    Definitely the best anamorphic footage I've seen on a GH5 yet. More information on the lens, taking lens, settings, colour grading would rule. Good work

    I bought my GH5 in part because of this short. I've seen the reviews, seen the footage, but nothing comes close to this (especially in the world of anamorphic adapters) I've had a proximar + helios combination for 3 years and never had the time patience or courage to work with it seriously. Well, it's getting broken in this summer thanks to you!!!!!! bravo on your amazing and inspiring work!

We are shooting a documentary next week and I am leaning towards DNX SQ as I’m grading in resolve and windows. Any advice / experience is very welcome ! Only thing I know is that in 6K when shooting externally, when you hit record you get a black screen .

    Bringing down the sharpness has made a whole lot of difference
    as I find it extremely distracting in most GH5 footage.
    What is the ISO setting?
    Did you denoise at all in post?

    • @ichidomo
      @ichidomo  7 років тому +2

      No denoiser was used. I didn't go higher than 800 ISO to my surprise, a fair is pretty well lit, otherwise I would've overexposed the highlight background bokeh.
      -5 sharpness is recommended, looks more neutral, 0 still has digital sharpening to my eyes so with -5 you just turn it off.

      I tried with the sigma 18-35 at 35mm on the speedbooster. There's some vignetting, but with the lossless x1.4 ETC crop it doesn't. So it is possible but unpractical. Have tested it with other 35mm but those were unboosted. Will do some further testing with different taking lenses.

      Hey, if you are referring to the SLR Magic 35mm T2.4 2x Anamorphot-CINE Lens with m4/3 mount then a speedbooster wouldn't make any sense since you can't adapt m4/3 to a speedbooster. It's already an anamorphic prime.

    • @ichidomo
      @ichidomo  5 років тому

      I didn't cut the sides, in fact this is pure 4:3 desqueezed by a ratio if 2 resulting in a 2.66:1 ratio which is thinner than the 'official' 2.39:1 ratio.

    • @ichidomo
      @ichidomo  6 років тому

      Hey singamorphic, thank you so much. I've been following your instagram and love your content as well. The vibrating flare is because of the IBIS however when I shot this they didn't have IBIS calibrated yet for 2x anamorphic, they only added it later on with firmware updates and proper 2x stretch calibrated IBIS. Hope this helps.

      Yes please do :) I have quite a few anamorphic lenses so might already own the same one. I have a Kowa 8Z for example but as it's a dual-focus, it sat on the shelf a long time until the SLR Magic Rangefinder came out. Now, it's almost as good as an Iscorama. Without the variable diopter from SLR Magic on the front, it's useless :)

      The sigma will produce a very nice image but you can't mimic the 2x stretch FOV. You can however mimic the anamorphic vertical strechted bokeh by having an oval cut-out in front of your glass or at the back. But the anamorphic look of 2 focal lenghts in 1 shot can't be recreated with spherical glass in 16:9.

    • @dayboyy1
      @dayboyy1 7 років тому +1

      ichidomo ichidomo thank you for the reply! I wasn't necessarily looking for the 2 focal lengths in one shot, I just wanted to achieve the wide angle and cinematic look. Also thanks for putting the music in the description cause it's been on repeat for like 3 days now lol

    My friend! I am in the midst of an internal battle between an a7sii and the GH5, I am heavily leaning towards the Panisonic however. What are you thoughts on using this in low light? A lot of your videos are shot in relatively dark areas so obviously it does pretty well, but I would love to know your thoughts!

    • @ichidomo
      @ichidomo  7 років тому

      +Joe O'Connor
      If you need to see in the dark aka 'nightvision' the sony will be better choice. The gh5 can deliver in dark scenes it's just not capable of 'nightvision', but neither are the higher end cine camera's like RED. It performs well in dark scenes as long as you know how to expose and know it's limits. So if you plan to film in dark caves with no light the sony will be better. In all other cases the gh5 outshines the sony in my opinion.

      Most was around 800 ISO and some shots 1200, never use auto. The fairground was pretty well lit. Could have gone higher but then all the light would've been blown. Most people always look to 'look past the dark' and seem too obsessed with 'low light' I like to shoot the way my eyes see things.

    great looking video. what focus settings did you use to keep it locked onto the girl as you were walking behind her?

      No focus settings were used. Everything is manual. You can't autofocus with this setup. Just keep track of the subject and guess the right distance.

    Why am I having such a hard time finding out what actual adapter this is. It's the kowa 8z right?

    What’s the widest taking lens you can use when using a speedbooster? I have a Sankor 16c but the widest I can go is 58mm. So I’m thinking of picking up a Kowa 8z. Cheers!

      Hi Peter, this was shot on a speedbooster with a 50mm, but keep in mind I didn't use any variable diopters in front. But the Kowa does go very wide. Also the Kowa 8z has identical optics found in the Kowa 16H, elmoscope II, Kowa B&H and Sankor Compact Cinemascope.

    Did you had to crop edges? Metabones purpose in this case is just to bring more light and dof? Or you really like the nikon lens?

    My brother is 14 and is a musician. Can he use some of your film for his music video if he links you into it? This would be nice as it is very beautiful.

      Hi Tim, would you accept a small payment to use parts of this footage for my sons video? It is very difficult for teenagers to make quality music videos and any help along the way is appreciated.

    Did IBIS cause weird flexing of the footage? Was that minimized through the slow motion?

    Did you use a single focus solution like the rectilux, rangefinder, or FM Lens?

    • @ichidomo
      @ichidomo  6 років тому +1

      No single focus solution was used, just a simple fixed focus point.

    I can't locate the 4k 50p pal anamorphic mode. It is only available in 24p 8,10 bit.
