    I bought this lens around a year ago and have found it to be outstanding. On my A7R4 it produces images of exceptional detail, colour and contrast with negligible distortion. If you can afford this lens, and are looking for an ultra wide, get it! It's that simple.

      I'll second this. It's the first lens I bought before it was available in stores, and I have zero regrets. Get the rear filter kit if you don't have it already, works amazingly well.

      Third aye, the motion is carried. I use it a lot for video (FX3), but recently picked up a used 7r4 and have found it to pair pretty well with the 14.

    I think for this kind of lens, it's a bad idea to test picture quality on a flat board, as they are made for landscape, when I take far landscape I have way better results of what's shown on the flat board, especially because you have to be very close from the subject to get this board at full screen and the sides are just a bit less close than the center, creating a slightly softer looking image.
    You can't notice that softness on a landscape, the lens is crisp and sharp. but as always, nice review and I understand that all the lenses have to pass the same setup for your database to remain what it is, amazing work and consistency there Christopher!

      Are you saying the lens has field curvature?

    • @pizzablender
      @pizzablender 2 роки тому +3

      @@Bayonet1809 Actually, lenses that are sharp corner-to-corner at infinity may have field curvature or plainly less sharp corners when focusing more closely.

    • @Bayonet1809
      @Bayonet1809 2 роки тому

      @@pizzablender I know, that is why my question was regarding which phenomenon was occurring, field curvature, or just differences in sharpness at focal distances, as both were alluded to by the OP, but they were unspecific.

    • @nikolai_art
      @nikolai_art 2 роки тому +2

      @@Bayonet1809 it does have field curvature yes. To be expected for such a construction. Its not really optimised for super close flat field shots. Thats why all of the reviews, like this one here, or on the lens tip blog, are missing the point a bit when they say its not super sharp in the corners. Take an astro shot, and you'll get excellent results over the full frame. Also extremely good coma performance. Coupled with f1.8 its a dream for astro, and very sharp wide open already there. Its also an amazing lens for architecture and cityscape, because it has the lowest distortion I've ever seen on a sub 18mm lens.

    I got this optic for my Nikon Z (using and adapter, of course). It's a great wide angle lens and works great adapted with autofocus and all. I'm just nervous about the wobbly internals when the lens is not powered-up, I'm guessing it uses some sort of electromagnetics to keep things steady when it's on. I just make sure to handle it still and in the same position until it's mounted and on.

    • @kaminobatto
      @kaminobatto 2 роки тому

      @@markusschlevogt I use the Megadap ETZ11. I use it on a Z fc body; however, I do own a Z7II and Z50 as well but haven't tried it on either so far. That said, I have no reason to believe it would perform worse on either body. The autofocus works fine for me on the Z fc and, to be honest, if I didn't know I was using an adapted lens, I wouldn't have been able to tell that I was not using a native Z lens. It might be worthwhile mentioning that I mostly shoot landscape photography with static subjects using the 14mm GM lens, so I cannot tell how it might perform in more demanding situations. Another thing is that I also have an older A-mount lens and I used the ETZ11 stacked with another Sony A-mount to E-mount adapter but the lens' AF didn't work at all, though at least EXIF data was being communicated to the body.
