Focal anytime anyday. For me personally, detail retrieval is important, no point going for 'musicality' when it is masking so many minute details. Thats just me. Would also like to see what you think about the Vestias and the new Aria Evo X, which is a more civilized, matured, refined and calmer sounding speaker than the original Arias.

Sticking to creek amp (it does not make too much sense to match 1k speakers with the Pass, and also because I liked it better in many combinations) my favorite list is:
    1-Focal
    2-Acoustic Energy
    3-Dali
with 2 and 3 quite close.

Considering the comparison, I agree with your conclusions and I would like to add that Dali's turning point on producing really good loudspeakers started with the very inexpensive Zensor series almost a decade ago. To my eyes (and ears) they are currently hitting it out of the park with their Oberon and especially Opticon (mk2) series. On a side note, they pair extremely well with Primare and Audiolab electronics.

For when you audition speaker cables, please consider the Tellurium Q brand -- Blue II's and/or Black 2's for example. IMHO, great cables at a realistic price level.
Also, I don't know if you've ever done a show on open baffle speakers, but I'd love to hear that. If one DIY's them, they can have just the one full-range driver per baffle (no soldering required).
You can also get the baffles professionally cut for something like clones of the Decware ZF15M in 40mm thick oak for a total price of c. £1300 a pair, baffles and drivers included. This is appreciably less than the price of the ready-made speakers (at least £3500 before shipping, customs and VAT). The plans from Decware are dirt cheap at $30. IMHO, this is one heck of a deal and to my ears they sound exquisite.

Hi. We have a few sets of speaker cable we utilise for tests: Art Speak, Driade Flow 405 and 808 Reference and the vd Hul Nova. That's enough to choose from already.
Open baffle: we are probably not going to test that. Too much of a niche, too much dependency on the room for the performance. It is a subject we won't draw enough of an audience to make the effort worthwhile, something we consider as well. We thought, for instance, that the phono stages multi test would generate interest. Not so much.

      @@jmtennapelThankyou for the reply. 🙂
Surprised there'd be little interest in open baffles. In my experience (admittedly probably rather less than yours), they depend less, rather than more on the room. Could just be my main listening room I suppose, or maybe my main preamp/power amp combo, but both pairs of open baffles I possess sound considerably better than any closed box design (up to £1500) I possess.

Fentons should not be allowed on the market. Killjoys, will put people off. You can get great stuff for the price on the used market. I liked the acoustic energies especially on the pass labs. Dali sounded bright to me by maybe I should blame the Fentons for that . I liked them much better with the pass labs again. Too bright with Creek/infineon. I thought the focal sounded veiled on the Pass, better on the Creek surprisingly. But Sohn much better on the pass.
Some other alternatives I would be interested in in Q-acoustics 5040 and Heco Aurora 700. From these i would pick the Acoustic Energy.

I’ve always been a fan of tower over Standmounts…and the Narrower, dual woofer design Towers are more “complete” and give way to pairing with more expensive Amps and Dacs however some may say it shouldn’t be done…why!!?? I have a pair of the original KLH Kendalls which beat the Q’s in every way, and cost me a pittance of 1200.00 for the pair. I’m surprised how much equipment is “forward” of the speakers in your test room. And I’ve heard no speakers that sound better with the grills on?? Next time test them with and with out. And yeah, it’s awfully difficult to play tracks that any of you don’t know and haven’t heard to actually “compare”. Why not have a a group of select songs that are played on each test?? That’s how we did it when auditioning gear years ago!! Before streaming sadly…. The reality is, there are a group of choice floorstanders, that sonically…are excellent, costing less than 1500.00!! They can be pretty much be paired with any front end and perform well. The AE’s and the Dali are two of those Brands that deserves the “Audiophile” stamp!! And all that nice Camera gear, capture some good close ups of the speakers with the grills off!! Be nice to hear a few more specs as well. Keep it up guys, doin good!!!

I have heard of Fenton speakers but never listened to them in person. They are also branded Skytronic in some markets. Cheap and nasty speakers and going by some of the videos on YT, contain no crossovers, really thin cables and no internal bracing or sound absorbing filling. They are about the same quality as White Van Speakers. CORRECTION: I just watched the YT video I was referring to again and the speaker does have an electrolytic cap on the tweeter and one brace glued to the inside. Still very cheap and nasty: ua-cam.com/video/lcCK6qjnun0/v-deo.html

While of course I agree with your assessment of Fenton, the lack of a crossover on the woofer is not necessarily an indication of a bad speaker. Relying on the natural rolloff of a driver can sound very natural to my ears. Like anything it's a tradeoff and all depends on the overal design, choice and quality of drivers etc. Woofers should start to beam and experience cone breakup at higher frequencies but it's not something I necessarily seem to hear or find objectionable. Oh well audio remains a mystery and dark art.
