    Well done on pushing through to the finish. I found the switch from freezing start to quite hot finish took a bit out of me today. Finished in 3:53 which I was really chuffed with having DNF’d in 2021, and having narrowly missed a sub-4 in another race in 2022.

    Also ran Brighton yesterday and was aiming for a PB (previously 4:12:36) and maybe even a push for sub-4. The race went pretty well for me up until the final 2-3 miles where I really started to struggle but even with 2k to go there was a chance of sneaking in under 4 hours. Unfortunately my legs just completely deserted me in the final 800 metres and I walked twice. Just couldn’t summon the energy for any kind of finish. Completed it in 4:01:40 - still a huge PB but slightly disappointed I couldn’t get that sub 4

    Well done for getting round Chris. Given you're easily a sub-20 5K runner, I don't think your quicker than intended early miles were the problem - slightly fast but your body should be able to handle that.. The splits show you ran well to 18-miles and then hit new territory that your lack of training couldn't handle. No shame in that - your current lifestyle isn't sympathetic to your goals. There are many people who would be happy with a sub 4hr marathon and you'll be back👍

    BRAVO Chris … now you’ve given me a future goal ‘cause I must admit I’m kinda jealous that you can do such a “relaxed fun” marathon, stopping to chat and get hugs along the way and STILL do well under 4h!!!! I sincerely hope to be there one day myself!! I am absolutely shattered trying to get 4h at the Paris marathon yesterday… 4:01:28!!! Lots of dry vomiting right after the finish line !! Unfortunately it was sooooo crowded with many many bottlenecks , dodging and weaving and running into people and getting run into, especially the 2nd half and not far from the end we were basically walking through a huge runner jam !! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Absolutely exhausting and energy sapping!! Voilà!! But I still got a 5min PB!!! And a 29min course PB!!! 😃🥰💪🏻🏃🏻‍♀️💪🏻 Next time I’ll smash that 4h and you your 3h30!!!! 🙋🏻‍♀️

    • @ThatRunningGuy
      @ThatRunningGuy  Рік тому +3

      Well done on smashing your PB that’s amazing. Pleased for you and you should feel proud getting so close to your target. I’m 100% sure you’ll get it next time. For me from 18 miles it definitely wasn’t fun but tried to make the most of it. Those hugs, humour and the atmosphere really helped. Going forward I’m going to just stick to 5-10k’s as my heart just isn’t in the longer distances. But WE should feel proud…WE RUN A MARATHON!

      @@ThatRunningGuy Ohh THANK YOU SO MUCH!!😁 I'm the opposite, I constantly want more volume, longer distances, but I certainly did NOT feel that way during those last killer 12km yesterday, noooooo way!!! I used a little trick from Paul the DevRunner who said during his livestream last week with one of his coaching clients, when you feel you can't, that it's impossible, just speed up for a moment, give yourself a little burst of speed!!! Wow!!! THAT worked a treat!!! One of the most useful things I've ever heard!!! Every time my brain started to think it's impossible, which it absolutely WAS, I just sped up a little!! It's just incredible how much more we are capable of than we think or feel!!!!

A little more volume and maybe some strength work and I'm certain there's a 3:30 in there. I raced a Sheffield Half last weekend and the conditions on my run today felt much tougher. Also did Brighton today. Due to lack of preparation and recent injury I started conservatively, but faster than planned. Today I managed to stick to a consistent pace throughout and finish faster than the pacer I originally planned to follow. To me, it is important to find the right pace I can maintain the whole race, as I don’t handle fluctuating pace so well and prefer just to go on cruise control 👍

      @@ThatRunningGuy Well, you know you already are a very fast 5k and 10k runner. HM and MA are different challenges, where especially on MA’s you learn a lot each time. As a born sprinter, you probably by instinct start out too fast. More frequent experiences with longer distances will quickly help you plan (and stick to plan) such races better. Surely, you will be able to do sub 3:15 if you up mileage and throw in some 20 milers now and then to get comfortable with distances.

      @@ThatRunningGuy That would be a shame as you are a similar pace and age to myself and you could definitely go Sub 3:15 and maybe even Sub 3:10 if you got everything right on a Marathon. That's easier said than done though (the beauty of Marathon running over the other distances is the unknown of what will happen to the body after 2 hours of running reasonably hard). I understand that it's a huge commitment to keep Marathon training going year in year out though.
      I rolled my ankle on a late LR in the Mizuno's stepping to the side of the road for an impatient driver last night.
      Hoping that I haven't messed things up for Copenhagen Marathon 🇩🇰 when I have invested a lot of money into it, have holiday and flights all booked (and some of it paid for).
