The most photographed are still the standard. symmetrical bone structure, smooth skin, young. The camera likes those features. The photogenic are still just models. Simply put.....it’s not new or different. The “styles” are the only thing that changes but the models are still cookie cutter....even if they shave their eyebrows.
Yeah, that will always be the case. Fortunately because of social media, everyone is seeing their own selves being represented more widely. Rather than just another Maria Sharapova lookalike.
yes because natural aesthetics play a role in what humans find attractive and pleasing to look at. The canvas doesn't change, but the character, message and overall style changes. I feel like the point in this is to break social standards which prohibit self-expression, meaning the possibility for every single individual to DARE to act in a way they want without fearing certain consequences. And I think that changing one's own appearance in an unusual way and bringing this positivity and kindness to whatever situation one enters really can have a positive impact on people and, in conclusion, society.
I mean that's still a step right? Really no need to find a fault in everything. At least cookie cutter isn't just white and skinny (lean for men) anymore. Well it still sort of is but thats changing rapidly
People constantly, randomly proclaiming they "love themselves" is a red flag for someone with mental issues. It's a coping mechanism. This girl even said so in plain English at the beginning of the video.
Rhys F. And then you gotta wonder just how much of this ish is fueled by drugs...or maybe none at all, but most the time they play some role in some people’s lives.
i think people like this have had some type trauma in their childhood that makes them crave attention by any means necessary and for some the more extreme the better. i've seen some vids of people like this when they get a little older and start to mature into the real world of adult hood regret everything they have done because instead of being seen as an edgy dumb kid they now look like irresponsible worthless adults then the drug addiction kicks in hard core and now they want to commit suicide because they feel the world is against them and they cant fit in ect.. lol i dont know about all that but nothing positive can come from this in the long run im sure.

I am all for expression and self love but this video doesn’t depict this group well. Based on this video it gives off a ‘you can’t sit with us’ vibe like you aren’t cool if you’re not like us 😫😫
Yes Princess. The boys and girls at school will love you. Oh your pretty hair curls. I do like them. I used to bounce them, if only you knew how cute you were, DEMANDING respect in your seat. You got SUCH a moodie when you were teased.
That's because it is a niche. I know people covered in tattoos up to the skull down to the finger tips who have a certain attitude but hey, to have that much ink and wear it with strength on a daily basis, you need attitude.
been following her on ig for a minute now and never knew her real name (and honestly don't think i even knew her voice). happy she's as cool as i would hope.
People that look like Jazzelle represent a very small percent of NYC these days, so if anyone gets the idea NYC is the US/western version of Harajuku, it's absolutely not. Even trendy neighborhoods are still mostly locals, regular looking working people, yuppies, and more mainstream/parent-friendly hipsters. She would stick out even in those neighborhoods (Bushwick, Ridgewood, Crown Heights, Bed-stuy, Harlem).

I HATE that people try to label trendy wardrobe and costume make-up as something akin to how a real social outcast feels. Definitely! I don't understand this trend to be nerdy. After the trend has fallen away, The nerdy people socially awkward types will still be here, still being ostracised by the rest of society, still trying to fit in.
Jazzelle just has this way of making you feel like her friend even though you only know her through what she posts on social media. She just has an amazing aura, there's something so genuine about her!!! Love her.
jazzelle is literally so sweet in this video and makes a point about discussing how important it is to make others feel included and loved in the underground fashion scene. yet a lot of people in the comments are assuming a lot of negative things about her and her friends without any actual basis - saying they’re the type of people to be judgemental of how other people dress, superficial simply because the video focuses on fashion, saying they’re not actually all that alternative, saying they’re too alternative to the point of looking like try hards, that they probably think they’re superior to other people, etc., without even realizing they’re being the same judgemental assholes they claim to hate :/
Johanna Nielsen she’s not trying to be anything she just sets aside societal conventions without fear of being “too ugly” bc for her..that doesn’t matter. & I think that on its own is beautiful
I just don't think it would get the same attention if it was an average and/or ''ugly'' girl (in the sense of conformity of society). It's the easy way out but not the right presentation of the subject. This is only my personal opinion and there's no need to be offended. Imagine how boring it would be if everybody just agreed on everything!
There's definitely room to talk about people who are perceived as ugly by society, versus those who are seen as pretty but just a little weird, and who gets more recognition, definitely the latter. But I think she's holding space for people who would be considered "ugly" and she's just the person who is gonna end up getting more recognized and interviewed. I don't think ugly even has one single set meaning and it's like ... There IS so much pressure to fit into societal beauty standards, on women especially, that you might roll your eyes about someone thinking they're "ugly" but yet it wouldn't change the fact that they deep down feel ugly and rejected. So it's also important for those people to feel accepted if that makes sense?? so idk i get your feeling about this and want to see like....... more fat people and people with "bad" skin and etc. etc. etc people who aren't accepted as beautiful by society get featured, but at the same time I don't think this is totally meaningless.
I have been obsessed with her looks for such a while, but it's so nice to see how loving she is in person. Idk she always gave off a too cool vibe to me, because well she's too cool, haha, but she's so chill. I love it.
manu ochenta , isn't that what most fashion is today? A repeat... Most people don't wanna show skin tight clothes and long hair, fair skin.. etc...blah blah. It's a more advanced look, uniquely their own twist. That's what is true fashion and boldness. You can tell when someone tries too hard ( seek attention), now a days. Can we all just love each other and stop the bs. I love it when I wear my gyaru styles but being in a " fit in" society, says it's not sexy or attractive. I say middle finger up! I tell individual all the time how I love their style, instead of just staring. Or I ask them, where did they get their sense of style from? It's good to get to know a person.
This isn't artistic. Or weird. Weird things do not get spotlighted by the biggest video sharing platform in the world. To be honest, I am damn sick of people claiming their weirdos while simultaneously having praise lumped at their feet. It doesn't happen that way, the two are mutually exclusive, if you are weird you will not be accepted but that's part of your life and you have to accept it.
But what is "weird"? In my opinion everyone is. There is no such thing as normal. We all have our quirks that make us different. Some of those things are on the inside. People may look the part of what society deems as "normal" but that doesn't mean they are. I think people shouldn't look into these things so deeply. Live your truth.
Why are there so many people in this comment section that just aren't satisfied with themselves and criticising others who are for showing it? "Love yourself, love the people who love you back, don't hurt nobody, don't hurt yourself, and live your best life." This is about freeing yourself from what you feel captured by, in this case through the practise of art. Where's the problem?
I don’t think alternative people are getting swept under the rug anymore. I think that basic standard of beauty as we know it is becoming the minority. That basic standard is transforming into a melting pot of creativity and people see beauty as being different and having their own ideas.
This is so beautiful and I really aspire to be able to let myself be this true to myself. She really is an icon not for being and acting towards what "the standard" is, but because she knows who she is and she's proud to be herself, however weird or freaky or beautiful and awesome that may be.
Always be the real you. The youth subculture attract some that are the superficial and fake. These people are young and creative, it's their moment to be something different. It will pass when they get older and then it will be time for someone younger to be different.
You don't pass through the "real you". If you really accept yourself and what your personality is, it won't change, it's permanent. What these people are doing is following a trend, and that's precisely why it won't last.
Following a trend? These people are very much outliers, and clearly you havent seen any aged alternative fashion enthusiasts, this lasts a lifetime. Self-expression isn't a one and done. Its like body modification and tattoo enthusiasts. Ever-evolving but ever-lasting. This is their lifestyle.
Panda Prince sure unique self exspression is always evolving and a life time experience. Youth subculture has a way of moving on to the next thing. Warhol knew this when he said " everyone will be famous for fifteen minutes" and this was many years before Instagram and snapchat. This video will eventually get buried in the archive of the past or by next month.
If what the guy with the hat said at 10:43 is true then I'm really glad. If you consider urself a weirdo or alternate kind of person then you should empathize with other weirdos and judge them ... some of them may not be as cool/edgy/fabulous/talented/outspoken as you, some of them may be really simple and shy but it's the humility that matters.
@uglyworldwide has always intrigued me! she is a lot like my younger sister. it makes me sad though because my younger sister got trapped in the downward spiral of meth & it completely ruined her life. point is, when you live a risky life, you are walking a thin line & Jazzelle got lucky! & now she does work hard & spreads a good message.
I LOVED this video..It really was just beautiful. I love Jazzelle and what she brings to the table. More people need to see beauty from another side. ♥ Thank you
How truly unique and beautiful everyone would look if they were just their natural selves--no tattoos, no dyed hair, no implants, not following worn-out, cookie-cutter makeup trends. But as it is, everyone, in their efforts to look unique, end up just looking like each other.
Ok hold up and tell me if i am wrong here. When you are alternative you do not fall into the common social norms and thats great you do you. But why does the black artist want more alternative people to be popular? Wouldnt that defeat the purpose of being alternative when you are suddenly in the mainstream and popular? Because then you become the mainstream because of copy cats etc. I think thats just the way the world works. Or am i wrong?
Considering the fact that it’s becomes more washed out and mainstream now in 2020 yh you ended up being 100 percent correct now there are so many copy cats
how about the real life embodiment of freedom and embracing the weirdness and love to everyone, no matter what or who they are? this not literal(symbolic)point of view not good enough? that would be depressing
They kinda seem like the kind of people who will talk down to you When you say you don't love your self. Importand message you don't have to love your self. Loving your self is hard. Accept your self.
This is wicked. The gold tooth the blue hair. Ahh sstaahpp !!💓🤯💗💗 i wish i had this much confidence. I dye my hair weird coulours i have piercings but to pull it off like these ladies my days 🔥🔥
Toulouse-Lautrec and Picasso's crew were all weirdos who did their own thing. Their look isn't my jam, but their desire to live authentically is. Good on em, and it's good practice to not try to project my own insecurities onto this edited documentary.

I knew she looked familiar! She was in one of Milk's videos. Ah she's so chill and beautiful in such a unique way dude.
I love jazelle sm!! Been waiting for her to recieve the recognition she deserves♥️♥️
The real rebels don’t need to have blue hair. Everyone trying to be different all end up doing the same things.
yes!
it’s about not confirming to what’s normal
The ice blonde w the short hair is GORGEOUS!!!
Her description of her mom is literally how my grandmother's character is, as well. :D
But like in a bold, sassy way. I love my grandma.

i have never seen anyone pull of the no eyebrow look so well. she’s awesome
The blue beanie almost falling off pisses me off so much
How truly unique and beautiful everyone would look if they were just their natural selves--no tattoos, no dyed hair, no implants, not following worn-out, cookie-cutter makeup trends. But as it is, everyone, in their efforts to look unique, end up just looking like each other.
True dat
Yea God forbid some of us get tattoos for ourselves and for our own reasoning
Yes yes 100%!! Photographer said what I am - In a transition, because I don't want to look human. Love Jazzelle and her expressive genius!!!
She's different and unique. Just doing her and being herself. Love that

This video made me feel so good about myself and sparked so much inspiration!
THANK YOU CAUSE WE NEEDED THIS VIDEO
Ok hold up and tell me if i am wrong here. When you are alternative you do not fall into the common social norms and thats great you do you. But why does the black artist want more alternative people to be popular? Wouldnt that defeat the purpose of being alternative when you are suddenly in the mainstream and popular? Because then you become the mainstream because of copy cats etc. I think thats just the way the world works. Or am i wrong?
Considering the fact that it’s becomes more washed out and mainstream now in 2020 yh you ended up being 100 percent correct now there are so many copy cats
When UA-cam finally recommends something to you that's amazing and right up your alley.
I wanna bleach my eyebrows!!!
Post-aesthetics is not about the absence of it, but it's about embracing the eccentricity and the uniqueness in each of us...
I love orograph so much his Instagram is great
I adore her looks!
ultimate tank girl of today!
How about no.
how about the real life embodiment of freedom and embracing the weirdness and love to everyone, no matter what or who they are? this not literal(symbolic)point of view not good enough? that would be depressing
Aunty Agony So true
Kristina Reznikova omg yess!!!😍

They kinda seem like the kind of people who will talk down to you When you say you don't love your self.
Importand message you don't have to love your self. Loving your self is hard. Accept your self.

Toulouse-Lautrec and Picasso's crew were all weirdos who did their own thing. Their look isn't my jam, but their desire to live authentically is. Good on em, and it's good practice to not try to project my own insecurities onto this edited documentary.
They look great!
Nice surprise seeing orograph on this, I love his photos and he such a cute.
"This is my meditation. Finding peace in myself by changing the way that I look."
