    Very well made video dude, touch of grease on crush washers helps, rubber coated dead blow mallet will protect your fancy pancy FOX seal drivers and it wont mark your brace should you hit it. Also, I take off the garter springs of the wipers and slide them up the stanchions helps when installing lowers, just sayin' . Keep it up 👍🏼

      great tips. sorry for the delay. bike mechanic life! I would add that if you do use a little grease to the bottom of the crush washer to keep it in place, it may change your torque values. For anyone not experienced in how the foot-nuts seat, be aware of this. It may be worth observing the crush washer as it compresses. You don't want to shear off that part of your damper or air spring shafts. Anyway, thanks for your comments, these videos are a pain to make!

    Thanks for the video! Im looking to increase the travel from 160 to 170 in a fox36.

    question.... I have a 34 rhythm 2017 of 100mm and I want to change it to how it was before (150mm) I want to buy the air shaft but I want to know if it would fit the air shaft of 2019 34 float of 150mm

      Great question Diego. It might be worth a phone call to Fox. Give them the "Tune ID" or serial number. They'll give you the details. Some air-springs will be interchangeable but you'll need to get the spec from them. It will probably work, but call them to be sure. Or you can go here: www.ridefox.com/fox17/help.php?m=bike&ref=topnav and enter the "tune ID" in the "4 digit code" box and see if the part numbers match up for you. Hope that helps!

    So you changed the travel by replacing the air shaft but....nothing is required in the dappertutto side? I mean, the cartridge is self adjustjng to the reduced/increased travel? I canto get an idea about that...

      yes, The damper stroke on these accommodates up to 180mm of travel, and basically down to about 120mm, I believe. They used to have a bottom-out valve but not sure about that anymore. So that would matter only in the last 10mm of the stroke. The damper really doesn't create a ton of pressure. The Grip series damper purges any additional pressure which is why it's so much better than the FIT dampers. If you want to do it right, and have a FIT damper, it would be good to bleed off some oil by setting the new stroke length and even subtracting 20mm of stroke before capping it off. For example, if you set the for to 120 travel, bleed the damper to 100mm travel. Once capped, extend to the 120mm mark and you won't have the excessive build up of bladder pressure.

    Can I use motorex 10wt instead ?

    • @insightbike
      @insightbike  3 роки тому +3

      probably. I think several shops do that. Open bath oil just needs to be oil in most cases. However, on your damper side, if you have the FOX Grip or Grip2 you have to use the same oil that is in the damper. The 40cc of PTFE oil in the open bath actually gets cycled into the damper. I would recommend using the same oil that is in the damper in that case.

      @@insightbike I have grip2 it's 2021 model fox36. I'm in UK so lower viscosity like 10w I thought it would be better.
      Damper side I'm definitely sticking to fox PTFE because as you said it's ssucked into damper.
      I find motorex oil better over stock oils. I also have lyrik ultimate and it work smoother with motorex 5w oil

      Right on man. Next summer I will be tinkering with different oils in the Grip damper. While the PTFE oil is great for the machine, it's super toxic. I would also like a lower viscosity oil in there anyway. Very cool man, Motorex is great oil.

      @@insightbike have you tried a replacement for the fox oil ? Motorex 2.5wt ?

      @@fspeshalxo69 I should try that. Seems like a great option. Thank you.

    Hi, I have a 2022 Fox Performance 34 130mm fork and would like to reduce travel to 110mm so what part do I need?

    • @insightbike
      @insightbike  2 роки тому +1

      Hey! what I would do here is visit the Ridefox.com website and click "BIKE". From there find the tech help tab and then insert the 4-digit alphanumeric code from the fork lower (right below the dust wiper on the back, normally). That's the Tune ID.
      This will give you the exact specs you need to look for. I've been able to source the parts from there from places like WorldWideCyclery.com or JensonUSA. I hope you find the right part.
