INGREDIENTS USED FOR THE RECIPE
10% VEGELINE (ALTERNATIVE: ANY BUTTER WILL DO)
74% CASTOR OIL
10% GLYCERIN
5% CERA BELLINA (TRY ANY WAX YOU HAVE)
1% VITAMIN E (FOR THE CLEAR GLOSS)
0.8% FOR THE YELLOW & RED GLOSS
0.2% IRON OXIDE OF YOUR CHOICE

Sis, won't the glycerin separate later? Or does the cera bellina helps to emulsified them? Thank you! 🤗

Let me start by saying THANK YOU. Seriously. I just made this but with shea and beeswax (what I had on hand). And im so happy with the texture of this. Its not overly sticky its great. Its also the fist recipe I found that does not call for Vaseline or lip gloss base. I am very grateful 🙏

Also for anyone who is impatient like I am lol you can put this mixture in a regular cold water bath to speed up putting it in the tube. It was slightly warm but cool enough and liquid enough to suck into a syringe and put it in my tube.
And when it got to thick I gave it like a min back on the stove in the left over hot water then repeated the steps.

Good job, your texture looks great. I actually made one similar to this and prefer the softer texture over a hard waxy lip balm.
By the way, if you don't have any, you should invest in some pipettes for dispensing smaller amounts of ingredients like vitamin E, tocopherol, extracts, preservatives, etc. Pouring small amounts from [large] bottles is an overage waiting to happen. I'm pretty sure Formula Botanica would stress the importance of handling your ingredients properly and carefully when you formulate. So, lead by example and use correct techniques please.
On another positive note, I like your sense of adventure. and you are one of the few on here who is creating some sensible formulas.

Does the consistency of the lip gloss continue to get slighly thicker after you've put it in the tube?

The consistency was okay for me but like I said in the video you can add more castor oil or another oil for thinner consistency.

You don’t have to add preservative because there’s no water in it.

You should absolutely add preservative, as a humectant (glycerin in this case) draws water to itself, and thus the formulation. This is especially true in humid environments. A microbial load can be present (and dangerous) even if you don't see bacteria/mold/yeast growth with the naked eye.

Can I use cocoa butter instead of vegeline?
Cocoa butter is hard, so you have to mix it with soft butter and adjust your wax so you can achieve a nice consistency. Thanks for watching
