I remember them in NI i used to live near Aldergrove and I think it was 17/21st lancers had them, i used look at the vehicle park , I went to school with the Army and Airforce kids, I remember being in one from The GCH base in Belfast City centre and being bricked an bottled down the Andersons town Road things you do for a spin saladin. Served 27 years all Op Banner Loved the Sarecen's and the pigs .
One ruined hay paddock later....."yep that seems to be working". Could't stop grinning. I'm half expecting to see a "ton" class minesweeper in the background floating on the duck pond.
I served in the 17/21 Lancers in Ireland with the saladin, certainly had some fun and games with them, one we got on handover was stuck at 30 mph, so I took out the governor slung it 60 mph after that no problem.
Actually gobsmacked at the Seahawk! I served 13 years in the RN and was based at RNAS Culdrose/HMS Seahawk for many of those years, where there is a Seahawk gate guardian. I’d love to have a look round that yard
Way back in the 60's my old man was posted to Benghazi. They took some of the Army wives on a jolly into the desert, they had a Saladin and 2 Saracens and 2 10 tonners,my mum have a whale of a time. And yes they fried eggs on the mudguards.
Supposedly stealthy with the quiet RR petrol lump, but really not due to the habit of spitting 24” flames out of the exhaust when not perfectly set-up. Perfectly set-up was, to quote Eddie Izzard’s shower sketch, between “here” and [no measurable movement] “here”. Makes great noises though; mmm, straight-8
Those belts are essential to the distinctive sound the Saladin or Saracens fans makes. Any olders Squaddies or paddies knows that sound when it coming down the street.
Wow , a 1950s Saladin , as a young soldier in the 70s , driven them , and the Saracen. We don't make armour like we used too . The Fox was a poor replacement for this though , not so the classic CVRT range of vehicles .
loving the saladin - doesn't sound bad either in case you have issues sourcing ruby light lenses, all three colours, i may be able to get them depending on price, they may also still have a number of periscopes, small size same as for ferret, cvrts etc scorpion, ping me back and i'll see what i can do you
EEEY up chaps hows tha diddlin :-) Nice to see an old girl like that runnin. Was in the 1st Royal Tank Regiment and one of the first vehicles I manned was its cousin, The Pig, Saracen APC. It's the same basic vehicle, without turret, only turned arse about face with engine at the front. Plenty sore ankles from that pre select :-( good news is yer din't get hatch rash with em :-) I do remember though, wen a waz a nipper, sitting on my dad's knee driving one around Oldham Edge, just up the road from the Drill Hall. (he was in 41/47 RTR) I even cleaned the 76mm Gun. After that I graduated to the good old Cent at the grand age of 8. Memories.... pull up a sandbag an bring back them good old days.
Matt, you guys have done really well with the Saladin. We are in early stages of restoring one based in Hever in Kent. Where are you guys based as it would be great to swap experiences. Regards John
Can anyone explain how you get to buy a gate guard vehicle. I have seen various you tubers buying and fixing them. Are they posted for sale? In Canada here they would never be sold. Also can anyone guess what kind of price would be paid for this vehicle ball park only with a seized motor should be maybe scrap price? Who would set price ? In Canada govt surplus is all sold on web on auction. Also do you need a special license to be able to buy military surplus?
Loving the 6.0 F550 there 💪 ain't nothing wrong with them... Just gotta look after em and understand how they work to fix em 👍 trouble your going to find in the UK is finding bits and people who know how they work 🤔 I work for a Ford dealer in Canada if you need any help with it 😉
Its a cummins its obviously broken LMAO - sorry for triple posting, I should save it for the end. Fuck me that engine sound amazing despite running with Bale twine! Fuckin legends :-D
If you need parts, as much as I hate to point you in his direction, Nick Mead at tanks a lot has a lot of spare goodies for the right price of you check his Web site for a phone number.

Spent many happy times as radio op in the saladin in Germany (Herford). Great vehicle.
What a great piece of kit! That throaty roar is music to my ears.
From the stories my dad as told me about his time driving saladins is the hubs are great at taking out cars that get to close or are parked :)
that shot of the pulleys running with a bit of rope XD
Baler twine?
😂😂😂😂😂ye I saw that too
Salad can Serverd on these in Aden ‘64-64, ‘65-69 Munster West Germany, great times lots of memories and stories!
One ruined hay paddock later....."yep that seems to be working". Could't stop grinning. I'm half expecting to see a "ton" class minesweeper in the background floating on the duck pond.
I have driven one at Bovington. I am 6ft3 and fit fine. Gunner left commander right. 76mm gun same as what was fitted to Scorpion.
Love the Seahawk. Last came across these as a Junior Naval Air Mechanic in 1964 at RNAS Yeovilton.
I served in the 17/21 Lancers in Ireland with the saladin, certainly had some fun and games with them, one we got on handover was stuck at 30 mph, so I took out the governor slung it 60 mph after that no problem.
i used to drive a saracen in N.I, great fun at full speed

Gotta love the sound of a B80
Oh boy the engine in your new toy sounds amazing!!! Best of luck
Loving the factory spec fan belts....

Don't forget to "toggle up " each of the five gears to tighten up the gearbox brake bands. Engine sounds great !
glad to see someone else who remembers that first thing in the morning
We had to depress the GCP 14 times in each gear, no wonder my nearside knee joints are knackered !!
Those belts are essential to the distinctive sound the Saladin or Saracens fans makes. Any olders Squaddies or paddies knows that sound when it coming down the street.
Wow 😮. You guys are so fortunate. Brilliant . When everything you have isn’t working buy something else 🤣 👍
I’ll have work round that at Imphal, I was a contractor on the site for a while. Great to see her working 👍
Very impressive vehicle the Saladin.
Great video once again, please keep them coming thick and fast please
Always wanted a saladin or a scimitar just to go the shops in 🤣🤣
As a former trooper IN QOY I walked past it a couple of times a week in 1980's. I guess they have replied it with a Fox or a Sabre now.
Rolls Royce B80 Straight 8. Love the sound.

Fantastic, soon as I win that Lotto lads I'll be emailing you ;-J
Starting the Sea Hawk is likely to end in tears. I might have a copy of one of the Air Publications that covers it if you're interested?
Why, if it’s done properly, according to the book? Plus, if it was properly preserved. Yeah, your right.
Amazing Fellas
You can get this registered for the road and legally drive it on the road. I'm guessing it's old enough to be MOT exempt.
Correct, but at around 6/8 MPG, and the danger of stripping out a bevel box because of "windup", they can be very expensive to run.

If I ever had the resources to own a FV600 series vehicle it would be a dream come true. Preferably a FV620 Stolly
Preselect gear boxes are good fun, is the gear change a pedal or a button on a saladin?
A good truck in its day.

How much hay did you not harvest because of that test run? 🙂
That is an amazing "toy".
I run a Special Effects company, I do the SFX for Combat Dealers etc. Fancy some cool effects with the Saladin?
We’re taking a variety of vehicles to tanks, trucks n firepower if you want to get involved?
Could we get a at the Jet Provost please

Must be nice to be as rich as your mate and buy random stuff to fiddle with and nowt else to do :) a dream life.

@@MrHewes it’s that I’ve got done engine spares for a B61/81

Nice one! I'd maybe give my left b*llock to have a set of 'toys' like that! BTW tights work better than string as temporary fan belts! 🤣
'Kinell those fanbelts
LOL "the parts still havent fucking come" yep thats what we have to say to assembly regularly
And I want to see the Fastracs, not bloody Navy stuff!! I might have put the Bonnets on the 3000 Series FT ha ha.
Its a cummins its obviously broken LMAO - sorry for triple posting, I should save it for the end. Fuck me that engine sound amazing despite running with Bale twine! Fuckin legends :-D
