- Father and sports teacher Hughie was diagnosed with giant cell-rich osteosarcoma - a kind of bone cancer - after breaking his hip in May 2020. He was treated successfully with surgery and chemotherapy. However, shortly after the birth of his second son, Hughie’s cancer returned and he died in April 2022. I lost my mum to cancer eventually…I say eventually as she soldiered through many, many years on and off going through chemo and radiation treatment. It was the most awful experience more so for her but also for us as a family as we cycled through the emotional highs and lows of it all. To say I completely understand when someone becomes a shell of themselves is an understatement. All credit to this lady remaining strong and keeping her beloved husband’s memory alive with her darling children. It can’t be easy at all

Just awful how it takes a hold of some, especially young. I’m tired of doctors still living in the era of cancer is only seen in old people, more screening from a younger age is a must.
