  • In this video I review my Toro TimeMaster 30" mower. I purchased this mower in 2015 and it has been a great mower over the years despite the down falls of the repairs that have been made to the mower. I will start off by saying that this mower is not a commercial unit so I know some of the repairs that I have done would not have been necessary had I purchase the commercial version. With that being said let's dive in.
    This mower costs about $1000 dollars which for some people may be a lot of money. The question of the price comes down to what you are doing with the machine and would you like to save time. If you own a lawn care business and you need a mower that is more productive than a traditional 21" mower, than this would be a good option and the money made with it can far out way the cost. On the other hand if you are a homeowner that has a medium size yard and wants to spend less time cutting the grass, then this mower is also a great option over buying a riding mower from Lowes or Home Depot for 2-3 thousand.
    Toro has supposedly fixed some of the smaller issues such as the pulleys, engine HP, transmission durability and some other things over time but I believe the one thing that then have not addressed in the homeowner version (commercial version addressed with new HD model for 2019) is the transmission strength. If you try and push this mower up a hill the transmission does not have the torque to pull the machine up the hill.
    Pros and Cons:
    Pros:
    Good Cut Quality
    Fast
    Lighter than Commercial Version
    More Affordable than Commercial Version
    Cons:
    Poor Wet Grass Cut Quality
    Not Good for Going Uphill
    Could Be Built a little Stronger for $1000
    If you are interested in this mower you can see them at your local Home Depot or you local Toro Dealer. You can also get more information about this mower from the Toro Website at the link below:

    Great review! I'm a homeowner owner of a 2015 TM30. Mow a 1/2 acre. Back yard is super thick. Love TM30 for maintaining my lawn; best ever I've used by far; fast and quality work and Personal Pace is fantastic. Super easy to use mower. Gas tank is just enough; new model is said to go through gas quicker with the bigger engine. That's a show stopper for me, because what's the point of saving time mowing when your using that saved time filling up during a mowing session. Very compact and light for what it cuts (which I think is what leads to its weaknesses as shown in this review); can turn it just like a 22" using the PP while tuning making it very agile for a 30" cut mower, and can trims even better except to the front of the mower since the deck is wider than the wheel width. Made with quality parts for a home owner level mower, but it should be for a grand. Starts on the first or second pull for 3 years unless a hot engine sometimes takes a few more. Not had issues with stress fractures, but only about 150 hours. Having Toro is good, because I like dealing with dealers as opposed to the big box stores. Like stated here, it is fast or can be super slow when you need it to be. Can't mulch once June arrives. Clogs up too easily. That's fine; prefer to side discharge anyway. Bagging is a hassle with any mower, but works as well as can be with this mower. I've had more issues than this reviewer with clogging deck. In my back yard, once mid summer arrives, it clogs up every way except for strapping the side plate up or bagging. I generally just strap up the side plate, but then that shoots out grass on the house and cars, etc when near the edges and one can't keep turning the grass to shoot in during the summer because it will pile up making it even harder to mow. So it is a issue that has to be dealt with since the chute constantly clogs up. Beyond that, the chute design will fall off in places like mowing in ditch lines. A few minor issue with a spring tensioner during warranty and one blown up pulley just this past year, so I wonder if it's more of a time wear item instead of hours. Issues have been minor and fairly easy to fix considering it's a belt driven deck. It's not going to have zero issues like a shaft-drive regular push mower, but it's worth a grand, and I'd buy another if the tank were bigger for more run time. I wouldn't touch a Turf Master if I were a commercial mower. I could buy two TimeMasters for one TurfMaster, and so if I needed a push mower, that's what I'd do.

    When cutting tall grass, I don't use the side deflector adapter just wedge the door and blow cut away from uncut areas. If extreamly tall, just let the bag door blow grass on boots, let sun dry the cut and mulch in later. Also, I've had good results putting lubricant on all pulley bearing shafts. Own 2 older TM without any major issues. I love jogging(running) while cutting grass, no problem getting up hills. Mower keeps up to my unlimited pace and is adjustable for slower self propelled pace. Excellent mower, Go Toro.

    My engine bolts worked loose too, no biggie just tighten back up, also I found it's better not to use that crappy shute insert, just bungie the shute lid wide open, works great, get a short bungie and hook it to the muffler cage.

      Unfortunately I lost the engine bolts so I had to get new ones. I have switched to the bungee cord method as I have messed up the second side plate and I am not purchasing another one.

    • @scottwalker19
      @scottwalker19  Рік тому

      If you were planning to use it a lot, I would say buy a new one. If you can find somebody that will give you a decent deal on one that has not been used as much then you could potentially go that route. If you're only talking about a $200 difference you might as well go with one that has a fresh warranty and you know that it does not have any hours accumulated on it.

    If you wax the inside of the deck it helps a lot in wet conditions. It does clump up still but not as much or as fast

    My experience with this one was not good. I had both this engine and the upgraded one.... Bogged down tremendously. Not usable at all. This mower does have a nice cut, but mulching even light weekly lawns would kill the engine like I was trying to cut a months growth. Side discharge is a joke like it is on any 21" cut mower it does fine for a stripe or 2 then it creates this huge bulge clump that clogs the chute.

      I think maybe a fraction of these were torqued up better because some , very few, reviewers liked these. Most reviews were negative.

      Yeah the one I have can cut super tall grass and mulch it perfectly without really bogging down. Just doesn’t have the self propulsion it needs on hills.

      I believe all of the Toro TimeMasters come with a Briggs & Stratton engine. I think the commercial TurfMaster comes with the Honda engine. The prices for the mowers are online. However they start around $1000 for the residential model and go up to about $2500 for the Commercial models

      No problem! I like the mower for the same reasons, it is very difficult to find a mower that can do all three in the 30 inch range. I have looked at other options but they are very expensive for the same set up as far as mulching, bagging and side discharge on top of the mower cost.

      They’re just not feasible or practical. They don’t bag or mulch without some goofy attachments. They are very bulky and heavy, they will wear you out using them. They’re just too big for the small stuff and too small for the big stuff. I tried them, but they just make no sense.

      I've got the fw15. I wanted to hear someone else complaints on it. My biggest complaint was the lever to make it go, my thumb / hand was locked up halfway through any yard. Hey I've owned these Toro 30s ... 2 of them, even with the upgraded engine.... Junk. There's more negative reviews and did like the ferris better.

    I've never use that side discharge chute. I just open the side discharge flap wide open with a bungee cord and she throws that grass a great distance for a much better distribution. It's a beast.

    • @scottwalker19
      @scottwalker19  5 років тому

      I agree. Just opening the side flap does disperse the grass better but sometimes it can get a little crazy in smaller areas or next to houses or cars I do not want to hit.
