Joe my favorite part of this video is you talking about the pot plant, had me cracking up,lol. thanks for the videos, i look forward to them every week.
Hello from West Fargo North Dakota... I have to say in all the years I've watched your videos that was one of the most personable videos I've seen. My wife and I were watching and we felt like we actually knew you in this video. Great job as always and tell Melissa not to worry about flying... It's just like you said. Take care!
I hope you're feeling better now! The turkeys and birds are so adorable 😍! I don't have a garden so Touring you're garden made me happy! I really enjoyed this video! Thx for sharing! 🎉❤
I know right? Melissa loves them and I told her last night: "I hate to say it, but its almost that time." They eat a ton of food and it is almost time for the freezer.
Great video Joe. Each year the garden amazes me. Funny, I was just thinking how you should try growing some of the devil’s lettuce…and then I see this. Youre right, it is fun to grow….so Ive been told. 😉 Anyhow, take care and thanks for sharing.
Down here is SW Virginia, our garden is coming to a close. We had a normal spring and then our last rain came at the end of May. We then went 5 weeks without any measurable rain. You can water a garden enough to keep it alive but it is usually not cost effective to give it enough water for it to really prosper! Our Kale came in first and we froze up a lot of pint bags for soup and stews this winter. Next came the onions that we pickled them for tacos and burritos. Our corn went very fast. I pulled 2 ears as test ears and it was a little early. A week later was prime and we put up 15 pints of corn. One week later the corn was not as sweet and we knew it was past prime. We pulled all of it and put up an additional 16 pints of corn for soups and such. The tomatoes are real late due to the drought. They are starting to come in but the cooler nights and shorter days might mean a low production year for them. I am glad that I don't have to live off the garden like my great grandparents did!
It makes you appreciate what your grandparents had to go through each year to survive. Sounds like you at least had a harvest, some people lost everything this year, or did not even bother to plant.
Hope you're feeling better Joe by time we get the next video and I had a good chuckle with your pot plant which looks to be doing well. Here in Canada lots of people grow their own pot since the Government took over the regulation and pricing of pot shops it can get expensive and once you find something you like you probably won't be able to buy it again once the strain has sold out. Anyway I wish Melissa a safe flight to Louisiana and looking forward to the cows coming home.
Taking a thoughtful look at the garden, diving into farmhouse cooking, and picking blackberries are all wonderful ways to connect with the land and enjoy its bounty. Your attention to these details and your excitement for the upcoming addition of cows reflect a deep appreciation for both farming and homegrown experiences. It’s inspiring to see your dedication to nurturing and savoring every part of your journey. And I am Floating Village Life, Hit follow and let's explore together!
Her "veggie bake" recipe and video is on her channel. "As The Rooster Crows." Here is the link to that video. ua-cam.com/video/ZrUJmaMHsAg/v-deo.htmlsi=gPfuHl13GxqZPv57
Beauty! And really Joe how you gonna butcher those birds? They love you 🥰 Hey, that pot plant could be a nice barter for something. It looks good but are there any flowers? My garden is way behind, too. I put some wire fencing over the top this year and next year I am going to put some greenhouse plastic over the top so I can stop freaking out when it threatens to hail 😁 Safe travels, Melissa!
Are feel like temperatures for past 8 weeks have been 106° to 114° with humidity from 76% to 96%. Worst summer in 41 years. Hello from Siesta Key Florida
Up here it has been a very cold and miserable summer as far as summers go. A real disappointment. We have not even had a 90 degree day, not a single one.
Acorn squash is great if you cut in half and scrape out the innards then add butter and a dash of salt and cinnamon and bake it about an hour, you may have to slice the bottom of the squash to make it stay level but that is wonderful cooking. You have to try it that way, it's very southern but tastes delicious. TN cooking here but it's a family tradition.
58, 59 degrees for a high in August blows my mine. I'm jealous! We are hot in the south (90's). I'm looking forward to Fall and deer hunting down here in Georgia. It's the busiest time for me with videos.
Make it into butter and make brownies. Half a brownie each and Svenghoulie will never be the same !! And you might actually sleep past 2:30 Joe. Just sayin. Take care
My brother and I had so much trouble with the blue lake bush beans that we quit buying them a few years ago. Was always a massive producer for us but we had the same germination issues.
Around here we mow the blackberries down, they attract birds and rodents that then attract snakes trying to eat the birds and rodents. Nothing more freaky than seeing a rattle snake at eye level
Joanie always has when we can not watch her closely. Annie needs one now also. They like to eat cat shit and chase the chickens. If we muzzle them than can not get at either. If we are just out sitting and can watch them it is not needed. Chunky never needs one, he is a good boy.
He is still here, but after his cancer surgery last year, he has slowed down. He is an old dog as far as Rotties are concerned. His most favorite thing to do was run with the buggy rides. He would bark and jump around and just loved it. Now he will sometimes come with but not with the same enthusiasm and sometimes he comes out but just lays on the front deck waiting for us to get back. Joanie too is quite old for a Pittie and has slowed down a lot. We got Chunky from a Rottweiler rescue in Texas, we had him transported up here and the months before we got him he had been hit by a car and had many broken bones. That is when the rescue got him. We had to wait months for him to heal and have the surgeries etc, before he could come to his new home. He is 100% Melissa's mommas boy, he lives to see her and wines every day when he sees her drive up the driveway after work. Because of getting hit by the car he has arthritis and he has a hard time getting up off the floor. He is on pain medication and Thyroid medication twice a day. He is well cared for and well loved but he is getting old. I do not think he could be with a better person than Melissa, That girl would give her life for an animals life and I can assure you Chunky would give his before anyone ever got through the door going after her. He is a really great dog.
Dubon Petit Pois (French for small peas) Make a roux and add some onions once your roux reaches desired color then add the peas and season. Serve over rice. Love me some “roux peas”.
I get buzzed by hummingbirds almost every day but not much for bees. I guess with the bees, I will get a better assessment in September when the nights get real cold and the afternoon heat brings them out like crazy (usually) when they are getting their last food before winter.
Melissa makes a LOTTTTT of jam. We probably have 100 jars of jam at least down in the basement. Yes she makes blackberry and many others. She loves to mix things and we try it. Peach jalapeno I think was her last jam a few weeks ago. The canner stays in the kitchen for the whole summer.
Just the 3 of us here but we will be eating that most of this week. It is Tuesday now and most of it is gone. On Thursday I will probably just be eating a ham or turkey lunch meat sandwich for dinner.
That skin was just too tough. I think a pressure cooker would turn everything to mush. I have never cooked it that way though so who knows? It might work well.
You need a small beehive for honeybees. It would help a lot in your garden. Do you don’t need to do anything just put the hive there clean them out, but
Joe growin pot 😂 that was the highlight of my day haha
😂
That was funny, laughed out loud, really loud.
Best part of the garden lol 😂
He's a regular guy!
Joe my favorite part of this video is you talking about the pot plant, had me cracking up,lol. thanks for the videos, i look forward to them every week.

I was just thinking the same thing.
I also was wondering where chunky was see the other two dogs

Beautiful garden. We have our freeze dryer going 24/7 during garden harvest season.
That’s a lot of garden holy moly
I can’t believe how big those turkeys are already 😂
I know right? Melissa loves them and I told her last night: "I hate to say it, but its almost that time." They eat a ton of food and it is almost time for the freezer.
Great looking garden Joe, with all the messed up weather
Nice cauliflower
I hope you feel better
The way you digging in those plants they are thornless. I have Blackberries on my place but they have thorns and suck to pick
Ours do also, it does suck.

Weird year for growing things, u always have so much going. I’m envious!
Petite Pois peas maybe what you were talking about. Ca c'est bon!!! Thanks for the video.

I remember my mom making sauerkraut. She put it in Red wing crocks. I would grab a bowl full for an after school snack.

I live in the northwest Catskill mountains, and my garden did great this year.
Please ask Melissa to share that broccoli bake recipe! Looks delicious!

Live a farm life and enjoy it
Ground Cherry? Awesome garden 👍 Enjoyed
you always do a great job on your garden you should try to make blueberry wine my fav
Freeze dry the garden video @ As the 🐓 crows. Long time subscriber 2nd time commenting!❤😂
oooh dill is my fav
After a summer with 90+ degree days I am so glad to see the 70's during the day and 50's at night
Those were nice butternut squash. We used to eat a lot of those in upstate New York.
Beauty! And really Joe how you gonna butcher those birds? They love you 🥰 Hey, that pot plant could be a nice barter for something. It looks good but are there any flowers? It should start budding very soon. Now that the days are getting shorter and the nights getting cooler, it will trigger its need to reproduce.
I love black berries my parents would bring them home from Canada west coast huge berries and make jams delicious
Joe, do have a winter forecast for your home and the cabin?
Nothing yet. Some say it will be a harsh winter others say it will be mild. We need to get into fall before they can zero in I think.
The garden is looking great! And Lemongrass is a natural mosquito repellent, I guess.
Will you be able to extend your growing season with the cover over the garden?
Yes we will.
Acorn squash is great if you cut in half and scrape out the innards then add butter and a dash of salt and cinnamon and bake it about an hour, you may have to slice the bottom of the squash to make it stay level but that is wonderful cooking. and flying into any Gulf region airport in August weather has an undeniably high pucker factor. Safe travels!
58, 59 degrees for a high in August blows my mine. I'm jealous! We are hot in the south (90's). I'm looking forward to Fall and deer hunting down here in Georgia. It's the busiest time for me with videos.
I was thinking the same thing today; the days are getting shorter. Honestly, I don't mind at all. I know I sleep better in fall and winter.
We had such a cold summer, I wish summer would last longer.
Weed and its derivatives is good medicine helps all kinds of ailments . Hope you harvest it right and see what happens . Grow 4 next year lol.
Call me when that plant buds out. It's the only pain relief I use.
Blackberries are great!! Commercial grocery stores are getting ridiculous on berry prices.
Make it into butter and make brownies. Half a brownie each and Svenghoulie will never be the same !! And you might actually sleep past 2:30 Joe. Just sayin. Take care
Like I said, I have consumed more that one person should have. Lol. I have no want to do it again. Very fun to grow though.
My brother and I had so much trouble with the blue lake bush beans that we quit buying them a few years ago. Was always a massive producer for us but we had the same germination issues.
It has really sucked the last 4 or 5 years. I was surprised that they did good this year.
Love cucumbers on pumpernickel cream cheese garlic salt try it
The summer squash with the verigated leaves need to be picked much earlier, if you let them get big like that there not good.
Around here we mow the blackberries down, they attract birds and rodents that then attract snakes trying to eat the birds and rodents. Nothing more freaky than seeing a rattle snake at eye level
Considering the cooler days earlier this year the plants look great! I don't know anything about growing pot but it looks healthy! :)
I've been noticing your dogs wearing muzzles. That seems to be a new development. Is that because of the newest addition to the pack?
Joanie always has when we can not watch her closely. Annie needs one now also. They like to eat cat shit and chase the chickens. If we muzzle them than can not get at either. If we are just out sitting and can watch them it is not needed. Chunky never needs one, he is a good boy.
@@NorthernSeclusion Ahh. Makes sense.
you should buy giant pumkins the secret to them is pinch the flowers off ecept one and all the energy gos to that flower
I have also been missing Chunky

My German Shorthair is 13 this November. Its sad to see them get old & tired. Sorry to here Chunky has aged so much.
@@NorthernSeclusion Wow. Thank you for sharing that. Awesome.
Keep an eye on your corn for some reason the raccoons will know when it's ready to pick and they will get it before you do they know
That is why I have the garden fenced. If that does not keep them out I have other "means" at my disposal. Lol. Did I say disposal? Lol.
The peas are petite pois French meaning small pea. I love the ones in cans
Those are the only type Melissa would use in Louisiana. She always had a bunch of cans of them in the pantry.
Dubon Petit Pois (French for small peas) Make a roux and add some onions once your roux reaches desired color then add the peas and season. Serve over rice. Love me some “roux peas”.
Bees, same here but I see them on the clover.
Oddly here in eastern South Dakota we saw no bees, hummingbirds or butterflies all summer long.
I get buzzed by hummingbirds almost every day but not much for bees. I guess with the bees, I will get a better assessment in September when the nights get real cold and the afternoon heat brings them out like crazy (usually) when they are getting their last food before winter.
Are you going to be finishing the green house? If so will you start your garden early next year?
She will be able to start plants in there earlier yes. We should get the plastic on it yet this fall.
That’s oriental spinach Sir, It’s good to steam or sauté with onions and garlic only.
Does Melissa make blackberry jam or jelly. Great on English muffins.
Ground cherries when they fall off they a ripe very good are the lanterns.
You gotta listen to 94.9 Saturday 5:00-3:00 for the Swamp Pop show.
The Sunday show with the French swamp is just as good. Poppin and a toppin. I listen quite often and comment on its facebook page also.
Maybe you can harvest the pot and have a little to try. And im sure you can barter with it.
Thar plant your letting grow is called a button weed. Use to have to go out in my grandpas
garden and pull those things out.
It's 92 here at 5:32 in the evening in Brewton Alabama
What Army do you feed? Wonder who you feed? Just curious, Love Your Guys content, just curious...
Just the 3 of us here but we will be eating that most of this week. It is Tuesday now and most of it is gone. On Thursday I will probably just be eating a ham or turkey lunch meat sandwich for dinner.
Would it help to use a pressure cooker for the hard zucchini? It usually softens stuff up nicely.
That skin was just too tough. I think a pressure cooker would turn everything to mush. I have never cooked it that way though so who knows? It might work well.
Gumbo that’s all I listen too the radio station is about 3 minutes from my house.
I love the Swamp pop on Saturdays and the french swamp pop on Sundays. Poppin and a toppin!!!
Maybe yall should harvest the pot and preserve for medicinal
Now that it is legal here, there really is no fun in having it. Lol.
You need a small beehive for honeybees. It would help a lot in your garden. Do you don’t need to do anything just put the hive there clean them out, but
They had honeybees a couple years ago. They did not make it.
We had 2 hives, they both died off. It is really hard up here this far north to keep a hive.
Woohoo!
we had them down in alabama again. Anddd I missed it. (northern lights)
Yellow squash looks like summer squash. Green is zucchini.
The tags that came with the plants you see in the garden said "yellow zucchini."
