Seeing video uploads from ficarra classic just make me happy. It's like seeing that one cool uncle you only see on birthdays and he always tells the best stories that turn every other guy there into little boys listening to the stories.
OMG!!! It's Kelly Telfer!!! Matt and John, good to see you guys! Imagine my surprise when I saw Kelly is doing an art car... an ART CAR!!! 😲 This was a GREAT video to start a weekend. Thx! - PS Hope to see you guys again soon!
Love the way both turned out! Rolling art and unique expressions that really makes them stand out from the usual "red" Porsche. Go Ficarra and Matt, keep moving forward!
Brilliant concept. Wonderful execution. Terrific overall plan. I con only imagine what work was involved. And the scope of effort if this was all airbrushed. 😮
I've loved the 928 since I was a little boy in the 80's. I whole heartily approve of the beautiful purple and green car with the 70's racing pedigree as shown at 4:44. Although I don't care for the silly checkered "Pasha" car at all. So glad to see someone doing what I would do if I had the means. Thank you.
Hi John, if you could finagle a flat 6 in there it would be unique...either a Mezger or...how about a Subaru? (EZ30 Turbo should work) That would wind up the Porsche purists something fierce :) Of course the torque tube modification to the rear 'box would be "interesting" Or you could go totally insane, chop the back to pieces and just shove in a complete 911 drivetrain for the ultimate mid/rear engined 928. I'd pay to see that!
The 16 valve engines are non-interference. The 1985 and up engines were 32 Valve engines and are interference engines and will bend the valves if a timing belt slips of breaks.
Yup, I think some of the Euro 16 valve engines may be interference, and some of the later US 16 valve engines might run close to interference, but not like the 32 valves.
With John on putting a Porsche engine back on the car. Supercharger would be an interesting touch. Hope the clear takes, because I love the paint job on both!
Definitely looking forward to seeing the clear coat to help smooth out the brushstrokes. That’s the one downside of hand painting, or I’d be doing it to my own car.
I think you should put a cayenne v6 turbo. I think they were vr6 based…. There is good aftermarket support for it because they put them into Golfs and it’s lighter upfront 😉. And as much horsepower you need. Turn up the boost!
Love the videos! I'm an aircooled Porsche nut but it's still pleasant to see people doing fun things with the watercooled cars. Personally I think you should stick with the Porsche engine + supercharger combo. Should let the car keep its heritage while giving it more performance at the same time. Whatever you do, I'm looking forward to checking it out!
Instead of LS swapping, use a 4.3 Chevy. You can do TBI or other options that will let it be tuned a little. Given the size and weight of the porsche, I think it would be a quite fun powertrain.
Engine swap thats becoming a bit more common is the VW 07K 2.5 5 cylinder. Easy 200-ish HP in NA form, but add a turbo along with some supporting hardware and you can basically pick whatever triple digit HP number you'd like.
The Pasha cat deserves, needs, must have a Porsche engine in it! Yet, it is the Pasha art car with Pasha interior so of course it needs something that says special Porsche. Thus the era correct supercharger is the only answer to the question. And honestly you are the person to do it correct and pay the homage to Porsche the Pasha 928 art car needs. Make it happen!!!!
If it was my project I'd go with a Porsche V8 , but a later gen one like out of a Cayenne or a Panamerica something with around 500hp like a 4.8 twin turbo which is more than even the latest model 928. Of course I've been working on these cars since most of them were new.
Also, since you seem open to external input, an engine swap with Jared Pink could be a win-win. Anyway, really enjoy your content and long may you continue Sir
Noooooo! Not an LS!!! Love the supercharger idea, like alot! Or if you must swap, how about a V10? Dodge or Ford both good ideas. Or, if funds are not problematic, theres always Lambo...
I just really want to see you supercharge one of your many 928's... then I want to see it race my old 1980 Paxton supercharged 911SC and my 79' 930. If i get rich enough I'll call. Please don't LS it. Good luck in all your endeavors.
I love it. The 928, whatever its virtues, is never going to be a highly valuable car such that there is any great value to keeping it "original". So, why not resto-mod and put wild wraps on it and such? The Hippie livery is great.
Everytime someone mentions ls swap, im like, oh, thats another one of this boring swaps (they everywhere, its getting dull af)... my vote on supercharger route
you should like.....put porsche flat 6 in it with a turbo or supercharger do it do it you want to cmooon doooo it force yourself to do it make it happen imagine with 6 itbs 8,000 rpm with a whine, doooooo iiiiit
Clearly you’ve never met him, Christopher is one of the coolest, most wholesome people I’ve ever met, and I met John Ficarra so that’s saying something!
Please don't get lazy and do an ls swap!! So basic and overdone! If it's going to be swapped, I say find something exotic and German to keep with the lineage.

John, you really need to do a video about the history of shadow racing That is all
Totally agree with you on making sure everything is cleaned and at least preserved. It takes just a couple minutes with a wire wheel.
Love the way both turned out! Rolling art and unique expressions that really makes them stand out from the usual "red" Porsche. Go Ficarra and Matt, keep moving forward!
Christopher is one of those guys who will drop me a line or vice versa, just to see how things are- my blue heeler loves the man!
Brilliant concept. Wonderful execution. Terrific overall plan. I con only imagine what work was involved. And the scope of effort if this was all airbrushed. 😮
The biggest regret of my life: NOT buying the "This can be red" Ficarra t-shirt. :-(
Now available on my store!
@@FicarraClassic Ordered! Thank you. Now, what was the next biggest regret of my life?!
Second! Let’s go Ficarra Classics!
Hey John, thanks for the shop tour and the back story on your two amazing builds. I really appreciate what you do.
I've loved the 928 since I was a little boy in the 80's. I whole heartily approve of the beautiful purple and green car with the 70's racing pedigree as shown at 4:44. Seeing the hippy car in the background of other videos, I just thought it was really cool. Learning that Christopher rattle canned that blew my mind!

Yeah he's got it backwards, regardless its good to get your timing belt done.
Only the 4.5l s non interference.
Thats it, John is going to make me buy a 928 and LS swap it
Yes! Build off! People want to see Wizard vs Ficarra 928s!
WOW!!!! That is so awesome, kudos for letting the artists do this!
TWO of my favorites TOGETHER! I get so giddy when I see new Ficarra content!
Some fine 928's ya' got there.
So cool. 😉 I look forward to seeing the Safari 928 when it's done.
Two of my favorite story tellers in one place. Bonus.
Outstanding
Dang I started this video thinking that Christopher would be perfect for this!! And here he is! Car looks awesome, Chris!
Incredible work. Love it!
Put a C4 corvette Lt5 in it 😈
Thanks for the video and the hippie 928. BTW, Alexander Calder's studio was in Roxbury, Conn., about 30 miles south of Lime Rock Park.
15:27 Sweet Corolla!
John, keep the rebuilt engine NA, and put some hotter camshafts, maybe ITBs!
Imagine that with a lumpy idle, and a crazy top end!!
John, put Barra innit, Aussies will love you.
I LOVE them both, but a little more partial toward the Hippie version.
I think you should put a cayenne v6 turbo. I think they were vr6 based…. There is good aftermarket support for it because they put them into Golfs and it’s lighter upfront 😉. And as much horsepower you need. Turn up the boost!
If you want a powerful 928 motor, you need to speak with Greg Brown at Precision Motorwerks in SoCal. Hands down the best solution.
Straaaange. To each their own though. I'm happy for you.
Please, NOT a LS swap ! Anything but !
when/where will you be selling these??!
Please please please put the Porsche motor back in. There have been so many cut up. I love the supercharger idea.
Love the videos! I'm an aircooled Porsche nut but it's still pleasant to see people doing fun things with the watercooled cars. Personally I think you should stick with the Porsche engine + supercharger combo. Should let the car keep its heritage while giving it more performance at the same time. LS scmeles. The stock engine with a centrifugal blower would be 1000% cooler, and period correct, as you mentioned.
Instead of LS swapping, use a 4.3 Chevy. You can do TBI or other options that will let it be tuned a little. Given the size and weight of the porsche, I think it would be a quite fun powertrain.

That's a really interesting idea! John could even come buy my retired 09 Jetta for a doner!
Use basic modeling clear coat like Tamiya gloss clear. It works on every acrylic paint, at least I couldn't find one that wasn't workung with it.
Did you see the 928 with the Toyota V12 in it? I think it was in Texas and an old video on YT. Sounded insane, I think it was out of a Century.
Meke one slant 6 and one diesel
The Pasha cat deserves, needs, must have a Porsche engine in it! Yet, it is the Pasha art car with Pasha interior so of course it needs something that says special Porsche. Thus the era correct supercharger is the only answer to the question. And honestly you are the person to do it correct and pay the homage to Porsche the Pasha 928 art car needs. Make it happen!!!!
What is it with the hippie livery?! Been seeing it everywhere as of late, absolutely love it!
If it was my project I'd go with a Porsche V8 , but a later gen one like out of a Cayenne or a Panamerica something with around 500hp like a 4.8 twin turbo which is more than even the latest model 928. Of course I've been working on these cars since most of them were new.

Toyota non vvt 4.7 2uz from 1st gen tundra or lexus gx470, or Subaru 3.6 flat six, or Maserati V8..
They really do look fantastic! Does anyone know historically what sort of input, if any, the manufacturers gave the artists?
Is there a reason you neglected to mention or show the Esther Mahlangu BMW art car from South Africa?
Wow, I never realized how wide one of these 4.5L V8 engines were.
This can be red
Make that original 928 engine a turbo and if possible a twin turbo :-D
I would love to see a supercharger build
John, ? Porches on Prospect?
La Jolla Concourse d Elegance.
Probably too late, but a Porsche cup car engine would be really cool 😅
Maybe next do a tribute car in the Pink Pig scheme
What kind of supercharger
Hi John, please rebuilt the engine and put a turbo of a 911 turbo on it? 🙂
Noooooo! Not an LS!!! Love the supercharger idea, like alot! Or if you must swap, how about a V10? Dodge or Ford both good ideas. Or, if funds are not problematic, theres always Lambo...
Original motor and supercharger
Awesome!
I wanna do an art car.
supercharged coyote swap!
I just really want to see you supercharge one of your many 928's... then I want to see it race my old 1980 Paxton supercharged 911SC and my 79' 930. If i get rich enough I'll call. Please don't LS it.
Good luck in all your endeavors.
you should put a Mercedes om606 turbo diesel in your 928
Isn't a Ford Coyote engine about the same size?
Porsche engine with supercharger!
LS swap , DO IT
This guy gets it 😂
Blown Porsche motor please
Please stay with the Porsche V8. I'd try to get more from the engine keeping it NA.
I love it. The 928, whatever its virtues, is never going to be a highly valuable car such that there is any great value to keeping it "original". So, why not resto-mod and put wild wraps on it and such? The Hippie livery is great.
Something flat planned should go in it.
First!
And I know that's an old trope. But I rarely if ever get to see videos posted as I'm on my phone.
Go with the original engine with a supercharger.
Everytime someone mentions ls swap, im like, oh, thats another one of this boring swaps (they everywhere, its getting dull af)... my vote on supercharger route
Lamborgini V12, Rover V8 or Mazda wankel. :D
you should like.....put porsche flat 6 in it with a turbo or supercharger do it do it you want to cmooon doooo it force yourself to do it make it happen imagine with 6 itbs 8,000 rpm with a whine, doooooo iiiiit
Maserati Quarteporte engine
Stick with the Porsche engine
That M1 is fuuuuuugly. Warhol is unbelievably overrated
When Christopher shows up is when I exit.
How come? Seems as if he is universally liked by most everyone. Is there something I missed recently?
Clearly you’ve never met him, Christopher is one of the coolest, most wholesome people I’ve ever met, and I met John Ficarra so that’s saying something!
Why? I mean I know John saying his full name constantly is annoying as fuck but that's got nothin to do with Chris lol
Please don't get lazy and do an ls swap!! So basic and overdone! If it's going to be swapped, I say find something exotic and German to keep with the lineage.
Please don't put a non-Porsche engine in it...
