Time sure does fly eh! It’s been a long process but we are getting very close. As you probably know there is a lot of hoops to jump through getting this AC type on the AOC. Both on the Transport Canada side and Boeing maintenance and certifications. We are very close now to bringing the aircraft to Canada. Still need a little more time for the Import and test flying the new avionics.

It's a tough, versatile plane. In 1972 Boeing arranged to have a 737 land on a short, grass strip at Hope, BC, to demonstrate its capabilities. There are videos of this on the web but there is an error in the headings. They refer to Hope as being in the Rocky Mountains, but it is in the Coast range.

I remember watching a buffalo episode and it was all about the weather sux, we can't fly. It was as if no plane could fly in these conditions, meanwhile in the background you could see a WestJet 737 climbing out with zero issues. Just kind of reminded me the colossal different between modern jets and those old radial prop planes.

I was at Norfolk Va airport in 1973. ( so long ago, it might have had Regional in it's name) The airport had no traffic because the snow removal equipment was having major problems. Jets were not coming in or leaving. Then I heard it.....RADIAL ENGINES on something big. I could make out the big nose of a C-46 above the ground fog. Only plane that flew in that day.

It been my favorite plane to fly for over 25 years (200, 300, 500, 700, 800 series). Best part is you can get a mechanic to work on it around the globe, and there's a great supply of parts. From what i understand, There is no gravel kit for the NG series of 737's the big CFM engines sit too close to the ground and have to big an opening to stop gravel entering, where the classic 100/200 the JT8D's sat higher off the ground and were small enough diameter that the gravel kits were able to significantly reduce the chances of gravel ingestion

@@williamcarnero9595 No such thing as a gravel kit for anything but the 200, the newer Gen engines are too big and close to the ground

You could probably make a gravel git for pretty much any aircraft - but it isn't worth it with all these gravel capable aircraft already in existance, such as the -200, some rear engined ones and them turboprops..

Congratulations! Looks like you are getting older like the rest of us! The 737 was designed to sell to 3rd World Countries whose pilots were notorious for poor training and hard on the aircraft. Turns out to be almost as successful as the DC-3. Great choice.

    • @quinnjim

Almost? I’m pretty sure the 737 is the leader.

    • @Ozinater

That's a pretty asinine statement. A well engineered airplane is not designed specifically so that poorly trained pilots can fly it. There are plenty of folks in first world countries turning "idiot proof" airplanes into heaps of burning metal as we speak. The -300 is a rugged platform but it wasn't built that way just so it could take a beating from lousy pilots. There have also been almost 11,000 737's built to date, but only 600 or so DC-3's- easy to see which is more commercially successful.

    • @fritz46

Designed for poorly trained third world pilots? The first (and almost all) 737-100s were ordered by Lufthansa, the 737-200 was initially ordered by United.
