How do you open the remote to check for batteries?

Does your player plays the first two seconds of the track when it's skipped to? Because mine doesn't. And if you have the CD with tracks, combined by seamless transition, check it too. I was pretty disappointed when it added a gap between the tracks where it shouldn't be.
