Me too! I still find maps/atlases fascinating. (Esp. old ones). Of course that helped me get grades in geography, I might not know much, But I do know where it is!
18% grade? Sure, I can take that with my pickup and 27' trailer. They forgot to add that mapmaking companies will often add in a few "extras" that don't exist on the ground, so that anyone copying the map for resale will break the copyright.
Now it's all done using satellite technology, also known as G.P.S. on our phones to show you exactly where you are and how to find out what road I should now take.😊
It very easy to find the first roads to the city. Most roads start by the water, line. Then look for the rail roads, and grade yards. These roads can cross states.
I think it was one of those short films that movie theaters used to show in between movies. They'd either show a comedy short, a cartoon, a news reel, or something like this.
This was very interesting! As a kid I loved just studying maps for fun. Thank you

When I was a US Army Military Police Officer, before GPS, Land Navigation was one of our specialties. I respect the heck out of a topographical map!

Was this part of a TV show?

TV wasn't quite there in 1940, so the movie short is correct.
