I love Johannesburg but I totally agree when it comes to the unemployment and huge gap between the rich and poor. South Africa has a ton of natural resources, there need to be more jobs created and the government needs to continue the hard work to lift up all citizens.
Drugs and alcohol drives the gap, if you have served the homeless and the youth you would know. Corruption keeps the poor and addicted down. It is the reason why after 30years of BEE the gap remains regardless of ethnicity - drugs and alcohol drives the crime more than anything else and overwhelms the police
@fistazmixwell depends where you live man. Nowadays if you live middle-upper class you have power. If you poor living in the rural areas or the townships you now get full on blackout.
Shocking that people with fashion design and criminology degrees are struggling to find work /s that’s basically the labour market in any developed country these days
I think it’s a deeper struggle than that, the mental and emotional despair at being highly educated and living in an incredibly stunted, stratified society. In a way, the economic data also reveal this story within the high income inequality figures.
@@TheDailyConversation You know what, that’s totally fair. I just thought it was an interesting example since everyone I know with those degrees is also not employed in their field of study here in the US.
They say they are from SA, but most of them aren't. The illegal miners are from Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and other surrounding countries. You can just tell by their need to shout they are from South Africa.

Like in every developing, or in this case re-developing country, people should focus on engineering etc. which will create the infrastructure to accommodate all these fancy jobs.
This is a video about South Africa, not Johannesburg. Additionally you should've spoken about the GNU after the election, the ANC isn't just in power exactly like it was before
By painting our country in such a bad light you are worsening our situation, condemning us to be overlooked by tourists and investors, the truth is things are actually improving faster now that we have a new government. It's time to invest in South Africa because things are going up from here 👌
I've seen all your video's about different cities around the world and they were mostly postive, just curious, why is it that now you do one about Africa and you decide to focus on the negative things? And all these things you were talking about are being resolved and the power outages are a thing of the past. South Africa has its flaws and is not perfect, but tell me which country on this earth is?
If you are saying some of these things are being resolved, than that's good to hear. It really disappointed me when I hear all these negative stories about South Africa, especially when it is the most developed country in Africa. But I really hope South Africa will get better by solving its issue of corruption.
A couple of points. First, not everyone in the ANC is corrupt. Second, much of the opposition would be just as corrupt as the ANC were they to win power- maybe even worse.
If you accept corruption you are as bad. Only in Africa can we have 12 ANC members with pending corruption cases sitting in parliament. The only ones more corrupt than the ANC would be the EFF or MK.
Always nothing positive about Africa 🙄 dont you guys get tired..i mean how many of these documentaries yall have to make? Dont you have something else to talk about Johannesburg ? If there aren’t jobs in the area they shouldn’t offer the major. I think the fault lies in schools that take money for a degree with no job prospects.
One has to look into these degree programmes… are they really offering value to society?
