Have received many questions regarding the radio device at 1:23. In the Soviet Navy, this device was known by sailors as the Серебряное печенье "Serebryanoye pechen'ye" (literally 'Silver Cookie'). When inserted into the radio system, the codes contained within would have to match codes previously transmitted to the Sub. In hilariously ironic fashion, the plastic code cards used to by LCC crews to launch ICBMs in the United States also came to be known as 'cookies.'
I am Russian. In the 1959 America start doing George Washington class ballistic missile submarine. In our Russia (Soviet Union) we got our ballistic missile submarine only in 1960. K-19 had a lot of problems. She had only 3 missles. And missles can be launched only on surface. Range of ballistic missles was very small-650 km.
Due to megalomaniac fools like Putin and Trump we’ll have a nucleair WW3 on our hands shortly. Putin thinks the West will not retaliate when he uses nucleair arms. Putin keeps on making very bad decisions…. And Trump? He’s practically in bed with Putin but will make poorly informed and emotional decisions like we know him to do… God save us from such leaders….
The US subs were capable of underwater launch. The Soviets achieved it only on later generation subs and missiles. Much more discreet and survivable of course.
This film is about the Soviet Union's first nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine the infamous K-19, soon to become known as "Hiroshima".She was a "Hotel" class submarine with 3 ballistic missiles and 2 nuclear reactors. She famously had an incredibly nasty nuclear accident where one of the reactors went into meltdown and it was only stopped by the actions of volunteers linking the boat's water supply to the stricken reactor and that brought things back under control. But the entire submarine was heavily irradiated with radiation and some of the crew died slow horrible deaths and the rest had health problems later. The K-19 was considered jinxed and was involved in several accidents during her career and no one was sorry when she was finally retired and removed from service. This is actually a really good film, yes it's got Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson playing the captain and executive officer respectively but they're both absolutely brilliant and believable in their roles and when you see inside the K-19 they've got it all spot on; one other thing the film got absolutely right is how the Soviets were and did things.
To simplify the process, the 'Silver Cookie' frees the lockouts on the missile power systems. The launch keys enable the warhead activation sequence and allow for fueling of the missile.
Before Harrison Ford was playing as the President of the United States of America James Marshall from the movie Air Force One but now he's playing as the Soviet Submarine Captain from the movie K-19 The Widowmaker

sanKao sKo after all, everyone goes to a movie to read, right? And there are relatively few well known Russian speaking actors in the west, why should a movie hurt its chances of being popular by using unknown actors in a language 99.99% of its target audience doesn't speak. And that doesn't even take into consideration the increase in difficulty/cost of a movie in which it's possible the cast and crew can't all talk to each other or that even writing the movie becomes much more difficult Also, the Amazon is not in mesoamerica and they speak English in the US

The far larger and tougher Russian submarine Kursk was destroyed in 2000 by a fuel explosion of a faulty test torpedo (which set off other test and live torpedoes)...
