I cried along with you during this video! I don’t even know you! He was a great strength and love to you! I too an alone thinking about van life getting out there! I still have my dad he is 86! So Im waiting because he needs me still! Anyway, he’s not too keen that I’m going out on my own! So my focus is on him right now! My husband left me after 30 years of marriage to have a relationship with a 20-year-old man! I don’t know very strange after Covid everything changed! We have a daughter who doesn’t live with me. She lives with her fiancé. She’s going to be 29 this year.!
Right now you’re not strong, but you have a power within you that you’ll make it! So I’ve subscribed to your channel as your journey goes down the road! I’ll be there cheering you on maybe one day when I get my van we can meet up somewhere! That would be nice over a cup of coffee and a danish! But until then be strong friend you got a lot of people here backing you! Masha In Welland ONT Canada

I'm so sorry. I lost my wife two years ago. We traveled in our Casita and visited many of the places in your video. She was my rock, I am traveling alone, not quite alone as I have my pooch with me and she is a good listener and a steady companion. I'm figuring out how to carry the grief. The grief and loneliness reminds me of the love we had so i don't want it to go away. I do feel the most whole in nature, we had some great trips and 34 years together which i am grateful for! Thank you for making the video, i know it was very difficult to do.

Thank you for sharing your story, I appreciate you being here very much. Your kind-hearted words "the grief and loneliness reminds me of the love we had so I don't want it to go away" resonates with me. We share very similar stories as we traveled the Pacific Northwest extensively with our Escape 15 in tow (very similar to the all moulded fiberglass Casita) It is my hope that someday I will gain courage to learn to tow it by myself. A community is building here, many with similar stories of loss and heartbreak but also an outpouring of love, support and encouragement . You always have a friend here. May you and your sweet pup to find peace and comfort in nature.❤

What a beautiful tribute to your husband❤. I lost my husband 3 years ago, he passed days before Christmas. The holidays are the toughest times, a bit easier this year as its easier for me, our daughter & our grandchildren to talk about and share the many good memories we have. Reading the comments, it seems like many of us are first timers to your channel, brought here for a reason, perhaps. You, we are not alone. Wishing you comfort as you get thru these difficult times.

I’m so sorry to see this news. 💔
When my husband passed 6 years ago, I discovered there are many women who take up camping solo after that kind of loss, and you have the benefit of both prior camping experience & two good camping setups you have some familiarity with already. Towing the first few times can be a bit unnerving, but I know you can do it, because I did. I’ve learned so many new skills in the last 6 years, you will too!
The first year is hard, the second year can be harder for some. It does ease up some over time. Lean on your support network, and when everything seems overwhelming, just try to remember to take things one breath at a time.

You are so kind. Thank you for your words of peace and encouragement. Once I pull myself up off the ground, I will realize that I'm stronger than I ever imagined and I will be able to put all the camping skills & knowledge I've acquired over the years to good use; and even better yet I will be able to share it with others. I'm blessed with two perfect camping setups. The SUV camper will help me get used to solo camping adventures and when I'm ready I will learn to tow the trailer. I already learned how to winterize it, new skill! One breath at a time - I'll get there. You always have a friend here. ❤️

I am also a widow and a fellow traveler! I feel your pain! I have learned to push way past my comfort zone since Doug passed suddenly in Dec 2015! Since then I bought a camper van and traveled solo around the country! I then bought a teardrop camper and did 4 years of traveling again on my own! I am in my 70’s. I never expected to be alone either! Your husband looks like he was a wonderful partner. Cherish those sweet memories and videos you have together and do what he would want you to do- keep on traveling! I won’t say it gets easier but the grief and pain of loss does soften a bit over time! Hang on tight to your children and those closest to you and when you are ready, learn how to hook and unhook that camper and head on out! We will be here to cheer you on!!!

I found your channel this year, because my doggie soulmate died, and the only way I could find my way back to breathing was to start camping again. I was considering a Honda Pilot, and that’s what led me here. I ended up with a different car, and I named it to honor both the memory of my dog and my stepfather who died three years ago. What a wonderful life you two shared ❤️ Secondly, for the last six years I have watched as my spouse slowly slips away from a rare dementia that hits people in their prime. My heart aches for you, and I am grateful for your incredible cinematographic skill that conveys the fullness of your eyes to ours. I pray you peace, and hope, and memories that grow richer and more meaningful and comforting as time passes. Thank you so very much for sharing.🌹🌹🌹🕊️😩

Oh goodness, I am so sorry for your loss. 😢 I felt this so much. My hubby and I have 40 years in, but we only started our adventuring in 2017 when our 5 children had grown. We love our adventures down long forestry service roads, deep in the wilderness of Idaho. Last year my hubby lost his leg above the knee due to a blood clot. Our adventures have continued…just a little slower now, and I do all the heavy lifting. Seeing your beautiful tribute reminds me that we are so blessed despite his amputation. We will never take a single moment for granted no matter how challenging it may seem. Thank you. 🙏🏻 Keep adventuring. You will feel his presence in the dark starry nights, The magnificent sunrises and sunsets, and the beautiful peaceful forests. Sending you so much love from Idaho. ❤️

Thank you very much for sharing your story. It's so important for myself and others to be reminded of the importance a living a life well spent and that life is fragile and very short. We always spent time with our children outdoors, most "vacations" were spent camping at the beach. It was when they flew the nest that we really learned to play hard, adventure often, learn new hobbies and most importantly, stay active. I'm so glad we did. His illness slowed us down in more recent years...and like you, I did all the heavy lifting but together our bond grew even stronger. Idaho, while so close to us, is one area we didn't get a chance to explore, but it's still on my list. Thank you for the beautiful reminder that I will feel his presence in the dark starry nights, magnificent sunrises and sunsets and beautiful peaceful forests. I wish for you only the very best, adventure on, take lots of photos (better yet, more videos) and please know, you always have a friend here. ❤️

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm a widow starting my third year. I was more the camper but he was the world traveler. We bother had good mechanical skills. He was my partner, my soulmate the father of our children and my roots. I miss his stories and his presence, but I also have not traveled the world like he had before we met. None of us know how much time we have to walk the earth, let's live on and explore it as long as we are able. Life after such a devastating loss is not easy but the sunshine will start to come back into your life and the memories will start to be a joy more than the pain you are feeling now. It will take time. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Blessings.

@@anniej1616 In retrospect, I have begun to wonder if perhaps I had a premonition that our time together would be cut short and is that the reason I was guided in someway to create videos of our journey. If anyone else is reading this, my advice is this: If at all possible, push away feelings of fear and worry. Replace them with powerful thoughts of making each day count doing all you can to ensure you've made the best of your time spent together, give each other extra hugs and let them know how special they are. ❤

I, like others stumbled on your channel... maybe it was the title that caught my attention, as I have experienced a similar loss and know what it's like to suddenly be without your rock, your inspiration, your fan, and your partner. I lost my wife, Tamy in April, 2023,... we had a love affair rooted in adventure and environmentalism that last for 35 years. Her loss was caused by a tragic disease and I know the empty feeling of an empty bed, co-captain, and dinner companion. 20 months later, I am still grieving for my loss but I have also continued to live the adventure. Tamy is with me when I'm in the woods, on the water, behind the camera, and off in some new place. She continues to inspire me and I have learned to move forward with her in my heart.
Your video is a touching tribute and speaks to your strength. I wish you all the best as you try to find a new normal.

Oh gosh, I am so sorry for your loss. I’ve been following you for a while and studied your recent Honda Pilot build out to design my own in my Pilot. Your design was ingenious and it got me into the camping mode. I’m also a birder and photographer so really have loved all your content and beautiful videos. It was easy to see what a fun and loving relationship you and your husband had and that was also joyful to watch. And what a lovely tribute to your Captain that you have shared with us today. Do take care through this difficult time. So hard. Sending a warm embrace your way 💕. Jenny

Thank you for the warm embrace and such kind words - I'm so glad the build inspiring. Our birding and photography day trips inspired the build; those areas are typically locations without services and available food nearby + with lockdowns in 2020, everything was closed. Then the idea evolved because we were finding many of the locations, we could have camped if we were properly setup. We kept perfecting the setup until we designed the build which was absolutely perfect for us. We had so much fun together! Now it will be perfect for me as I learn how to do this on my own. I wish you all the best! ❤️

I enjoy watching camping and overlanding videos so yours popped up in my feed...and I am very glad it did. I am sorry for your loss. At the moment the void left in your life feels insurmountable but know you are so lucky to have experienced such an amazing bond - one that will never be broken. Find comfort in that his love still surrounds you and his spirit continues to guide you on your journey.
