Who would have ever thought that a mandolin would provide the intro for on of the greatest rock songs!
Anyone still loving this song in 2024?
Always
Always will
One of those songs that are timeless that everybody can join in and sing along to
100% agree.

You’re supposed to be losing your religion ya maroon
From the first time I heard this brilliant song, I've never forgotten it. I will listen to it, anytime, anywhere. ❤
Old good time
"Losing My Religion" remains one of R.E.M.'s most beloved and enduring songs, often cited as one of the greatest songs of the 1990s and a defining track of the alternative rock genre.
WHAT A FRONTMAN. Truly amazing performance. He doesn't skip a beat.
First time watching this. Unbelievable. The emotion in his performance is breathtaking!
yeah, literally !
Best ever listen this over and over again 🇳🇱💪👍
So human, so poignant, so spiritual, so humble, and suddenly you enter into the realm of spirit and never want to leave. This has such a special vibe. So honest.
Bands in the 90s seemed to lose themselves in the music, jus throw themselves into the song. Really sends shivers down my spine. So glad to have been part of this history xx
Love that the bass is more pronounced in the live versions. The mandolin usually gets the spotlight on this song but that bass line is holding it all together.
Isn’t it tho
I’d want to play bass if I found some dudes who wanted to play this
Indeed, I always feel Mike Mills' bass work (and his harmonizing backing vocals) on this song is a bit underappreciated. Still, it doesn't really work with the mandolin substituted for a guitar.
Good ear bro
Very true, my friend; but they all rock, don't they??😁😄
@@MrLBPug No, indeed; it has to be the mandolin to have such an impact, doesn't it?
My neighbors listen to this song everyday!
That's cause they have no choice!
Awesome! ✌🎶🎤
I can't believe this!! My initials are ss and my neighbors have to listen to this and all my favorite songs(Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, Black Crows) just to name a few every morning and I don't like them at all so they can go f*** themselves if they don't like it!! 😋Have a great day!!
Myu. Friend. Is Brasil you?
Ha! . I loved early early REM and then not so much the middle period but anyway many years later have come to the opinion that they stand up on iron legs and that they represent the best of post Band [ The Band } Americana. Along with David Byrne, Stipe is the most under rated musical intelligence of his generation.
Hope the volume is on 11
This song became a favorite when it first came out, I am soon to be 71 and I just watched this, tomorrow I'll sing it to my cats, GFR is my favorite group, but REM is right there, every waking hour, I'm choosing my confessions
Rock On im 24 I love this song
This 72 year old woman hears you.

Well done Aprilsmith. Everyone needs a song or place to visit. Cheers
This is one of those songs that no matter hold old it gets will always be listened to, guaranteed people will still listen to it for thousands of years
until ans after the end of sects/religions
This song will never get old because it was recorded in youth. That snapshot lives forever
I wouldn't bet real money on that prediction.
The cream tends to rise to the top even if it takes a while…
@@bladeswelove not like he's able to pay up by then anyway
Perhaps It's just me, but I believe this one is the best version of this song...as real as it's surrealist, full of emotion and of....ecstasy...
Dude straight up said I can taste and feel you 😂😂 know he was tripping
You got ears man…I believe so to..I study this song , the violins and the mandolin come thru beautiful..and the vibe in the building captivates it.. the whistle at 1:26 is beautifully timed by whoever felt that line. 🎼 Music is an angelic entity in and of itself period.
Did you watch a live version in Canadá? That's the best, no doubt
It’s amazing how sometimes we just aren’t ready for certain lyrics, tunes or pieces of art until we have lived through various experiences, met different people, felt joys and pains, failed and bled, returned and grew. As a kid I heard this song a lot on the radio and cast it away as irrelevant. How wrong I was. This version particularly pierces into my soul. Cheers REM. Thank you.
How so very true are your words. Thank YOU!
Lies again? Bible In Arabic USD SGD
So absolutely true and well articulated! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. This is so very true. One of the bands I cast aside at the time was Audioslave. As a huge SG fan, I just didn't get it at the time. I sifted through the first 2 albums again a few years ago and I was just floored. Right art, right time. ❤
Just pure talent. No auto tune. Michael sounds better than many singers recordings!! ❤
I love that he just keeps singing in this song - no breaks except for the repeated intro - so insistent no middle 8, and so deliberate - great untraditional writing
Never gets old.
got back home after a 36 hour rave with afters... first time watching this particular rendition and cracked in tears... im pumped up emotionally for sure but damn this is such a wonderful performance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pumped up with substances you'd probably cracked in tears at baby shark
The mandolin makes this beautiful piece of music. !🎼

@@tortoiselover you do realize the song actually isn’t about losing religion. that is a southern expression for “losing my temper” it’s not “satanist” omfg…
Ain't music a wonderful thing??😁
Still relevant.
I absolutely love this song. 40 years later I’m listening to Losing my Religion and watching REM on UA-cam. Im 56 now and I go straight back to 20 something in college at AU. Right across the Georgia line. Thank you, REM for the soundtrack to my college memories.
21 years old right now and R.E.M. are one of my favourite bands ever. I’m glad my parents played them all the time growing up!

Been listening since 86 [ I'm old)
Good for u young man!!

I'm 18 and they have been my favorite band for four years now
Oh life, is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spot-light
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
Every whisper, of every waking hour
I'm choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this, the hint of the century
Consider this the slip
That brought me to my knees, failed
What if all these fantasies come
Flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
That was just a dream
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spot-light
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try
But that was just a dream
Try, cry, fly, try
That was just a dream
Just a dream
Just a dream, dream
Thank you for posting the lyrics!
Ditto for me.
Tausend Dank für den Text. 😘😘😘😘😘🤩

These guys are an actual music group.
This is a timeless song. Amazing song
What is it about this song - it touches my soul, love it so much. The energy in this performance is off the charts. Love you Michael.
Yes. Me to tell me
Love it love him love it all
It is about a Catholic Priest who fall in love to a woman and then found himself in a big inner dilemma ....
"Losing my religion" is a souther term for being at the end of their rope
Oh my god, I can’t believe how excited the crowd was...!!!!! And boy Michael sure revelled in the excitement. As they begin to play, the crowd erupts and Michael looks over to Mike Mills with a huge grin on face. They certainly gave it their all and the crowd just couldn’t get enough of it. A standout performance from everyone that night, including the audience. It just doesn’t get any better than that. The finest performance ever..!!!!!!!!!
i was stood slightly to the right of centre and about 30 ft from Michael that night........ i have seen ALOT of live music in my time and this was by far the best concert i`ve ever witnessed , i was alone because i`d lost my friends but i didn`t care! i was surrounded by thousands of friends and we were witnessing musical history being made right there and it was beautiful . my god i wish i was 27 again
The crowd didn't sound very excited when the song started.
agreed. i saw REM in ny @ msg & the crowd was so lame it actually impeded the experience
new "yourkers"
Can never get enough of this song. I think I have played it thousands of times since it was first released.
guess, me too
As much as i love your passion, you really need to get out more :)
There’s something about this song that I find haunting beautiful!! I can’t seem to get it out of my head.🎶
I was 20 when I heard this sweet ballad for the first time. It remained with me wherever I went, whatever I did. Three decades later Losing My Religion didn't find a replacement. May this ever memorable song by REM live a thousand years!
What an amazing singer this guy is.
Absolutely fantastic
One of the best songs of all time
Great performance
I just discovered this song, this band. This one hit me like train, my life's in shambles right now and it's songs like this that make it a little better.

Life is worth living just to hear music like this :)
The Song has a dark painful melody and words, filled with story of his life stuck in a limbo between the love of his life, God and him self alone in the corner ...
What i love about this song is that Religion can refer to any sort of belief system or set of principles one may live by- and that is an eternal human choice/experience
It is relevant 150,000 years ago, now, and will be relevant at the expiration of humanity
His voice is insane. Sounds amazing live too.
Michael has magic in his voice. Everytime I listen, his voice makes me fly 💚
Alguém ouvindo em 2024, e triste por não ter mais músicas de qualidade hoje em dia?
Best melody's..90's always hit hard
Thank you Michael and crew, for putting my thoughts and feelings into words and music. Your group is very special and powerful, never forget that. Much love from Virginia, USA from a 41 year old man.
I heard it for the first time as a kid (90s), and even not understanding lyrics, changed me inside 4 ever and for good. Love them since then.
same.. I couldn’t have been more than 9 or 10 at the time. love this song forever and a day
I am very grateful to God for being born at that time and experiencing this poetry, this work of art, which I still cherish with love in the depths of my heart .... Feb / 2021

mind-blowing... playing a song for the 9000's time, and keeping it, making it (like always) original -- a true performance -- is what ART is...
