Now this is a video recipe that might go viral!
It could go either way... With the shenanigans this particular platform is pulling on certain gun-themed channels, it's also a bit risky!
Didnt go in the past so i doubt it will now. There already was company producing small batch of these with similar idea, just full metal, though brass is nice touch. I have few empty casings so i might do couple on those since i really want one now.. tough smell of skin grease/acid on brass smells pretty horrid so might need to polish it and the apply like 100% bees wax or lacquer.
Not going to lie, I would have a mini-heart attack if I saw you from across the shop giving that a good whack with a hammer 😂
Very entertaining build!
That has to be the coolest punch I've ever seen!!! I'm never going to be able to look at a bullet the same after seeing this 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍👍
Tim, I appreciate your willingness to share your failures as well as successes. Mark of a good man and shows the confidence that you have in your abilities and who you are. Great example to my boys.
You had my curiosity, but now you have my attention.
You me at ‘hello’ 😂
Fantastic project! Really great outcome and loved the heat lines on the tip. Interestingly you even nailed the shape of the bullet, shaped like a Frangible projectile (compressed copper powder that disintegrates on impact). Really great work!!
Man you should have way more subs then you do. Your vids have always been good. I hope you channel grows buddy.
Loved this build and the problem solving along the way! Turniung brass on the lathe always look 10/10
Brass is soooo beautiful when machined 👌
I think the heat bands really make it pop, I vote keep them!
Man, as if I need another project. This is cool. I am a gunsmith in the PNW ( seattle). love the 50BMG theme to your punch!
Another beautiful creation man! This is so great and I’m glad you showed the “screw up” … like you said it’s all a learning experience!
Since you asked...
You have a good imagination and the skills to bring your ideas to life, I like it.
cI am now picturing an entire set of different calibers. They could even have Green, black, and silver tips. Well done!
Love the punch Tim! Great job sir and it sure does look intimidating all right
That's cool, great to see mistakes being sown on videos and not just perfection every time 👍 I was expecting you to cut to an explosion on the second test hit at the end 😬 💥💥💥
Thanks for sharing yet another great video, Tim!! Awesome!! What a cool process! Love the finished product, and I WANT ONE!!! ;) Best regards from Norway!!
Tim this is so rad! Every time you get a visitor to the shop you should pull that out and whack it! Grab it on video if you can! Amazing. ✊🏻🇨🇦
Love both attempts. On the first one, could you drill say a 1/4" hole about 2" deep in the front "bullet" and insert a piece of s7 tool steel to fix it?
And maybe use liquid nitrogen for the press fit
What a great idea. Never seen anybody else do that before. That punch came out awesome looking. Really nice job👍🙂
Very cool! I have an affection for .50 BMG
U should sell it!
Make more of them!
Surely going to buy one if that will become a thing.
I would buy one if you made them available.
Woah, this is an epic idea!
You should forge a really cool chuck "tightener" tool! I saw that you used the adjustable hammer =)
it's really cool seeing the mistakes, one thing I was thinking to salvage it would of been to cut the tip, bore a hole and then insert some of the hard toolsteel with a heat fit in the tip.
Some .50 rounds have explosive tips (black tips) and so could of looked pretty cool.
I’m so proud of you! Great job! Done right!
Only thing missing was adding your maker's mark. Well done!
WOW! What an awesome center punch!!!
I have never seen a person forging cable before. That is a new one on me in my 66 years. You could turn the whole thing out of the tool steel and then just plate the fifty caliber machine-gun shell area with bronze.
That's a pretty cool centerpunch Tim!
This is just awesome. Can't wait to see more videos soon Timothy. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge On. Weld On. Keep Making. Keep forge lit. God Bless.
Very cool idea! Nicely done Tim
Love it Tim... and happy I was finally able to order two candle holders!!!!!!
Outstanding work !
You should polish up the tip, then dip into some copper sulfate, should give it a copper tone.
So cool
Shop is looking good too great seeing older tools still performing
My grampa was a tool and die maker thru the 50's & 60's
What a beauty!
Great thanks
Awesome per usual!!
“Parting on the tip.”
Same dude!
Wow! One of your best ideas yet!
That was an awsome build!
I love your honesty
Nice job as always, Tim! Next time you’re doing cable, (or pipe even) try using a V swage instead of a half round. Helps keep it tight.
Forge on, brother
I love it!! Amazing work
That is so cool man, would love to have one of those. Great work as always!
I love the heat blueing!
VERY Cool Idea!!!
GREAT Looking!!
Very neat idea!
That’s freaking awesome Tim
I look forward to your videos, you have some very creative and fun content. keep up the good work! I really appreciate that you show the mistakes.
Looks awesome! I guess if you need a larger one, you could always make one in 20mm anti tank.😂
I think you could sell the heck out of those! Alot of work goes in to that!
i love the look of your videos! and this punch.
Awesome project! The color bands really help it look like lead!
That is sick! Great job brudder
Love it! So cool!
Wow that is a really good cool idea if you make some for sell on your site I will definitely buy one.
Great idea 💡 👍 new projects = new problems.
I need it! So cool!
Freaking Sweet!! Very cool bro 👍
TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!💸💸💸 I use a center punch almost every single day and this by far has to be one of the coolest ones I have ever seen. Any way to commission one to be built? Or are you gonna build more to put up for sale on your site?
I glad you showed the mistake. I see videos of people using every thing to make tools, knifes, hammers out of while this looks cool for you tube all steel has it's own property's and rite uses. No matter how much hammering, heating , adding carbon you can not turn a grade 5 bolt into high end tool steel.
if you ever try this again you could try using steel for the casing too but bronzing it before you put it together
That is awesome!
I need one of those!
Sir, I love your work and your videos. Thank you for making them!
Idea for you Tim in how you might save the first try ... you could drill the center down a ways, then put some of your S7 (I think you called it) and make it an armor piercing round. The center would be the hard stuff and the steel surronding it would still be tough enough to keep it in place and stand up to the rest of the punishment. Just a thought.
Hi
I'm a retired tradesman & Would like to let you into the method of grinding at the Centre points tip that I was taught as an apprentice 55 years ago & that is the Rather than grind the point radially, we were taught to grind the tip longitudinally.
So great!!
THATS FRIKKIN COOL MAN!!!
Supercool
I would definitely buy one
Now Ive gotta go out and make one. Geeze thanks Tim🤣.
Is that how you’ve always heat treated s7? Ive always quenched is with compressed air. Or oil quenched it in parks AAA for thicker cross sections.
Haha, I totally would have made the same mistake, but good to know using something made for extreme tension in an extreme compression use case isn’t easy :D
I would buy one of those!
Looks sick
What you can do with the first one is cut the tip flat and bore a quarter inch hole about one inch into it and press a peace of hardened steel inside the tip and grind it to a point. Just use the same technique as you did with the bronze, heat the tip to expand it and make the hardend insert about 1 to 1.5 thousands over and freeze it and the press it in.
You could save the first one by drilling out the tip and implanting tool steel.
Cool, looks like a 50 caliber round.
I can imagine the damage this would do to the rifle firing pin if it was ever trialed. :)
Leave it! Man that looks nice.
That is stupid cool man. And yes I use a punch often.
Heirloom build for sure.
Good stuff.
You had to try with the Wire Rope, just a shame that it didn't work out.
Still it gave you more knowledge for making the vastly more improved Mk 2. That thing is a Weapon.
Man, I wanna buy one!
That is cool!
now this is something I see selling like crazy if it can be mass produced
You could carve in something that looks like a primer on the striking side!
Ooh Tim, I have an axe and now I want one of those punches! :)
I want one! Just hope wife doesn't confuse it with a live 50 cal round!
You can definitely sell them bad boys on the regular!
You should totally produce and sell these
Awesome!
Very nice
I'll buy the scrapped one!!
The irony is, I have a real BMG .50 caliber center punch. The armor piercing projectile is nothing more than a copper jacketed pointed and hardened steel penetrator, and i have one (penetrator) from a fired round.
That's a damm sexy center punch
For such a (wonderful) tool a small interference fit (like 0,03 mm) would be sufficient. It only should stay on. No forces involved when striking the steel end. It's only a cosmetic layer. Thank you! Best, Job
Nailed it
I would take the first one for wood it would work great. I don't work with metal much.
