TheCrucible-TheJRTCExperience Very Interesting, I do have some experience with the MILES Ive done 2 CTC rotations as a weapons company commo rep. Not active duty, just prior service. Thanks for the reply. I imagine it’s a difficult job balancing between good training value and realistic combat simulation.
Geronimo is an experience unlike any other. ‘95-97 was still in the early years after we moved from Chaffee in ‘93. 5th Aviation still had their HIND flying.
Yea, I came in back in ‘02 as well. Lots of crazy miles. Whats old is new again as the saying goes. The real question is are we bringing lessons learned in blood forward or are they merely observations?
I’m at ABOLC and stationed at Ft. Johnson upon completion of my initial training assigned to FPM listed as an ABCT. I asked and they said I would be assigned to opfor JRTC. I am still confused how I would fit into being opfor, do you have any insight into my position?
Absolutely. So Ft Johnson has two bullets for armor/cav officers. 3-10 IBCT has a cavalry squadron and then our OPFOR element has a reinforced armor-mech team that replicate MBTs & IFVs of various threat forces. Email the.JRTC.crucible.podcast@gmail.com with your NIPR email and I’ll send you some best practices from our CAV TF for you and anyone else you want to share it with
Great video & interview! For clarification, how are OPFOR tanks & BMPs role-played by Geronimo? I understand the concept of JRTC’s Geronimo, but am curious about their mech / tracked equipment. Never went to JRTC, but was always curious. The concept of “free reps” appeals to me. Cheers! O7
@@TheCrucible-TheJRTCExperience Just did a few rotations. My last rotation was in 2004 Nov-Dec, etc. Don't remember when but it was right before deployment to Iraq and was the best rotation I ever had (3rd). There was Special Forces group there and some of the guys in my unit were attached to SF. I prob learned more in 30 days than I did a whole year in my regular unit.
No, for NCOs and officers there’s multiple task force elements that form the observer-coach-trainer positions that mentor the units that receive training at the JRTC. Ft. Johnson also has 3 BCT, 10 MTN that is an infantry brigade.
I had the privilege of being a Geronimo for almost 8 years. Best time of my 15 yrs in the Army.
Getting to be the bad guy is always a good time.
My son (11B Airborne) just recieved his orders yesterday...he'll be joining this gentlemans battalion August 21st.
Looks forward to having him as part of the team.

One of the best Commander of Ops group
I was in Bco and HHC. Best job in my 20 years

I was in Delta Troop in 1995-97. It was a horrible post and terrible job but it was also a once in a lifetime opportunity. Incredible experience.

It’s interesting -having been a G man from 2002 to 2007- that we’re going back to the way it was when I first got there.

1/509 has the concept of "Task Forces" down to a science.
"We dont need to cheat" Brother, I've spoken with your joes after dying and both sides have MILES that have no batteries lol

Their vehicle “mock-ups” called OPFOR Surrogate Vehicles (OSV) that are based on M-113 chassis and are designed to represent BMP-2/3s and T-80/90s.
@@TheCrucible-TheJRTCExperienceThanks!
I remember when the tanks were old vismodded M551s.
I was A co 3rd platoon. We were at my time the 🎉of the battalion. Work hard play harder types 😂
Geronimo!!!!!
Why are they talking about a fictitious country like Arnland when they could be talking about the real problems occurring in Atropia.....
Couldn't agree more. Make Atropia Great Again!
I miss this place lol
Were you stationed here or just took part in the rotations?

Thank you for clarification, sir.
Bring me on
A co, B co, and Recon platoon, 1/509 PIR. Get some G-Men.
Gotta love the most hated unit in the Army
Ask them do they cheat? If they say no, they're lying. If they say yes, good!!!! What do U.S. Soldiers think the enemy is going to do?
I mean wasn’t it Joe Montana that said “you ain’t tryin if you ain’t cheatin.”
