He was paraphrasing a biblical words. We don't have the kind of leadership China has. India was way ahead of China in the 50s and 60s, what has happened to India?

China DeepSeek should work in collaboration with Huawei servers as a total package helping any countries to setup its own AI. This will help them mitigate western attempt to monetized and monopolized AI as a sanction weapon.

Glad to see discussions outside of main stream circles. By design, the U.S creates an advantage by stifling the involvement and development of technology by others. These monopoly business have gained an edge with the help of governmental departments to mine the data to train their AI. Social engineering mined probably 90% of the data and the other 10% through health/employment and financial records. A Bad Faith Start!!!
Africa has many of the material resources that make technology available and I think countries like China, Africa have a genuine desire to utilize the technology for advancement. The world is too BIG for one country to bully other nations and act as the overlord.The day the world breaks free will be a day of tremendous gratitude and excitement.
The current learning models in are primarily eurocentric-based and in many cases will warn the content discussing racial issues are sensitive or may cause disparities.

Awesome. I think rashida was a bit mixed up re reinforcement learning. LLMs use this in training, but most modern models like GPTs etc have alot of "Supervised Fine Tuning" on top of this (SFT), which involves human answers instead of just human problems put forward by RL.
Also most modern models use an MOE architecture (master of experts) made up of a group of smaller expert models.
I'm really excited about the breakthroughs and disruptions AI has brought, but I find it hard to ignore the concerns many public speakers raise about job displacement. The reality is that AI has already started replacing certain jobs. That said, I do wonder how AI can be truly impactful in Africa, especially considering the challenges we still face with things like electricity and internet access. However, I do believe AI has the potential to make learning and information more accessible, among other benefits.
It's not the AI that will replace workers per se. But those who learn how to work with AI will definitely replace those who don't and very soon.

While the AI of US big techs is only available to the well endowed startups, deepseek is free or low cost for the rest of the world to use to leverage on AI. China again levels the AI terrains for AI startups to commercialise their services.

"Sell ourselves so cheap" by using deepseek? Deepseek is as good as the best if not better. Its affordability makes AI available to startups. By all mean get more expensive ones but ensure that the quality is at least as good as that of deepseek!
I meant that investors will try to valuate African AI businesses at a lower valuation due to the fact they'll believe that you can do more with less initial investment.
Neglecting the fact that DeepSeek is the side project of a multi billion dollar Quant fund. That had already invested heavily into its architecture before this $5 million dollar final training.

Why would any startup want to start from scratch like deepseek or any other AI startup? You build upon others! You use the AI open source model (previously closed or proprietary by big techs) and commercialise your applications without paying huge fees to big techs.
Valuation is not based on how much you put in for your capital expenses but for the potential to generate profits.
