What a great actress, she brought Elsa to life and made her real. I can't believe she was killed off. She would have made a great spinoff and a great storyline. ❤😊
I loved her character as well, but in a sense I agree with the way it ended, as where she died served as the focal point for what would become the Yellowstone-Dutton land empire, which makes her death more fitting.

My grandfather was just 20 in 1883, watching what they went through makes me glad im living now! When i was a kid, my dad said he could remember when HE was young, and sometimes the Natives would kill a deer, for meat, and trade it for things they needed or wanted, like blankets, other food, metal things. This was in northern Wisconsin around 1910 or so!

I'm here to tell you that a cowboy hat that doesn't fit properly is a miserable experience, I was gifted a hat for helping with wardrobe on a film and while it was a lovely thing made by Texas Hatters (which was one of the premier makers of western hats ) the damn thing never fit. To this day I remember how uncomfortable it was because I had to keep jamming it down so it wouldn't blow off which abraded my forehead I had a constant headache., so I can totally understand the impression that ill-fitting hat made on Sam Elliot.

The Ft. Worth Stockyards no longer looks like the pictures you see here. The whole historic area has now been Californicated and has been totally ruined. I was part of the last generation who grew up in the 50's and 60's that knew the stockyards for what they originally were. I feel fortunate to have been a part of that. I am also sickened by what this area has become.

This whole area is on the National Historic Register. It is not suppose to be changed. But, the city of Ft. Worth really doesn't care about its history, all they care about is greenback dollars. You can no longer park on the public streets. You are required to pay $20 to park on a lot where they tore down the historic buildings. You can't pay with cash and you can't pay with a credit card. You have to pay with your phone. The buildings have been gutted and stores selling britches with rhinestones on them and $5000 a pair western boots made in Italy . MEN wouldn't be caught dead wearing either one. They tore down some more of the historic areas to make room for $500 a night hotels and they are holding a piece of ground open so when they can get the gambling laws changed and they will as Texas continues to fall, to build a casino. I would of loved to have seen another season or more of 1883 it was fantastic & i was sad Elsa Yellow Lightning Hair died at the end . I love the Native American Indians an wish there was a spin off about them or a good new series about what they went though as well
1883 needs to continue with Elsa and Sam, and the others who survived showing where they chose to live and how they have adapted to their new discovered land.It’s a very touching yet very emotional movie but it’s not fair that Elsa and Sam didn’t have the opportunity to have a family and share with her family their love and honor 🙏❤️❤️🥲

I’m a die hard Sam Elliott fan. If he complains about something, then it’s disrespectful to ignore him. He is one of the best actors of all time. Fair enough, but Elsa's father, James Dutton was a prisoner of war, I assume from the battle of Gettysburg since we have General Meade sitting talking to James, a Confederate soldier from Tennessee, after the battle. This would be July of 1863. A little less than two years before Elsa was born. Was Mrs. Dutton fooling around?

I had the good fortune of speaking to Sam Elliott at a market of all places. Now I don’t bother actors and I have seen many over the years by chance. I am not in the business. But I did here with Elliott because I had seen him two yrs in a row. The year before in Carmel and here in Thousand Oaks, Ca. I told him all this and he was very receptive and put out his hand to shake surprising me. Before Covid. I laughed and shook his hand. Amusing moment. As I said he was very receptive and friendly.
lol, riding isnt just about the saddle. riding is a combination of how you hold yourself on a horse and the saddle. You can sit in a western saddle and still ride english. I dont recommend it. I grew up breaking horses, but the girls I dated were usually english types.@@Bronco-1776

Always think of how much history we lose when the oldies die, my grand dad born 1880 was a guy I knew in the 60’s, lived a tough life, prof boxer for a awhile and a logger businessman for most. Wanted to start over when he was 86 yrs old in new venture, banker said no way, got really drunk that night died next day in his favourite chair.
I'm with Sam. Anyone who's spent time in Montana (I got 20 years) knows it's over the top. Paradise Valley isn't that big and the last place to put an airport, city, and casino. Might work between Livingston and Billings. They make it a 5 minute ride from Helena to Bozeman.

Small correction, Meade did not remain the commander of the Union army for the remainder of the war. Due to his overly cautious leadership, he was replaced by US Grant in 1864.

It really bothers me that in the opening sequence, it shows Elsa being mortally wounded by an arrow. If that's true, what a crappy spoiler. We all love Elsa! If there is a sequel without her, look somewhere else for viewers! cause you really screwed this one up!
Well…in Yellowstone (present day) they showed a flashback in one episode with Tim McGraw’s character and 2 sons and Faith Hill. No Elsa. Soooo, made you already think what happens to her??
It was a show I looked forward to ,I liked the history of how Yellowstone started. It sure beats anything else on tv. I would have had my dish cut off by now if it wasn't for these shows. Football has become woke and political, nascar has been ruined by point systems, different rules for different drivers and the new generation car that well,sucks! So the entertainment is just about done. I'm tired of watching reruns of older shows, I know them by heart. So when Yellowstone is all over I can save some money and read books and listen to music.
When Elsa died, I felt like I had actually lost a loved one. This was more devastatingly sad than Dr Chivago or The English Patient, this was just miserable! Please, we need to see Elsa and Sam live a full life.
I watched 2 episodes of Yellowstone and packed it in. I am 65, come from a long time Western family in the Cypress Hills of southwestern Saskatchewan and have literally no interest in watching gangsters and criminals on the Great Plains. My great grandfather came west in 1875 and these sorts of people are not the sorts I have ever been around. Sure they exist, but I don't find them to be at all common like you would find them in the highly fictional Yellowstone. No thanks. Period.
@ToddSauve. I agree with you about the series Yellowstone. I lived in Montana for 25 years and knew many people in all walks of life including ranchers, cowboys,law enforcement officers ,etc. I found a lot in Yellowstone to be inauthentic.
@@jimtruscott5670 Ranchers and farmers are, in my personal experience, much more family and church oriented people, interested in providing for their families and helping their neighbours when they need it. There are cattle rustlers and ne'er do wells around but they are a very tiny minority and they know they are in for a world of trouble if they ever get caught because they are likely to catch such a beating they will completely vacate the entire area, until they finally end up in prison for some very long stretch. I just have no use for this "Yellowstone" series. 🤨

I don't have a ranching background, but I just couldn't get into "Yellowstone" for all the reasons mentioned here. Too over-the-top in most ways, and the modern-day Duttons seem too much like gangsters. It's a pity, because I do like some of the cast members (Gil Birmingham, for one). I liked the series OK but it was not great and I think it finished fine. If I had been Sam Elliott, I would have gone to the costumer on set and demanded a hat that fit before I filmed one frame.

I'm guessing their ship docked in Texas, not New York. Even if they came to the East Coast, they would have to find a passenger ship to get them through the Great Lakes which would be frozen several months and I don't know where they are going to find a train to California. There weren't that many in the 1800s. If they could do all that I would imagine the cost would too much. Hell idk, they might have taken a train to Texas.

Fabulous acting and terribly written movie. The original series Yellowstone was incredible. This was the worst movie this century. There is no chance we'll ever watch another Sheridan movie.

Montana was NOT the original destination. The Duttons settled in Montana so that Elsas mom could see her until she died, the mom that is.
The Duttons had planned to settle in Oregon, but when Elsa died in Montana, her parents wanted to settle where her grave was.
They settled in Montana so she could visit her grave every day. She didn't see her die.

Elsa did NOT ride her horse in "English style" ..... It's more likely that the person who first said that didn't know much about riding horses.

I never noticed about Sam Elliott's hat, but of course he could feel whether it fit right. Sam Elliott was the only reason I gave 1883 a try, since I've never watched Yellowstone and wasn't familiar with anyone else in the cast, but I must say the whole cast impressed me very well. Great series!

Always think of how much history we lose when the oldies die, my grand dad born 1880 was a guy I knew in the 60’s, lived a tough life, prof boxer for a awhile and a logger businessman for most. Wanted to start over when he was 86 yrs old in new venture, banker said no way, got really drunk that night died next day in his favourite chair.
I'm with Sam. Anyone who's spent time in Montana (I got 20 years) knows it's over the top. Paradise Valley isn't that big and the last place to put an airport, city, and casino. Might work between Livingston and Billings. They make it a 5 minute ride from Helena to Bozeman.
I agree with Sam Elliott, the only reason I watched any of Yellowstone was because of 1883. But I stopped watching it after several episodes because it seem too much like Dallas to me also.
I am native blood and I skip most of the scenes with kayces wife. The only woman I don't skip is Beth.

It really bothers me that in the opening sequence, it shows Elsa being mortally wounded by an arrow. If that's true, what a crappy spoiler. We all love Elsa! If there is a sequel without her, look somewhere else for viewers! cause you really screwed this one up!

It was a show I looked forward to ,I liked the history of how Yellowstone started. It sure beats anything else on tv. I would have had my dish cut off by now if it wasn't for these shows. Football has become woke and political, nascar has been ruined by point systems, different rules for different drivers and the new generation car that well,sucks! So the entertainment is just about done. I'm tired of watching reruns of older shows, I know them by heart. So when Yellowstone is all over I can save some money and read books and listen to music.
When Elsa died, I felt like I had actually lost a loved one. This was more devastatingly sad than Dr Chivago or The English Patient, this was just miserable! Please, we need to see Elsa and Sam live a full life.

I watched 2 episodes of Yellowstone and packed it in. I am 65, come from a long time Western family in the Cypress Hills of southwestern Saskatchewan and have literally no interest in watching gangsters and criminals on the Great Plains. My great grandfather came west in 1875 and these sorts of people are not the sorts I have ever been around. Sure they exist, but I don't find them to be at all common like you would find them in the highly fictional Yellowstone. No thanks. Period.
@ToddSauve. I agree with you about the series Yellowstone. I lived in Montana for 25 years and knew many people in all walks of life including ranchers, cowboys,law enforcement officers ,etc. I found a lot in Yellowstone to be inauthentic.
@@jimtruscott5670 Ranchers and farmers are, in my personal experience, much more family and church oriented people, interested in providing for their families and helping their neighbours when they need it. There are cattle rustlers and ne'er do wells around but they are a very tiny minority and they know they are in for a world of trouble if they ever get caught because they are likely to catch such a beating they will completely vacate the entire area, until they finally end up in prison for some very long stretch. I just have no use for this "Yellowstone" series. 🤨

I don't have a ranching background, but I just couldn't get into "Yellowstone" for all the reasons mentioned here. Too over-the-top in most ways, and the modern-day Duttons seem too much like gangsters. It's a pity, because I do like some of the cast members (Gil Birmingham, for one). I wouldn't have watched "1883" had Sam Elliott not been one of the leads. I've been a fan of his for 50 years, so I gave "1883" a try and was rewarded. I'm still not interested in "Yellowstone." Watched "1923" once, but am ambivalent.
My wife watches Yellowstone so Ive seen several episodes I called it a cross breed spaghetti westerns and the Godfather trilogy
Sam Elliott is an Icon and a national treasure in my opinion. His voice can stand by itself alone....just like James Earl Jones's and Morgan Freeman's.
The ending was heart breaking & sad but it very realistic.

Sam Elliott made his statement about the hat not fitting properly! An Sheridan says he’ll take care of the problem!! But he doesn’t!! Sam has been a great and magnificent actor a lot longer than Sheridan has been around. He’s needs to show respect to the actors and what they need to wear in movie! I liked the series OK but it was not great and I think it finished fine. If I had been Sam Elliott, I would have gone to the costumer on set and demanded a hat that fit before I filmed one frame.

Strainge skript writer, why would German immagrents sail to Texas to make a journey up too the NorthWest when you could take ship too the great lakes and train straight West. Nothing logical about the whole 1883 show.
I'm guessing their ship docked in Texas, not New York. Even if they came to the East Coast, they would have to find a passenger ship to get them through the Great Lakes which would be frozen several months and I don't know where they are going to find a train to California. There weren't that many in the 1800s. If they could do all that I would imagine the cost would too much. Hell idk, they might have taken a train to Texas.
