    This is something I would love to do, but I am somewhat physically disabled and getting old. I really enjoy seeing your finds out in the field! Keep it up, from your neighbor in the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina.

      There's so many rocks to pick up haha!! Any one of those feldspar chunks could have some amazing schiller and I'd never know unless I pick it up and look closer!!😁

    Nor rain, nor sleet, nor snow will keep you from rock-hounding. LOL. Winter is pretty tough rock-hounding where you are by the looks of it. Thanks for getting out there.

      This winter hasn't been too bad, it definitely could've been worse if there was more snow haha. It's nice to still have a few little spots to go to in the winter😁

      My goal is to find as many different minerals as I can and try to get a complete collection of everything in BC Canada. I can't wait for this summer, I should be finding a lot more minerals that I haven't shared on the channel yet!!😁

    I learn quite a lot watching your video. Few people get me to reach for my digital dictionary but it was a good exercise to look up adularescence. Thank you.

    • @NWRockExplorer

      There's always something new to learn!! Most of my favorite stones have light play and there is a name for each way that a stone plays with the light. Adularescence is definitely one of my favorites!!😁

    There is too much snow on the East Coast right now, making me anxious for some melt. Thanks for that great info about hematite and magnetite inclusions!! Didn't know that! Also gonna be checking out my feldspar specimens for aduralesence! Cheers!

    Is it common to find sunstone and moonstone together? It's neat to see you pull them out of that icy water. Oregon sunstones are found in the desert amongst the sagebrush, scattered all around, and there's a mine where you can pay to sift through what they dig to find larger stones. I like your forest setting much better! Thank you for sharing this cool adventure!

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks!! With this formation it is quite common to see sunstone and moonstone together, it is a orthoclase, albite mix which causes the Adularescence in the moonstone. I'm still learning new things about feldspar all the time, it's a pretty complicated group!!😁

    Hello 👋
    Hope you are safe and well !!
    Just a quick question - Did you go to a Canadian University to get your Degree in Geology - or is this just a hobby !! Your knowledge on your finds is very impressive !!
    Do you want to try and make a living with this, or - have you got your sights set on another career all - together ??
    Thanks 🙏
    Take care and stay safe 😷

      Thanks!! I've never attended any geology classes but I'd definitely love to in the future!! most of what I know comes from online research or talking to all the old timers!! I've been lucky enough for some prospectors to take me under their wing and teach me what they learned from years in the field.
      I would really like to make a living doing what I love, whether that be prospecting, lapidary, jewelry making, or just making UA-cam videos. I have so many different interests that I guess I'll have to see what sticks haha. This summer should be pretty busy and I have lots of plans to travel so I can make some more videos and I might even try to make some vlogs while I'm out and about😁

    Nice hematite 👍🏼 All the iron minerals I find are usually degraded to limonite. I guess the deposit you’re looking in is younger maybe. I dunno in Missouri it’s almost all rusted. No feldspar here either hardly 🤷🏻‍♂️ Nice finds. Rock on brotha 💎👀💪

    • @NWRockExplorer

    • @NWRockExplorer
      @NWRockExplorer  2 роки тому

      The schiller in this sunstone can be purple, pink, blue, gold, red, and sometimes is a metallic grey. The base color of the feldspar is a bit different it can vary from clear, pink, to red or sometimes even black😁
