my son was not born with a squint he was absolutely healthy fine no vision problems ,
but when he turned 2.5yrs one fine day out of the blue his eye just turned squint, we were so gutted , we went to many doctors and finally corrected it with a surgery a bit of squint still remains without the specs but with specs his eyes are straight, the doctor said when he turns 18 we can do a laser to correct the number and that in turn will correct the squint without specs.
my question is can u tell how can a kid out of the blue get a squint, one doctor went to the extent saying he was born with it , i felt like slapping him coz were we blind for 2 years that we couldnt see the squint?

I am now 5 days post op of my second strabismus surgery. They did two muscles in my right eye (very painful!). First surgery was 9 years ago when I was 14 on both eyes with one muscle per eye. They have already informed me that chances are I will have the surgery again in 20 years. All worth it if there is no more double vision!

Do you have a primary doctor? They should be able to refer you somewhere. If not, do a google search for "psychiatrists near me" or contact any mental health clinic. PLEASE reach out to a professional for help until you get the help you need. DO NOT give up!!!
Have you met with an eye surgeon about having this surgery? I will know Monday when I am having it done! I do have double vision and migraines, etc. due to strabismus, however in the past year my eye drifting has gotten noticeably worse because my friends and family are pointing it out to me and that is why I called and made an appointment with an eye doctor who referred me to a surgeon. So I totally understand how you feel about your confidence, you're not alone!! I actually broke down and cried when the eye doctor told me she didn't think I would be able to get surgery since my vision was getting worse, lol! Embarrassing, but I guess she felt bad for me since she decided to send me to surgeon anyways just to see what they said, so good thing I did get emotional during my eye exam! 🙃
Good luck! You deserve to be happy and confident !!!

I've dealt with my eyes being like this for my entire life, and it is to the point of being a crippling debilitation in recent years. Are there any charities or programs you know of that may be of assistance? My life is at a standstill, and there isn't anything I can personally do about it. Any assistance would be immeasurably appreciated.

Unfortunately since it is elective you will likely need to pay upfront. Have you sought disability designation from this if it keeps you from working? Perhaps then you could qualify for medicaid in your state and eventually get it.

    • @ashleyperry9086
      @ashleyperry9086 Рік тому

Apply for disability benefits! You can also apply for medicaid in your state. I didn't think medicaid would cover the surgery, but it is considered a medical surgery rather than a vision surgery, if that makes sense. Another option- call 211 to reach community services, they could probably get you in touch with local charity organizations. Good luck!!

I have two children with nystagmus and one with strabismus too. The child with only nystagmus underwent a very successful strabismus surgery to correct it and the results were miraculous.
The one with both is set to undergo strabismus surgery on both eyes in a few days and I'm a nervous wreck. But it's absolutely necessary. He's the most brilliant child I've ever met, and not to sound like a narcissist but I was a top 1% gifted student myself. This child is so far beyond where I was at his age in raw intelligence it's scary. But he's struggling in school because he can't see well enough to keep up despite some accomodations.

I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago and I’m unsure how to feel about the results. I had extropia strabismus in both eyes intermittently. My doctor corrected two muscles in my left eye, but only one in my right eye. I’m not sure if this was because I use my right eye the most as my main focus eye. As for my results after surgery, if I focus on something with my right eye, my left eye drifts a little bit, but for the most part, both of my eyes look straight. If I focus on something with my left eye, then my right eye drifts further out, and it is very noticeable as if it wasn’t corrected at all. I know that I am only two weeks postop so I need to give myself time but it is giving me anxiety that may be the surgery was not successful and I may have to do another one. I am doing my best to be hopeful. Is there anything that I can do myself to strengthen the eye muscle postop? I know this may be a stupid question, but I am desperate for this surgery to be successful.

Hi, I am quite on in years. I’m at a prism of 13 BO for Strabismus and it slowly continues to get worse. My right eye is inward and down. The left eye is OK.
I have high myopia. Probably 12 diopters of correctness. My eyes are egg-shaped. The retinas are stretched thin.
I’m at a high risk because of the above and because I have had a number of previous eye surgeries. I have had surgery for a detached retina in the left eye and laser for three retinal tears in the right eye. I have had cataract surgery on both eyes, laser for secondary cataract in the right eye; a macular cyst on the left eye; surgery for a retina wrinkle in the left eye.
My question is, given all of this, should I have the surgery for Strabisimus on my right eye? I hate the double vision and eye contact with others is difficult. Do you have a recommendation?

Tomorrow is my 29th surgery all together but I must say it is a pretty painful surgery for me. It probably doesn’t help that there’s so much scar tissue, but it’s definitely more than a discomfort… I never understood when surgeons or doctors who have never had something done can tell you how much pain you are in. I’m so scared after I watched the strabismus surgery 😢. I have Grave’s disease and Chiari one malformation, both of my eyes are bulging one is bulging out more than the other. My left pupil now goes up a little and my right goes down a little bit when I look straight, but my left pupil goes up more when I look to the left, when I drive I would have to turn my neck to the left to look to the left. I can’t look straight and my head has to tilt a little to the right most of the time. Adjusting the suture when having no anesthesia is painful.

I was born with strabismus. Had my first surgery when I got my own insurance at 18. It wasn't enough to do the one weaker right eye (which is usually the one that turns in) only so I had to go back for a second op on the dominant eye. The results were ok. A noticeable difference and I didn't need glasses at the time. 20 years passed and I went back to have strabismus surgery in ATL about 5 months ago at 39yo. Haven't noticed any change, especially with glasses off. I insisted on adjustable sutures after reading so many positive experiences but was told they don't help and wouldn't be performed. After my final post-op (3 months), the doctor was happy with the results of operating on just the weaker eye. Should I try someone else? It's wasn't cheap, even with good insurance. There's not a lot of options where I live and even Atlanta is 2.5 hours drive each way. Maybe my brain is too stubborn. Maybe I have no recourse. My surgeon also had nothing good to say about vision therapy. I don't know what to do. Kind of hopeless at this point. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Now, it's gone, however now when I hold something close to my eyes I get a short, sharp mini headache that only lasts a few seconds. Well I had cataract surgery on both eyes a little over a year ago and after that my lazy eye got worse, not sure if it's because I can actually see now without a haze, well I thought having the surgery again for my lazy eye would be good because it was giving me headaches when it would turn, but...I am not very happy, the eye that was supposed to be corrected is now out of line (it was straight before just lazy) and my lazy eye is so much worse and more headaches from it. If you're reading this my question is should i go back, will be a totally different doctor for sure, and try again? I'm honestly scared to because I already hate how I look and worry i'll look even worse if it's done wrong again.

I was told about ten years ago I couldn't have the procedure done because I would have double vision, but the doctor was actually frustrated during my exam because I have double strabismus and I have learned to control my eyes to an extent. So my current doctor would have to tell me which eye to relax when doing the exam and measurements because my eyes would keep switching. But thank you for the video, it was helpful, and I'm heading for my last appointment today before the surgery and now I know what questions to ask.

That's just like my case! I was getting frustrated at the exam because my eyes kept switching and none of doctors were able to give me clear instruction as to whether I am suppose to relax it and let it go or keep it together. How did your surgery go? Mine is planned for this week and I am scared that my brain won't accept it as I can't connect the picture together.

My husband just had this surgery, and he had a stroke 2 years ago that weakened his right side of the body, even took most of his vision and weakened eye muscles. Sees double, blurry, etc. he found a doc that gave him glasses with prisms and was doing soso… still not able to drive or anything but he just had this surgery 2 days ago and he’s so disappointed he says he feels like it made it worse 😢I’m so sad for him but hopefully it heals and he realizes it’s better.

Operation straightens your eyes whilst prism gives an illusion of straight eyes/straightens the eyes only when you were glasses look at it is as long term fix or short term fix✌🏾

Thanks for doing this video! My surgery is in 12 days. I've never had general anesthesia and am almost 70. I'm looking forward to the improved vison. I had TED and it caused the eyes to go in different directions. I hope my brain can relearn how to coordinate things again. I do wear a patch and switch it from right to left so one doesn't get left out of the party for too long.

hello miss, i (age:18M)had squint (esotropia) surgery 6 months ago, my squint was 15 degree before surgery and after surgery according to doctor its from 5 to 10 degree now. So i as i still have squint left so i am still uncomfortable and its bothering me and it has been bothering me almost my whole life, no confidence nothing so i asked my surgeon if we can do another surgery and reduce squint to 0 degree or the least so it won't visible anymore so he checked my eyes with all the stuff and instruments and prism and everything and told me something which really made me sad, so according to his tests hirschberg is 5 to 10 degrees, EOM is full, PODT is up to 20 degree and PCT is 15 to 20 degree, and he said if he fixes it after second surgery which he mentioned as "residual squint with glasses esotropia" i will have diplopia or double vision and he said if its really bothering me i can have second surgery but he wont fix it completely since by doing that i will get double vision and he said he will correct it as much as i wont get double vision. So i wanted to ask you if there is any way to reduce the chances of double vision so that i get straight eyes and confidence, if there is any way to have straight eyes without double vision please let me know it will help me alot and ill be really thankful. and one more thing if i get surgery now as i have shared data of prism test and all what are the chances of the squint not being visible to others?
