Early 81 while in the Navy some buddies and I went to a club in southern Brooklyn (no way can I remember the name of the club) and Zebra was playing there. Wow!!! Was in awe!!! They covered Zeppelin and Rush like in another stratosphere. What amazing sound.
Atlantic dropped the ball. Zebra should have been mega stars. Better for us though. We get the intimacy of seeing them perform in clubs and bars. They still rock and Randy Jackson is awesome when he performs solo. Truly gifted musicians who sound just as great live, if not better, than recorded. Grossly underrated. They even get better with age!
Actually, back in the late 70's they played all the local clubs in New Orleans, and their repertoire was Zeppelin, Rush and Moody Blues covers....awesome band. Saw them for the first time at The Warehouse in New Orleans in 1978.
I saw Zebra open for ZZ Top at the Warehouse in 1980. They covered "A Farewell to Kings"...what other band would even attempt that? Early versions of The La La Song were epic also!
Have loved Zebra from the very first time I heard them. Nearing 60 and still rock out to them. Music that was meant to play loud. Outstanding musicians.
My goodness, I wore out so many Zebra cassette tapes. These times will be missed. Hopefully we get this virus under control and Zebra continues to play
Thanks for this I had this record when it was new and loved the whole album. They opened for cheap trick many times and those were some great shows. I saw zebra at a small bar in Tulsa Oklahoma and was always impressed with the huge sound and fantastic songs. They didn't move around on stage much but it didn't matter Zebra fans dig them. Most of my friends didn't. Their loss
This song always made me want to learn to play better guitar. I still suck at it. Love this song and others. Too bad these guys weren't given the kudos they deserved. Good memories from a more innocent time in my life.
Pretty formative for me in my high school years in the 80’s in New Orleans. Great sound, thoughtful musicality, and Randy was an amazing talent. I think a couple of them went to Kennedy High School in New Orleans. Randy, Guy, and Felix if I remember right. Saw them play during the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans.
i think ZEBRA was one of those bands that didn't get quite the attention of other (lesser) bands. i also felt that way about TRIUMPH--great vocals and guitar.. so many bands appeared in the 80s.. some got lost a bit in the mix or didn't get a lot of airplay--even bands like Dokken, were an opening band. i saw them open for Judas Priest and that was a bad idea--dokken wasn't metal enough to open for the crazed priest fans of the time and threw garbage and bottles at the stage. today many people look back and recognize their talent (george lynch is a legendary guitarist!) but they just didn't hit the highest notes of success back then or get heavy rotation airplay.
+VolatileDisposition My friend took his nephew to see Def Leppard at Alpine Valley in the early 80s. Much to his amazement, the opening act was booed off the stage. That's who he went to see. It was Gary Moore. They actually threw sod at him. My friend almost got in a fight or three while showing his displeasure.
My favorite music these men compose ultimate talent they way he uses his instrument Randy is a master the ultimate supremely talented tone colaration brilliance of the mind through his choice and appoch master artist brilliant
This performance could be in 1982-83 as they used to play this in local bars on Long Island (Hammerheads and others further east) even before they recorded their first full debut album. This signature song was first recorded on “WBAB Home Grown” album. Not sure where this was recorded sine the video looks professional with all the angles. Randy Jackson was a great front man and Guy and Felix were also excellent musicians to make this 3 man band sound to great. I should add that Zebra initially played Zeppelin covers live and had an amazing loyal following and they started to sprinkle in their own material like this Who’s Behind the Door gem that were very popular fan requests.
I'm not sayin they're a 2 hit wonder I'm just saying this and Tell Me What You Want are up there with any rock song written. BTW you can hear his ode to Plant on this at times and his ode to Page on his live solo during TMWYW. Not copying, just ode-ing...Zebra made/had their own sound.
CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED !!!!!!! Dude was a total savage.
Randy Jackson is one incredible guitarist, singer, and songwriter. A massive talent.

Saw them many years ago as a 13 year old boy. I’m 61 now and this song still makes me cry!

Absolutely right
this is one of the most metal acoustic rock songs ever. & to all who think ZEBRA brings it live...
Dead On Brutha

What bar ? I saw them open for the Radiators in Vegas at the Sahara on a Grateful Dead weekend incursion in like 93 .
How nice to be able to hear the guitar! So often it is lost in the other live recordings
I agree. They must have had an amazing sound engineer. Their live recordings are mind blowing.
Such a great under rated band, listened to their debut album endlessly back in the day, this takes me back!
This song always made me want to learn to play better guitar. I still suck at it. Love this song and others. Too bad these guys weren't given the kudos they deserved. Good memories from a more innocent time in my life.
God bless you! Jesus saves sinners! Ratt n roll. I like the music and his vocal style
Randy has some serious pipes. His voice is exactly as it sounds on records.
A friend had this concert on VHS in the early 80s and I wore it out. Awesome band who deserved more credit.
Spot on live performance

A very young randy! I love these guys and very underrated

This it the most predictive song, we actually are living what the song mean
They were HUGE on Long Island NY way back when. Makes me feel old, young while hearing them again now...and glad to be alive then AND now.
This song has always meant a lot to me 🦓🦓🦓
When me and my friends went to concerts we went for the group but also musical talent, and Zebra was both. Still crank it loud n proud.
Just PHENOMENAL! ...SKILLS!
OMG. What a voice. ✌️
sorta Zeppelin-meets-Rush. great band.
They were a ballad band before there was a rush to have ballads, love this song! Beautiful!
Love Zebra and there music' always thought this song was about ETs though. 😊
Wish the volume was up more..but great video. Thanks!
The Oversoul and All-God, Gawd-damn!

Don't remember if I saw them when I was in New Orleans... Lol
Brilliant song
great upload! would love to know the date, city, & other band(s) for this performance.
Not many real bands left anymore!!....WOW!!
Sooo sweeet!

I know their debut dropped in 1983, but what year is this concert from? Same year? Maybe 84?
not sure, but, yeah, gotta be either '83 or early '84.
Blew Aerosmith of the stage at coliseum
Great song.....poor man's ELP though.
What year was this performance from?
1984
In their prime
I first saw them as an up and coming garage band...
they had a gig at Speaks in Island Park NY.

Too bad video only has right channel working for sound.
Monte
MON
They will be crushed by Jesus Christ at His return!
I think Randy/Zebra will get a pass. Jesus probably will put evil higher up on the list of who and what to crush.
What year was this performance?
