*"He said 'no lathe,' but then used a CNC router!"* Correct. I also used a drill guide and a horizontal bandsaw. I made something that would traditionally be done with a metal lathe, but found a way to do it using the tools I have, which happen to include an X-Carve.
This was never meant to be a "how-to," but if you're looking to make something similar, you can:
A. Make the bolt head manually using a drill and some files, or maybe some metal-engraving chisels. It would just take longer.
B. Cut the head off an existing bolt. It would just be heavier.
The point is to find a way to make what you want to make, using what you have. There is always another way.
Good luck!
Did I see you use a wood lathe for sanding the head of the bolt!!!! Lol great video new subscriber
I was going to suggest B as a shorter path to the same place, but I understand that it's about the journey, not just the destination.
I saw the 100K plaque reveal on your Instagram. It's well-deserved, as are any future awards that come as your subscriber count grows. Not only do you have videos with some of the highest quality production values, the projects you build in those videos are top shelf, super high quality builds. There is an elite class of DIY/maker folk that showcase on UA-cam, and you are definitely in that class. Congrats!
I now want to see the two hour video of you trying to get that twenty back out of the bolt.
That’s what the two matches are for.
you can stick a small piece of paper clip or wire around it like they provide for you in the pill style cash fobs eg true utility. it both helps you wrap the bill tight, but all you have to do to get it out is pull up on the top of the tab.
My thoughts!
Next time Wesley goes on a date: Is that a big ol bolt in your pocket, are are you just happy to see me?
It's a bolt because I'm * Wesley waggles eyebrows * lactose intolerant.
You made this far because you make very cool stuff. ✌🏻
Hell yes, 100K -- I was around for 10K, and I'll be around for 1 Million! Keep kicking ass!
I recently retooled my workshop and sold off the benchtop drill press since it took up quite a bit of precious space. I decided I'd replace it with the Rockler drill guide + vise and the more reviews I watch about it, the more confident I am that I made the right decision. Also, awesome project, love your channel!
"I'm lactose intolerant!" If only I could be as unashamed as you lol
Yaaaas, Wesley! Well done on the milestone - here’s to many, many more! Thank you both for sharing your brilliant projects with the masses and for sharing your brilliant and quirky personality. You always brighten my day!
I did that once and now there's a $100. bill in a friend's truck (that stopped at my shop for a quick repair) somewhere in Kansas.
Wesley - wonderful as always to see your projects, and the gentle sense of humor you infuse them with. Thanks, and congratulations!
That is a super cool project!! The 100k mark is awesome too!!! Congratulations Wesley, you deserve it and at least another digit as well. Thanks for all the great videos that got you this far and I cant wait to see what follows. Cheers!!
Thanks!
Very cool idea and the how to make it was great. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and videos Rodney
That's amazing. Very detailed.
Have loved this channel since I first stumbled upon it, back when you were still acid etching circuit boards and so on. Keep up the great work! I am always happy when I see a new WT Video!!
Congrats!!! Love your videos, they're so inspiring.
Interesting project; thanks for posting. Thumbs up.

Congratulations dude, been following you for a while. Some of my favorite videos on UA-cam.
Great practical use case of that Rockler drill guide Wes. A+ ! 👍🏼🍻
I love seeing the additional uses for a CNC.
Amazing as usual!!
Love it! Nice build
Nice build. It also can be used as a creative hide container in geocaching.
That was really cool!
Thanks, man! I find thread-making oddly satisfying.
Thread cutting sometimes can be like a suspense film. “Well I started this with out cutting fluid...maybe I’ll finish this or maybe the tap will break in the next quarter turn...”
Your videos are great, thanks.
Congrats on 100k subs!!! Great work, as always!
Excelente trabajo saludos desde Argentina
From one Wes to another great job !
Congratulations on the 100K! Another fun project. Thanks!!

I wish there were comment money. Baiting trolls would make for easy cash. 💵 💵
Wesley The Grey, when you hit 1,000,000 subs you'll upgrade to Wesley The White.
You really should compliment your beard with a suitable staff.
Imagine the things you could hide in a staff!
Great video, love the work that went into this.
Probably a bad time to mention I do this with an empty chapstick container.
Very interesting. I like it’s made light weight.
🤩 Amazing & Congrats you deserve a lot more 🎉
Congratulations Wesley. You more than deserve that plaque! Keep on making, I for one will keep on watching!! I’m certain there are 99,999 others and then some who agree!

Great presentation and production value. The “no lathe” title hooked me, but I don’t have one of those fancy CNC mini mills. Just found your channel and will be following along. Great job! -Ed
Congratulations on the 100k! A great milestone to be sure.
That's the first time in about 40 years that I have thought about Gigglesnort Hotel. I had to look up clips on youtube. Thanks.

Awesome! Congratulations Wesley I always enjoy your videos/builds, I'm always checking your channel to make sure youtube isnt hiding your videos from me 😃. Thank you for making cool content for us.
Nice bolt. Kind of heavy key chain.

Being hollow aluminum, it's disorienting how light it is when you pick it up.
Whooh!! Congratulations on the 100k :)
Pretty cool video and idea

OMG, A Gigglesnort Hotel reference! That's a deep pull!
Such a sneaky way to store things in your pocket. the most interesting thing I found in an old tool box was a collection of cotter bolts.
Fun project !
Awesome video.. congrats on subscribers 👍🏼
Awesome video 👍!
Congrats on the 100k .. you deserve it.. I see some people on youtube that have a large following that make me shake my head in disgust. But your videos have always been great.
Dude, you're nuts! Also bolts! Very cool and turned out very real-looking. Have to admit, I'm a bit late to the show, having only watched you for maybe a year, but I always enjoy what you make and your jocular personality. Congrats on 100K and thanks for sharing!
I was expecting a cut shot at the end where you also stuffed something really long into the bolt! 🤣 great video!
Very cool little safe, well done on the 100k ! 👍👍
That's a darned cool tiny safe! I always love a good non-lathe project.
Thanks! Although, I'm really wanting a lathe now.
Cool! I'd like to have one but not worth buying the tools to make it. Good job!!!
