I remember I got my very first CD player for Christmas from my mom back in 1997. I LOVED it!! She got me a CD player, a couple of CDs, a case for the CD player. I remember every Friday we would go to Sam Goody in the mall to get the latest CDs 😩😩 best memories with my mom ❤
rechargable batteries are good IF they are user replaceable....battery play times decrease as the battery ages...why throw away a perfectly good device just because the battery life is gone?
They have a newer version that allows you to connect to Bluetooth now. Hold down and mode button. Also, you can eject the disc super easily if you push down the center.
MP3 CD players were quite common in late 90's, and they all featured some volatile memory, when playing MP3s it was used to store full tracks of music without the necessity of spinning the disc, that was spun periodically just to read and buffer the track, since they had that amount of RAM they used it as well to "buffer" CD tracks, in the first seconds the CD spun fast to preload some 60 or 120 seconds of track, then the track was read from RAM and the CD continued to read some time ahead and had the time to correct an eventual loss of track, if it eventually ran out of buffer, (if the player was shaken for a long amount of time) it spun again at high speed and recouped the buffer, obviously they had the plus of reading CD-RW, so you could use them as a sort of iPod, some could even optionally be used with rechargeable batteries and had a switch to avoid trying to recharge alkaline batteries ;-D
I had one that played mp3 discs in the early 2000s too. It was great for traveling because you could just bring one disc and have hundreds of songs. It was less expensive than an ipod at the time.
I used to have a Sony D15 portable CD player in 1986-7-8 that was very similar to this. I set it on the dash of my car and used a cassette adapter to play it through my car system.
I just got this CD player today. First portable CD player in many years. So far I very like it I put in Now that's what I call Music 11 and it plays it no issues and it looks very nice nicer than I thought. So far so good I'm enjoying my first portable CD in who knows how long and this is a massive upgrade compared to the one I had before
Portable CD players did have two jacks. One was for head phones and the other was like an Aux out so that you could hook it up to your stereo system and adjust the volume there.
Anti skip might be convenient but it often over compresses your music so it sounds like ass its one of the reasons i like players that let you defeat the anti skip
It's certainly a nice-looking player but it is a shame that they don't seem to be able to use dust-resistant materials. I thought the upper-string sound was a wee bit overbright, but not excessively so.
Unfortunately this CD player seems like it’s junk, atleast the one I have. Hiss and static noise in the background most of the time, random poping noises. It won’t read some of the songs properly on a given disc. This is all happening while the player is sitting flat on a table and I’m not moving it… it’s not even usable.
careful with ram based shock protection, often these units will use compression to get longer times. I've got an early 2000s cd walkman, comes with ESP, and the compression is audible. Most of the time though, the toggle to turn off the shock protection doesnt actually disable the protection, it simply disables the compression, and gives you a shorter ESP time. Even while hiking, an old chip of ram with no compression is more than enough to play even a scratched old cd-r reliably, assuming the batteries aren't getting flat. Plus, rechargable batteries in most old units will actually charge while the unit is on power, so you'll never have to open the battery compartment again. My own even has a power requirement within the range of USB, so I just found the right barrel jack to type a converter, and it runs out of anything. I even sometimes run it off my phone with an otg lead. The real selling point of your model to me is really the headphone splitter. And honestly, I'd rather find a unit with digital out, and get an external splitter.
I got one just like that and I can't make it work... i turn it on and stays on the 3 dots. The cd moves but no sound at all. I tried everything possible. Any ideas? Thanks
A non-removable battery, takes the device with it, when the battery dies. You can buy rechargeavle AA bstteries and swap thrm as they die, and recharge them externally.
I've been looking for a replacement for my old Sony Walkman that finally gave up. Nothing came even close until I saw your review on this. So glad you did. I'm ordering one. Thanks!
I really like this player, the design alone is somewhat unique. As for the rechargeable battery i'm not really a fan of that. It'll be great in the early months/years of use but what about when it won't take any more charge?
That's a concern of mine too. Rather than a built-in rechargeable battery, I'd rather that you put in two standard rechargeable AA or AAA batteries (like nickle-metal hydride) that you can charge in the player. That way you can replace the batteries when they wear out. When I used a portable CD/MP3 player that's what I used. I'd carry two sets of spare rechargeable batteries so I'd always have fresh batteries when needed. The only disadvantage is that they had a shorter play time on a charge, about half of that of disposable alkaline batteries. I rarely had to buy new batteries, and in an emergency I can just buy a pair of disposable batteries that are available everywhere.
Beautiful design but What would've made this modern made device more appealing is a Bluetooth feature. But there are plenty of accessories available to make that happen..
I just invested in new Lithium ion rechargeable AA's for my minidisc walkmans too they have the same capacity as lithium ion energizers but can be recharged up to 500 times before replacing.
Neat portable CD player, Recordology! However, I need to disagree with you regarding the rechargeable battery. I used to enjoy sitting out in the back-yard lawn-swing while sipping my Scotch-On-The-Rocks and enjoying my portable Sony CD player under the headphones. Let me tell you, though, there was nothing worse than just getting started and having the built-in rechargeable battery crap out on the spot. It took a good 4 hours to recharge the damned thing, so.... so much for cocktail hour and tunes. My current Sony portable CD player operates on one AA battery! If it should die in the middle of cocktail hour, I simply pop out the dead AA battery, insert a new one,.and VOILA -- I'm back in business! I buy my AA batteries in bulk at Sam's Club which last seemingly forever at a cost of next-to-nothing compared to over-priced batteries bought at a regular store. Just wanted to let you know that rechargeable batteries are time-consuming. And they also hold less and less of a charge as time goes on. BTW, you look good in orange!!!!
I agree with that. One of my portable dvd players no longer last like it use to and now needs to be charged twice or even 3 times when it would last up to 6 hours on a full charge it’s a SONY FX970 9 inch and the battery is built in to the unit and since it’s a old dvd player I can’t send it out for a battery replacement since it would cost more than what it’s worth and since it takes a special battery I just keep it and plug it in it only last about 2 hours before the low battery light starts flashing. I replaced that Sony with a new one but still il have the same issue with the new dvd player down the line.
@@Agamemnon2 I play two CDs a year if that. It's all about vinyl records for me. You connetct the unit to the power supply (4.5v 500ma) press the stop button and the recharge begins. The mini disc units had that feature first. My mz-r37 also uses 2 aa batteries and you can recharge them inside the mini disc. All you have to do is use rechargable batteries and your all set. The only downside to this is that you can't use everyday cell-phone charger but the dedicated power supply they had inside their box.
I just bought this. Great looking machine with lots of features, but I’m really not happy with the sound. Maybe my unit is defective, but it emits a light hissing sound intermittently, which I can hear even when using earbuds. And even when it’s not hissing, it sounds a bit like fuzzy a.m. radio. Will unfortunately be returning it. My search for a new portable player continues…
The Battery life is a huge plus on this product..Nice video.....Sounds amazing !!!!,and the feature where the disc stops and music continues is great...Cheers Ade

Hi, I have one question. Can we expect to have a good quality sound if we connect an old discman to a modern speaker? Or the discman were made specifically for headphones/earphones? You have great videos!
Hello Mr. Record-ology. Tell me why an in bound battery is a great feature? In my opinion this is the most "stupid" thing to do. Imagine you are in the middle of an audiobook or on your way to work, in the train... and then the battery runs low or even dies. Boum, you are screwed. In the first case you need to recharge, in the second you have discard the device. With AA accumulators this never happens. Only take a second pair of batteries with you, or at home charge the second set while you use the first one. This common solution is so much more comfortable. I think that an inbound battery is a huge step back into the direction of non -reusable devices, what we see more and more in electronics. Greetings F.
It looks interesting, but based on that sound test, it sounded a little harsh and there's a lot of amplifier hiss. That promotional material is hilarious.
Those kids that are shown in the commercial towards the end of the video would wreck that mini CD player in no less than 3.5 mins max just trying to figure out what the hell it is!
Looks like Samsung made the top cover! I have multiple black Samsung products that look exactly the same, but dusty and matte because of all the scratches 😅
I purchased one this CD players, I used it one time for one song only, the second time that I wanted to use it didn't work. I feel like I just wasted 60+ dollars.
The inbuilt battery isn't a great thing.it will wear out and not be replaceable. They planned that so u throw it out and buy a new product like smart phones these days .
Where do you find this stuff? It's like when I watch your videos and you have all this stuff and I never heard of it before and I never imagine ever hearing of it at all. Where do you tap into all this stuff? I think you just wake up in the morning and walk out your kitchen and boom! There's just this box with this thing inside of it but you just can't wait to open up and see what's inside and then see how inefficient the thing is in the long run!😎
It's not technically a rechargeable portable CD player like the one in the video but I have a Sony CD Walkman D-NF430 from around 2004 that only takes a single battery and a modern rechargeable 2000 mAh Duracell AA cell is good for at least 4 or 5 hours of CD playing per charge (re: I can play full-length ~80 minute CDs such as ABBA Gold around 4 times on a single charge) or, if I'm just listening to the radio (which this particular CD Walkman includes), I think I can listen all day.
I'm sorry. I have the stop this video at 1:28 because I can't get over how excited this grown man get's when he opens things up. He goes crazy with excitement! It's like he's lived on some other planet and never opened up an electronic device inside of a box before with manuals and accessories and the unit itself and how it's packed in and how cool the box is and all that! I am age 55 and I'm terrible with guessing ages and I will not guess this man's a but he has to be probably at least around 20 years younger than me maybe even more but he's still a grown man and he freaks out when opening new things! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Have this one. Ditch the ear buds - they do nothing for it. I use a pair of Sony micro headphones from the late 80's and the sound is much better. The EQ hardly does anything. The charging light can be seen when charging - when it changes the led is not viewable unless you tilt the machine at an angle to see. No stop button! It has the retro Panasonic look going for it. Sound - not as good as the old Sony's and Panasonics. Battery charged only - when it goes the whole unit has to be ditched. Another downside to this type charging is, it will need charging when you don't use it or I guess the battery will die unlike a player that takes separate batteries than can be removed when stored. This is just a throwback to the old days of cd. I bought it from Amazon. If someone is not used to good quality - then this is for them. I am still old fashioned and use cd's - will be interesting how long this will live - My old Sony and Panasonic is still going after 20 odd years. I like the very retro fake wood effect and styling. Remember get rid of the horrible ear pieces - they sound crap! Used the unit first time today and either headphones or lead into portable speaker, this thing keeps stopping on it's own. Battery was fully charged this morning and is showing empty after five hours use on normal volume. It's going back to Amazon. Stick with the reputable companies.
With the fake wood and smoked translucent cover, it looks like a scaled-down 1970s music center.
These headphones look identical to the AKG that came with my Samsung phone a few years ago, after they acquired Harmon.

But it would lose the cd quality by transmitting to BT

It's not technically a rechargeable portable CD player like the one in the video but I have a Sony CD Walkman D-NF430 from around 2004 that only takes a single battery and a modern rechargeable 2000 mAh Duracell AA cell is good for at least 4 or 5 hours of CD playing per charge (re: I can play full-length ~80 minute CDs such as ABBA Gold around 4 times on a single charge) or, if I'm just listening to the radio (which this particular CD Walkman includes), I think I can listen all day.
It's superficially attractive, but bound for the landfill soonerrather than later. "Awesome!"
Looks pretty cool! Can it play when the battery is charging?
If it had toslink
can you play it on your car radio?
Yes it has an aux cable
Definitely puts my 2004 Audiovox CE146DPK into average status.
I had a GPX model with 2 headphone jacks, and it was awesome, especially on bus rides when I wanted to let someone else listen too.
The headphones look just like the akg headphones that came with my note 9
CD players don't drain batteries like MP3 players do. My Sony Walkman CD player can run on 1 AA battery for weeks with regular use.
Can this be hooked up to a bose resolve Bluetooth speaker?
No this does not have BT.
This was made in my birthday!
Wow, just let people enjoy things will you? Who says we all have to become boring when we hit 35?
Rude
Searick has the model the only difference its black
Can you suggest one good CD player with high volume to buy ?
