"Y'know, Sean Connery wrestling with things that aren't really there and screaming at them... I- I feel like that's actually happening right now." This aged well xD
This movie is not nearly as bad as some out there, but it's more of a disappointment than anything. When you have characters like this, the movie should at least be decent.
Justin Clowater it feels more like wasted potential than anything. The premise is pretty cool, and imagine the Extraordinary Gentlemen going up against Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman, etc. for a sequel.
Juber777 I'd say it was more the writing was flat than the direction. There's just nothing particularly interesting about these characters, and that's a shame considering the literary history of these characters.

You know, oddly enough, after watching (and loving) this movie. I wanted to find out who Tom Sawyer, Dorian Grey, and Ishmael were. I looked for their books. So yes, this movie did what Pagemaster couldn’t, it got me to read more.
You had to make the K-pop joke right as I was taking a sip of water, didn't you? Considering that the other movie Tom Sawyer's actor is known for is A Walk to Remember, he really was the equivalent of one.
About 3:25, it looks to me like that building is probably a flat image. It would basically be the computer effects equivalent of a cardboard cut-out as a set piece. It's not a bad technique for distant objects, but the closer the camera is (or the faster it's perpendicular motion is) the more of a problem the lack of 3D perspective becomes.
Mainly that an inventor like Nemo should know better and refer to it as an improvement or refinement of the automobile. Then again, his design is decades ahead of anything being manufactured in Europe or the U.S. at the time so the reaction of the others makes some sense.
I really don't understand the hate. I liked it. I liked the concept, the characters they used, and honestly if you're looking for an actor to play Allen Quartermain Sean Connery seems like the perfect guy for the job.
CeltycSparrow Van Helsing is more over the top, with way more action and overacting. It does manage to have a few really good scenes and ideas on top of it. It is also more focused on the characters the audience is actually interested in. I would guess that less than 1% of the audience watched League for Tom Sawyer, but his center and front all over the movie. League just never develops the overall drive Van Helsing has. Van Helsing is a good guilty pleasure as it is entertaining, definitely not deep, but entertaining.
I love watching the First Viewings by Doug and Rob. Two things I would love to see you do more “What You Never Knew” segments for NC and Steven Universe vlogs you will be amazed and shocked with what has happened!!
bruh drake Says who? They are still making videos, getting decent views and even recovering subs. UA-cam only closes channels that have received three copyright strikes.
I loved this movie as a kid. It was what introduced me to a few of these old stories. As an adult I still look at it fondly, but I see how it could have been so much better and I get a little sad.
Their Dad probably wouldn't want to see them tear the movie up - or he KNOWS it's crap and doesn't want to bother lol I LOVE the Star Wars prequels - the Brendan Fraiser Mummy movies - I KNOW their crap, m'kay? But I love them because they're part of my childhood. So I can't view them without tying them to my memories - so I don't enjoy watching them get shredded and avoid stuff that involves that.

Why is Mina Harker a vampire? Pretty sure she wasn't in the book. I remember thinking this was alright back then, but now? Why aren't they going crazier with this? Effects are nice enough, Connery's performance raises it, but yeah...I can see why he left. This sadly, is not that extraordinary.
I honestly adored this movie as a kid. I remember watching it all the time though I can totally understand your guys' thoughts. Loved the NC review it was hilarious as always!
Tidbits of trivia: Stuart Townsend was fired from Lord of the Rings (cast as Arragorn) before filming began and Connery declined the role of Gandalf. Kind of makes you wonder how completely different the LoTR trilogy might have been different/ruined.
I was around 10 when I first saw this. All the references made me feel really smart and as I got older I picked up more. Yeah it is dumb and silly but very nostalgic. Kinda want to find the comic now
I don't know. Hyde? Richard Roxburg? I liked Richard Roxburg in Van Helsing more. He just seemed more interesting, even though not in all the positive ways.

XDDDD Oh, my god, Rob's Mickey Mouse rant was the BEST.
Why hasn't anyone animated that yet?!
Because no one can really do it justice. Unless Disney does it themselves
Goofy was a Klansman? Right, and Donald Duck was a Nazi.....oh wait, that actually happened.
It was a dream sequence it wasn't real the cartoon was made during world war 2 it was war propaganda do your research

@@moviemaniac9034 i honestly don't remember. I mostly remember mr jones being the lead. That idea came out after the movie came out.

Yeah. the biggest disappointment was that this could've been a great movie but the characters are just so flat.
Nathan Drake maybe directing was flat?
Juber777 I'd say it was more the writing was flat than the direction. There's just nothing particularly interesting about these characters, and that's a shame considering the literary history of these characters.
Justin Clowater
I'd say it's a combination of both. For one, the characters are fairly weak and the direction doesn't help the matter.

Nevermind that the automobile was first produced over a decade prior to when this movie was set ... the Benz motor car in 1885.
