I've been watching a film from 1932 ("The Death Kiss") and it floored me to see an actual icebox used in the film, including a plot point of someone using the ice delivery door outside.

One didn't really needed to have electricity, some refrigerators also worked on gas, although I'm not sure from which year onwards that was
Even into the early '70s, there were still gas refrigerators. Mobile homes had them too; maybe still do.
