  • Rich from Trapping Inc TV installs the Stability and turning enhancement pack for BRP REV-XU (STEP) from Qualipieces. The install is easy and straight forward, I had more trouble adjusting the suspension on the 2014 Skandic afterwards. I give a full review of my findings at the end.

    I have a Tundra Extreme so I can attest to how tippy they are. I however cant tell you how many times I squeezed that sled through things I shouldn’t have. I absolutely love how narrow it is. I find it’s only sketchy at high speeds which aren’t typically found on the trapline. The way I see it is if you want a wider sled then get the Expedition.

    • @TrappingIncTV
      @TrappingIncTV  5 років тому +1

      I'm glad you like it. This thing is sketchy on a trail at 30 km, nothing high speed about that! LOL

  • @aitkinpain

    Added the wideners last year and love them. They not only widen the ski stance but raise the front of the machine 2 inches for a better track attack angle in the deep snow, more weight on the skis which makes the machine turn better and much more stable. Really important on my tight trails. Well worth the money IMHO.

    • @TrappingIncTV

      How many miles have you put on the machine since then? Any wear and tear problems? I've only 400 miles on mine so far.

      @@TrappingIncTV Probably 500 of some really rough narrow trails. Last year without a decent trailer the machine was backed of my pickup to drop to the ground. If anything would have failed that would have been the time. No problems!

    Hey Rich excellent shows. I was wondering with the argo setup you have ,why you dont use it all winter.With me its all about staying dry ,warm and comfortable especially when your out all day. Their definately not as fast as a skidoo,but then again i didnt know trapping was a race

    • @TrappingIncTV
      @TrappingIncTV  5 років тому +2

      Its not a race but I only have a certain amount of time to check. For instance I'll start checking my line at 8:30 tonight. By the time I head home Sunday I'l have checked over 300 km (190 miles) of line. Throw in a little bit of good luck and video work and sleep gets in short supply in that time. I use the Argo as much and for as long as I can, tonight I'll do the short northern loop (63 km) in it and then tomorrow I'll get dressed up and switch 2 the snowmobile for the next 2 days. Cheers!

    Wondering if you'd recommend the widening kit to improve steering and decrease tippiness? I have a tundra 550 sport and find it somewhat tippy and difficult to turn in deep snow. I'm new to my sled, so maybe I have to learn how to ride it by leaning more.

    • @TrappingIncTV
      @TrappingIncTV  5 років тому

      Decrease tippiness is exactly why I did this and it helped a bunch. It will help the Tundra as well although the rider has more influence on the 440 pound Tundra than on the 680 Skandic.

      It made it more stable but it is harder on other components like your ski bushings things like that. It's not as good a solution as actually buying something with a sophisticated ski suspension. I still have this 2014 skandic and I have a 2018 Yamaha VK Pro 2. Which is best? Depends what you're doing. I like the Yamaha the most and so I drive at the most. I drive to scandic when conditions are a little on the edge and there might be some damage done

    How did you adjust the ski alignment? I have a 2014 Tundra extreme ( same year with same suspension) and it's pulling to the left. I can't find anywhere that shows how to adjust ski alignment on pogo-suspension and it's at least six weeks to get into the repair shop.

    • @TrappingIncTV
      @TrappingIncTV  3 роки тому +1

      Two things could be up here. You may have bent one of the pogo mounts pushing the ski back in reference to the other. The machine will want to turn on the short side. To align I use a long straight edge along the side of the track to the front of the ski. Measure from straight edge to ski center front and back of ski. I like the toe out 1/4" check other side. You adjust toe on the tie rods. Loosed jam nuts on both ends of tie rod and turn the rod in the direction needed to correct the alignment.

  • @Skinz907

    I ran those for a couple years but had to go back to standard unfortunately. The bushings that kept the skis from flopping would wear out in about 500 miles and then the skis would become floppy and start darting causing the machine to become more unstable than ever. Just too much weight at a weird angle. They need to make the kit with stronger bushings to replace the existing ones

      You are right about the bushings wearing out fast!

    • @Skinz907

      I just figured out why my bushings wore out. I did not adjust the limiter strap and suspension for the higher ski stance. This caused there to be a lot more weight and wear on my front end

      So far as I can tell they help stop the flipping problem I had but it certainly might be an alignment thing. When I checked after the install the alignment was over 4" toe in! I only wish I had checked that before I did the extensions.

    The whole idea of a narrow sled like the Tundra and Scandic is that you can get through places that a wider sled won't go. And also the tippiness allows you to throw the machine over when side hilling, creating a nice trail for later use. People need to learn how to ride them and understand the design, before they start whining about these things.

    • @TrappingIncTV
      @TrappingIncTV  5 років тому

      I'm glad you like your machine just the way it is! Here are my reasons for changing mine.
      The last feature that was important to me was the narrow ski stance of the Skandic and the tippiness! LOL I bought it IN SPITE of those factors. Narrow ski stance is meaningless on my trap line for maneuverability anywhere 34" will go so will 40" it just isn't a real thing. While you certainly could lean over a 480 pound Tundra with a 14" track and 32" ski stance, I can't budge the 650 pound Skandic with the 20" track and 34" stance. Not even close. I've had lots lecture me on how you have to be on the throttle and utilizing track speed and rotation .... blah, blah blah! I'm always pulling a 10 1/2' toboggan and about 200 pounds. Side hilling is a silly dream! The first time that big old toboggan pendulums down behind you and and pulls that machine over on you the lesson is learned. I creep along in low gear day after day. I have 10,000 km on the machine and I'm pretty familiar with what it will and won't do. If I were to buy another skidoo it would be the expedition now that they have high and low manual gearbox and wide tracks and great big W I D E ski stance! LOL Cheers!.

      @@TrappingIncTV Actually i don't have a Tundra or Scandic. I did have a 2017 Arctic Cat XT GS, and that's one heavy machine! Over 800 lbs fully fueled. Great work sled, and i do take it in the bush, which is hilly and mounds everywhere, and i takes all I've got to get that thing over so it doesn't go where i don't want it too! I'd like a Tundra so i can break a trail for the Bearcat. It's much lighter and nimbler than the cat. Get too steep of a hill and the cat doesn't want to go up. the entire point behind the narrow stance is to make it way more maneuverable at speeds under Mach 1. you have to put less effort into shifting your weight and pulling the sled on an edge....in other words you can get your weight on one ski very easily and turn in small spaces. The reason behind the super wide stance of todays sleds are due to the big increases in power over the years and the big increase in more extreme backcountry mountain riding. Those sleds are a bitch to maneuver in the woods. Anyone that doesnt get that doesnt understand how to ride a sled. I would rather have a narrow stance Skidoo tundra over anything else. Of course I dont care to spend my time ripping at high speeds. The tundra stance is perfect for a working sled.
