Hi
Something quite different this time...
A Mercedes Unimog 435 1300L, this came to me due to low beams and ignition always ON, discharging the batteries...
A lot of retrofits etc... have been done over the years, so you can imagine that some weird stuff was found...
UPDATE:
A bit of research later, something I should have done before record this video... revealed that the bigger switch, with the S modes, is the blackout switch, used by the military... Obviously this is no longer in use on this truck, and therefore no longer relevant. Unfortunately, due to all the addons and retrofits done, It is difficult to figure it all out how everything has been wired over the years...
Hope this makes sense at the end of the video.
Video for the fuel level indicator/gauge not working:

The light switch is a NATO switch. Tag is all lights off but warning lamps, alarms and dash lights etc work. 1 & 2 is for park/sides and dips. The high beam works off the stalk. When the switch is at tag, press down and move to 0. All the alarms, dash lights and vehicle lights, etc are switched off. S1, S2 & S3 are convoy lights for driving with night vision. Theyre probably not installed. Hope the info helps
☺️
I found out that afterwards... I have put a briefly explanation on the video description...
Yes... all that is not installed anymore...
Thank you for the explanation!
👍👍👍
It's a similar format on military Land Rovers. Very confusing to diagnose if someone has been in before you and swapped random wires.
Indeed...
☺️
Luis, that Unimog is quite the beast. Well done for getting the electrical sorted.
☺️
Indeed it is...
Thanks!
👍👍👍
All that vehicle, just to go to Asda and back . Lol , Well done again
😅
Thanks!
👍👍👍
Wow that's a beast jobs like that are best avoided take a lot of time trying to work out how everything is wired up
☺️
Extra lights probably Ex Military for convoy work. Brilliant video and deffo different.
Military know how to wire these things. More likely an amateur 'have a go' chancer!
Ex-military indeed I have done some investigation afterwards to understand what they were...
Read the video description...
👍👍👍
@@Toby_the_Glen I agree i'm ex Military and the wiring would've not been bodged. That would.ve been done after it left the Military.
Hi Luis, nice video, this unimogs are great,it s look like a car that can go places! Have a great weekend and happy holidays! :)
Indeed! Can definitely go to places! ☺️
Happy Holidays!

😅
The manual with the diagrams was actually brought by the owner!
Lucky indeed... plenty of trial and error on this one!...
👍👍👍
Quit a challenge Luis, lots of hours in that? I guess double the voltage, double the price 😂
It took some time indeed...
Undoing what was done, and then figure it out how to properly connect it...
👍👍👍

Thank you!

Do you repair cars…can I bring my bmw e90 to you for a suspected thermostat fault?
APPROPRIATE NAME IS ISOLATOR SWITCH
Kill switch is also a comom name for it...
The important is that it refers to the same thing...
