Who’s cutting onions!! Congrats on finishing your first marathon. The great thing about a marathon is finding yourself and the sense of accomplishment at the end is tremendous. Enjoy the recovery! And book your next one! Well done again.
Great video Andy.! Well done on completing the Long Run🙂 I done my *First Marathon* Brighton Marathon September 2021 and got 4hrs 21mins which included the extra distance they measured too long and stopping to talk with my wife for 3mins (rookie mistake). Was pleased to complete the Marathon but failed on my time so I signed back up within days and completed this Brighton Marathon 2022 in 3hrs 51mins🏅 completing my main goal under 4hrs. Mission completed.! All the best with your next Long Run🏃♂️🏅😎
Congratulations on doing well, Andy! You appeared in Chris Beale's "Here We Are Running" vlog on the Brighton Marathon. I am glad you had a great race.
Fantastic effort!!👏👏👏 Running a marathon is no ´walk in the park´and you have showed us that with this film. The struggle, the breathing, the fatigue but also the support from the crowd. You made it so realistic with no added effects and music. Again, congrats on your great day😊✌
The range of powerful emotions you experienced at the end took me back to my 1st (and only) marathon in 2012. Running a marathon is very difficult both physically and mentally and kudos to anyone that achieves it.
It really did take me to the extremes of what I thought was capable! Marathons are super hard, takes you to places you didn't know existed in your mind!
Well done Andy, glad you enjoyed the experience. You can't beat the crowds at the Brighton marathon, so next time have your name printed big on your vest to hear hundereds of people cheering you on. And yes marathons are tough - if they weren't everyone could run them. I followed the 3:30 pacers round and the last 3 miles were a real struggle, but I snuck in with a 3:29:53 PB.
Your emotions and words after you finished were everything. That moment when you realize all the hard weeks of training and gritting through 26.2 miles were worth it is the best feeling!! Huge congrats to you, Andy!!
Well done Andy, I was tracking you on the day and was so pleased to see you hit your sub 4:30 goal. I'm doing Chelmsford marathon in October and looking to break sub 4:30 as well!
You are a MARATHONER for sure and you did it amazingly. Huge congratulations Andy. I'm glad I managed to run a little bit of the way with you and share in the experience.
It was my first marathon too, lots of different emotions ran through me, and that last 4 miles was painful. Still recovering today, over a week later. But who cares, what a fantastic and overwhelming experience it was, especially for us first timers. Already signed up for next year and doing the York marathon in October, another 500miles of training and of course those 26.2 miles. Good luck on your 2nd marathon Andy!
Well done Andy, amazing effort! Brighton was my first one last year, the last 10k is tough there. The hills really take it out of you. I promise the next one will be a lot easier! I just did Manchester and managed to take 32 mins off my time from 3:59 to 3:27. Can highly recommend Manchester as your next one! Barely any hills, you’ll smash it in under 4 for sure!
Well done again Andy. Super run. Next marathon🤔 I'm telling you get Dublin done. You won't forget your first marathon but you'll never forget Dublin either. You'll be pushed along with the vibe from the crowd. I actually do not think there is one part of the route that does not have crowd support. Get on it if you can. If not this year next year. All the best with your running goals for the rest of the year. Stay safe👍👍
I love those pre race nerves! They let you know you care about your performance! You looked really strong across the finish, especially considering your longest training run was 18 miles! Congratulations! Well done! Keep pushing!
Amazing job. It was my first marathon too and I'd only got to 18 miles I'm my training too. Finished in 4hrs 29 mins. Experienced all the emotions you showed in this Vlog. Congrats.
yes Sir, you are a marathoner......for the rest of your life......huge congratulations for getting it done. I enjoyed the video a lot, and it broad back some memories of a day long ago, which changed my life forever
Massive well done mate!!! Brilliantly documented!!! - I was two minutes behind you, great atmosphere and very nicely organised I get teary reliving it 🥲
Absolutely brilliant Andy. I’m sure your journey will inspire many more to take on the marathon challenge. I watched both yours and Chris’s tracker on Sunday so knew you’d both had a great race. Thanks for the mention too 😀 My first marathon was in Milton Keynes in 2013, the finish was 1 lap around the inside of MK Dons stadium. Once you’ve dug that deep to finish, you’ll probably want to do it again. Super running, great video and hope you enjoy a well earned recovery 😊
Congratulations on a great run Andy. Think you described it how I felt after finishing. You go through every emotion during the race but the sense of happiness & pride in reaching your goal is immense Likewise, Brighton was my first marathon and it’ll be a day which will live with me forever. Support throughout the course was unbelievable Think a second after finishing I was like I’ll never done another marathon and then 20 minutes later which was shall I do next lol Loved following your journey and look forward to the next one. All the best
Woohoo!! Way to go Andy! You ARE a Marathoner!! I have really enjoyed your videos and watching your training. I started to follow you on Strava and Instagram as well to be sure I didn't miss any of your journey. You should 100% be very proud indeed of your accomplishment! Half marathon is my jam but in 2019, I trained for and ran the full marathon in my hometown. Even with all of that training, I had no idea I had a marathon in me until I could see that finish line! It was the most incredible thing I have ever done and all of the emotions you went through brought it all back to me. I remember when I arrived in uncharted territory (your Wilson Miles). For me it was 33K as I had trained up to 32K. I had no idea what would happen after that point, but honestly, as you have experienced for yourself, that is when the real magic of the marathon happens. I am unsure if I will run another full marathon, but I sure hope that I get to watch you do it again! Well done you! Rest up and enjoy the memories.....then make more plans!
Well done, Andy! Great video. I’m running my first marathon in October (Yorkshire). If I start to bonk, I’m going to remember your Ron Jeremy one-liner 😆
Long time viewer but always watch on my TV. Always look. Forward to your videos. Such an amazing achievement and can see how much every step meant to you. And can see your a true marathon et because you are already thinking of the next one despite the pain.... Bonking like a young Ron Jeremy 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Wow! Amazing job Andy! You completed your goal of a sub 4:30 marathon! I really enjoyed following along this series. Hope you come out with another 1 for your next big race. Enjoy this victory!!!
Nothing better than the euphoria after your first marathon. That time is amazing! I'm hoping to go under 5hrs at my next but as you said time is irrelevant! Definitely do Berlin chances to enter via the lottery are pretty good that's how I got in
Incredible achievement Andy and great pacing!! I ran Paris last weekend (my 9th) - that feeling of crossing the finish line is as strong and incomparable as ever! You're officially a runner for life, now you get to enjoy the journey!!
Congratulations on completing your first marathon Andy. Well done on a great time. You will not forget your first. I still remember my first one in Birmingham marathon the only one that they done in 2017. Again super well done
Fantastic running Andy well done 😀 Brighton was my second marathon and I have London to look forward to. I would love to run a sub 4.30 😀 Keep running 🏃♂️
Huge congratulations and thank you for leaving all your emotions, thoughts and feelings in your video... I'm doing 2024 for my first marathon and I hope I feel as good as you when I cross the line ❤🎉
Great effort mate, I totally understand how you feel as I felt the same 2 weeks ago when I ran Paris. You have the right to be proud and so you should be. The feelings are amazing 🤩
Massive congratulations Andy! Great run & great video as always. Chester marathon is really brilliant although most of it is rural so crowd support is sporadic. I pulled out of Manchester marathon last week due to a Achilles injury but Manchester is supposed to be epic with fantastic support - maybe see you next year in Manchester? Bask in the after glow of running 26.2 miles & enjoy your recovery - you have earned it!
Amazing effort Andy! Marathons do take you those dark places but at the same time they take you to amazing places! You smashed it mate! Still chuckling when you said you were bonking more than Ron Jeremy 😂
Congratulations 🎉 and very well done 👍. Thanks for reminding me how the last couple of kilometers look. I ran my first in September and my surroundings looked very similar to yours, the energetic excitement and optimism that is felt on the start line and through the first half slowly gets overshadowed by struggle and pain and sadly differently than you, I gave in and I started run/walking (like many others) to the finish line the minute I noticed I couldn't hit my goals anymore. In about two weeks I run my second and I want to take you as inspiration to not give into walking and just keep on running as slow as it may be.
Many congratulations Andy 👊🎉. You’re so right the first one is like a vivid film you can replay. Mine was London 2007 also in the sunshine ☀️. I ran “with you” yesterday finished 4:38. A word of warning…. Yesterday was my 110th marathon finish 😂. They are addictive !! I did Beachy head marathon as my second one and that is a great suggestion for you to do next ! It’s beautiful!! Well done Andy and thanks so much for the channel 🏃🏻♂️🏁👊
Well done Andy, i was in the front of you as you walked to the start with my brother he was wearing the “gibbo” vest with the yellow stripe I was in the blue! It was a tough race for sure, my Achilles ruptured around the 6 mile and both my abductors grounded to a halt by mile 10 but my dodgy back held up lol got it done though after a bit of pain, said I’d never do another one now me and my brother are talking about Manchester next year 😂😂 Keep the great videos coming and have a good week’s rest!
Well done Andy! Just starting my running journey 10 months ago, and so far even doing a half marathon seems scary, but you've inspired me to really dig deep and give it a go
Absolutely brilliant Andy 👏👏 so pleased for you. Take that in for a while and enjoy marathon man 😁🏅loved watching the journey to get there and that finish just topped it off. Well done buddy 💪👏
Well done Andy Marathon finisher! More to come next marathon when you can tweak the plan and stay in front of that 4 hour pacer until the end. Looking forward to see what comes next.
Great video and well done, I’m doing my first marathon at Brighton in April, it looks like a great crowd and the atmosphere looks electric. So pumped to do it 🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂
Fantastic Andy! I've totally loved following your marathon training journey and this video has capped it off perfectly. You made me laugh at the Ron Jeremy quote, then had me in tears at the end. can't wait to see what you do next! Well done 😁
Congratulations Andy, well earned after all your hard work. I'm at week 9 for training for the Edinburgh Marathon and I'm trying to get as much inspiration from other runners as possible. I really enjoyed this. Thank you and again, very well done to you.
Absolutely superb Andy. So so happy for you that you beat your goal time and finished well, looking forward to see your progress from here as your only going to get better once your legs recover
Well done Andy. Those last 6 miles really hurt don't they? The lift in spirits as the end is approached. You made your target as well. Good stuff, hope you recover quickly. I used to find walking downstairs agony the next day. You earned that takeaway.
Well done Andy - great job. I was about 10 or 15 minutes behind you. It was my first one also - I knew the last 10k was supposed to be tough. It was one hundred times tougher than I expected it would be. Made my eyes water.
Thanks for your journey, which I was following as I too was doing Brighton 2022 and my first. I was on the yellow wave and all going well until cramp kicked in on the last 1 mile. Had to dig soo deep to keep moving but got there thankfully and that finishing line seem to take forever.
Amazing Kieron - I'm so excited for you. The buzz of the start line, seeing the sea, feeling the support and finally crossing that finish line will be a memory you'll hold forever. Enjoy the nerves, use the adrenaline and smile!!! Best of luck to you mate 👍🏻
Well done Andy, enjoyed watching your journey to the start line and finish! Phenomenal effort well done! Next year for me on that one. Keep on running 🏃♂️
Well done Andy , I ran this as well and was keeping an eye out for you , but you had half hour on me. Loved following your journey as I done mine (was my first as well) and I'm def gonna keep watching ! Congrats 👏
Delighted to see you got in under 4.30 Andy! A great achievement given that there are some hilly sections in Brighton. Interested to hear what worked for you and what you might do a little different the next time? I've heard Chester Marathon on the 2nd October is meant to be a good one.
Well Done Andy! What a inspiration! You were And 4 Hour 22 min for your Brighton Marathon a Great achievement! I remember my first Marathon! 4 Hour 25 At London 2009 Now! Guess what? I'm Running my second Marathon where you Ran your first YES!😀 BRIGHTON MARATHON 2023 AND LOOKING FORWARD TO IT EVEN MORE AFTER WATCHING YOUR VIDEO! any Tips Andy for this course 🤔 and the day as a whole.
That's amazing James, and thank you! My advice would be don't over exert yourself in the first half as there are a few hills and lots of support. 2nd half there are big areas with no support and you can feel broken. Other than that, go have fun!
Brighton my town! I live on the nice steep hill at the start. The power station part really sucks it out of people, very tough. 9:42 is where Norman "Fatboy Slim" Cook lives, he gave me a high five at that point the year before. Good news is apparently (depending on the new owners) they have removed the industrial part of the course, making most of the route lined with people.
I'm very envious Jack, Brighton is one of my favourite places in the world ❤️ Yes I read that the power station but had been omitted, it was a struggle going up that way last year but loved coming back into Hove and to the finish. What a race, so glad It's happening again this year!
06:17 it's fascinating how fine you look here, and you wouldn't know you were struggling and hanging on if not for the lack of coherent cognition when talking to Chris. I always think about that when other UA-camrs speak to fellow runners unsolicited, which is a boundary I'm unsure should be broken precisely for the reason of lack of mental clarity. If I was dying in a race, I'd probably resent a camera in my face with a cheery enquiry into how I was doing.
Well done Andy!!!! I smiled and was reminiscing throughout that whole VLog! You did amazing !! I ran my first marathon there too (4 mins behind you) and you should definitely be so so proud!! Whens the next one ? :-)
Huge respect and congratulations! Your face went through every emotion as the race went on, was obvious how tough the final miles were but also how much strength you found to keep going. I have been really inspired by your vlogs, I DNF’d at Brighton in 2021 on my first marathon attempt (horrid day, far too hot) but did my first finish in the Thames Meander last month. I’ve booked for Brighton next year to go back and finish the job… and will draw lots of inspiration from your training and experience this year. Well done and thanks so much for sharing your experience warts and all, you are so inspiring.
Well done Andy, as a 62 year old who started running just over 4 years ago and is going to do his 6th Marathon in a few days, I have to say they are never easy but the feeling of achievement is there everytime no matter what time you do.
It’s on Andy!!! I’m running this this year, didn’t realise it was your first… can’t wait now
All the best Matty, amazing memories from Brighton for me. Have a good one mate!
Who’s cutting onions!! Congrats on finishing your first marathon. The great thing about a marathon is finding yourself and the sense of accomplishment at the end is tremendous. Enjoy the recovery! And book your next one! Well done again.

Congratulations 🎉 and very well done 👍. Thanks for reminding me how the last couple of kilometers look. It was a tough race for sure, my Achilles ruptured around the 6 mile and both my abductors grounded to a halt by mile 10 but my dodgy back held up lol got it done though after a bit of pain, said I’d never do another one now me and my brother are talking about Manchester next year 😂😂

Great video and well done, I’m doing my first marathon at Brighton in April, it looks like a great crowd and the atmosphere looks electric. So pumped to do it 🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂🏃♂
Thanks Jason! Brighton will live long in the memory for me, it was one of the best days of my life. Go and have a ball mate, I'm sure you will.❤️
Awesome running mate, I was in the hurt locker from about mile 18 as well. The crowds were amazing. Fair play to you running it with a go-pro 💪 🏃♂️
Huge congratulations, what an achievement! We could really feel your emotions at the end

Well done Andy.. absolutely brilliant mate 👍🏻
Thanks for your journey, which I was following as I too was doing Brighton 2022 and my first. I was on the yellow wave and all going well until cramp kicked in on the last 1 mile. Had to dig soo deep to keep moving but got there thankfully and that finishing line seem to take forever.
Incredible effort Andy, well done mate! And the PB’s just keep on tumbling 👍🏻🏆
Loved this, well done mate. I’ve got my first marathon this coming Sunday and it’s in Brighton. Buzzing but god am I nervous!
Amazing Kieron - I'm so excited for you. The buzz of the start line, seeing the sea, feeling the support and finally crossing that finish line will be a memory you'll hold forever. Enjoy the nerves, use the adrenaline and smile!!! Best of luck to you mate 👍🏻
very well done Andy, those last few miles are always tough no matter how well prepared you are. great video mate.
Congrats!!! 😭👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Congrats ! I was like that the week before in Manchester
Well done Andy, enjoyed watching your journey to the start line and finish! Phenomenal effort well done! Next year for me on that one. Keep on running 🏃♂️
I ran Brighton this year. What a great race it was.
Well done Andy , I ran this as well and was keeping an eye out for you , but you had half hour on me. Loved following your journey as I done mine (was my first as well) and I'm def gonna keep watching ! Congrats 👏
Ps. Loch ness marathon in October looks good! That's prob gonna be my next
waiting all weekend for this.
Legend! Well done mate
Thanks for the Tips! I should do just that. Hopefully the day itself is next April is☀️and cool.
See Andy, remember I told you that kms 32-40 is where you meet the real race. I might have started a bit slower but you got through in the end.
Well done mate 👍 u smashed it
Brighton my town!
Great job andy. Sadly I dnf’ed. felt poorly but gave it a go but pulled out 19 miles
A superb effort! When's the next one? You might want to walk down stairs backwards, this might help!
Nervous is a good thing and once when you finish race you feel so much better afterwards
Nice one James, absolutely - nerves soon turn into adrenaline and as soon as you get moving you feel great 👍🏻
@@itsonandy I did my first ever 10k race marathon stampede zoo in Colchester
I didn’t even stop at all I just keep on running
My time was 1:22:40
Well done 👏🏻
Well done Andy!!!! I smiled and was reminiscing throughout that whole VLog! You did amazing !! I ran my first marathon there too (4 mins behind you) and you should definitely be so so proud!! Whens the next one ? :-)
Thanks Lisa, well done to you! What a day, it was such a brilliant race wasn't it! Not sure what's next, got my eye on a couple of autumn ones!
Another one this year !! Wow go Andy!!! I've signed up to Manchester next year after saying never again 🤣🤣 you can totally achieve anything!!
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about Manchester too! Might see you there...
Yep see you there !!!
Well done 👏 👏
Huge respect and congratulations! Your face went through every emotion as the race went on, was obvious how tough the final miles were but also how much strength you found to keep going. I have been really inspired by your vlogs, I DNF’d at Brighton in 2021 on my first marathon attempt (horrid day, far too hot) but did my first finish in the Thames Meander last month. I’ve booked for Brighton next year to go back and finish the job… and will draw lots of inspiration from your training and experience this year. Well done and thanks so much for sharing your experience warts and all, you are so inspiring.
Well done, really pleased for you. Maybe Chester in October?
You did well, mate!!
Well done
26.2 miles is a long way.....question being, when are you doing your next one?
Btw mate is that an air b&b looks well nice
Im running a marathon next month!
Well done Andy, as a 62 year old who started running just over 4 years ago and is going to do his 6th Marathon in a few days, I have to say they are never easy but the feeling of achievement is there everytime no matter what time you do.
