Overheating Issues with our 2015 Jeep Wrangler

  • On our tip to Colorado from Texas, our 2015 jeep developed an over temp issue. This is a short video depicting some of the issues. The coolant never boiled over into the overflow partly due to stopping near the 260deg mark and letting things cool down before pressing onward. Most of the highway driving was done with no AC and the windows down.
    YES IT WAS HOT! outside temps running 95 to 105.

    Mine started doing the same exact thing! I’ve been the owner since new, and I noticed that the temperature gauge was getting up to the 3/4 mark. And the temperature from 220s up to almost 250! And the cooling fan at full blast trying to keep the engine cool! Now I off-road my Jeep every other day on the mountains here in Tucson Arizona, Mt. Lemmon to be exact. And never had an issue with the cooling system, it never really overheated! But it was time for me to take it to the dealer for an evaluation, being so hot in the summer here in Tucson with temperatures in the 90-100 degrees! I wasn’t going to chance it! So when the dealer did a check up and diagnoses, they told me I had a bad radiator, and thermostat. So I told them to replace what it needed to get rid of the issues with overheating! Now it’s fixed and my gage is staying where it should be, in the middle. Sometimes depending on the elevation or steep hills it might move a little over the half point, but it gets back down when the fan kicks on. Now I get readings of 200-220 up to sometimes 230, again! Depending on the elevations and steep hills. So the following week after getting the radiator replaced I went back to the dealer, and asked for the technician to see if it was normal for my temperature to get up to 230s and they said it was completely normal. This pentastar engines run a little hotter than other engines. Now I’ve been driving around for about two weeks and a half and is still running fine even though the temperatures gets up to 235 sometimes but it cool right back down fast when the fan kicks! No overheating, and no issues with coolant overflowing. Noting! Hope yours has been fixed by now!😎👍and thanks for sharing your experience!

    Thank you for the info, last December headed to Big Bend my 2016 Jk started heating up. I could not find a Mopar thermostat no wherein west Tx so I was forced to install a AutoZone product. I added new antifreeze finished my trip to Big Bend and back to San Antonio with no issues. Here we are on the 13 of July and I had the same issue on incline hills or when it kicked in overdrive the temperature gauge followed it up and when I shut off the air conditioner it went back to normal operating temperature. I do have a AluCab roof top tent and it was 108 degrees.
    🤷🏻‍♂️

      Thermostat seems to be the issue. Get oem if you can. Had mine replaced about 4 times now. Had my system burped a couple times too and radiator flush, and cap.

  • @C_Masi

    In jeeps this is a thermostat issue typically

    • @runawaywithhandk
      @runawaywithhandk  6 місяців тому +1

      You are correct. I had the system flushed and they replaced the thermostat due to a cracked housing before the trip where I had the overheat issues. Turns out the thermostat was aftermarket and my jeep mech. said anything other than Mopar is not trustworthy. Replacing the thermostat again and the bad fan probably would have fixed it, but since I pulled a trailer, I opted for a larger HD radiator.

    hello, I hope you figured out the issue. What is the normal range of the coolant temp when operate on the interstate or city driving? I need to take a look at mine. Thanks

    • @runawaywithhandk
      @runawaywithhandk  Рік тому +1

      I do believe I have resolved the overheat issue.
      I am finding that my temps vary between 215 and 247. The lower temps are under light loads and the highest temps are on steep grades. We just returned from an 1100 mile weekend trip. Pulling our off road trailer on hilly back roads to Arkansas I ranged from 225 to 247. Returning back to Houston on the interstate pulling the trailer at 65 mph my temps ran from 220 to high 230's. I believe mine may be a bit higher than normal due to my gearing and possibly tire size. My buddy in his 2017 stock 2 door jeep ran most of the times 6 or so below me and at times he was 5 or so above me.

    Having a similar problem. I have a 2015 2D manual sport. The faster I go, the hotter it gets. Currently on a 24hr road trip from Canada to Phoenix. The further we go the hotter it gets as well as the slower it gets.. only getting to 45mph on hills where usually could be going 65 maybe 70. What are your thoughts?

    • @runawaywithhandk
      @runawaywithhandk  Рік тому +1

      I am not a mechanic, but through some research and what the mechanic found on mine, first suspect would be the thermostat, then the fan or possibly air in the system usually trapped in the heater core.

      @@runawaywithhandk Thanks for the response. I am going to try and burp the coolant system in the morning to try and get the air out. If that’s not a fix for the problem I might have to look into thermostat, fan, and maybe the radiator itself

      I also replaced my whole cooling system and I put a new belt and I also hit up to 231 then she drops but my temperature gauge hits the quarter mark barely , i just feel like something is off, idk 😅

      Did you purge the air out after ??

      My 17-JK , wants to get Hot on long & hard uphills , but drops back to normal less than 2 minutes literally hits 230 but stays 3 lines away from the quarter mark then goes back down to like 210, so as long as it doesn't pass the quarter mark but has high temps tells me I have air trapped in the system still... I had just replaced my hoses a few weeks after replacing the hole cooling system I should have done it when I replaced everything all at once but now I have to do a purge again.... I did purge my system but I did find out I had a oil cooling housing leak but replaced it with the aluminum steel one instead of the plastic one that comes with it, also I found out that I'm supposed to bleed the thermostat while the cars on idle but it's hard without the right tool since the air intake is in the way. I bled my thermostat before I turned it on & all but I feel like I have air in the system I just need to be more confident gonna try another method of opening & closing the bleeding screw while the car runs a little that way I can get all that air out the system.
