  • Does anyone else, apart from me, think that the English opening music is actually BETTER than the Japanese opening song?
    Does anyone else find it annoying that you don't get the English music on the DVD?
    So here it is! For you to enjoy!! =D

    Oedo Cyber City 808 English Opening!
    Quite possibly the very first 'manga' I saw! And what made me love the Japanese style of drawing!! It's also why my user name is 'OEDO'dragon! =D
    I've uploaded these to watch on Veoh! Although you'd need to sign in to Veoh to find, and watch, them as they aren't suitable for children. Please check that your profanity filter isn't turned on.
    My uploads are in 2 or 3 parts and you don't need to install anything to view the whole video!
    Have Fun!!

      @@RavenShinyThings Its the same problems going on in the gaming industry. CGI overload and making something that is meant to be fun and visually captivating too realistic. I like realism in some animes when dealing with issues but I want animation not realistic looking anime or backgrounds, dont mind it in some cases but not to transform the whole art style and genre to show off ultra realistic images that even look more lifeless. You hit the nail in the head by saying anime now is Souless and lacks energy.

    Much like the comment from @iamcombustible I watched this as many others did, in the wee small hours of the morning on Channel 4 at just the right age, CARTOONS FOR ADULTS, WITH SWEARING and an amazing intro music by Rory McFarlane!! If I remember rightly this was shown a few months after Akira was first aired in the UK although that was part of a BBC 2 series of films presented by Jonathan Ross. Anyway, when I first saw it (this was pre internet) I was certain that the voice of Gogul (my favourite) was the same voice as the dragon from Through The Dragons eye a words and pictures schools educational programme from childhood, years later I found out I was right, it was the actor Sean Barrett, the man with coolest voice who went on to be "the priest with dullest voice" in Father Ted and a long time before that the young lad on the boat with Richard Attenborough in the original Dunkirk film. I love that this Manga has left an indelible mark on the psyche of so many people that happened to have tuned in to this (must be nearly) 30 years ago. I was hooked after this and Akira and spent years seeking out as much of the old Anime as I could. Shame its not like this anymore.

    Man, I totally agree with what you have said about the opening music. I get so pumped every time I listen to it, specially hearing with the animated opening. I'll never forget getting the opportunity to tape this on channel 4 late at night when they did the Japanese animation feature. I watched the last one in the series first, and Im glad I did. It changed me forever. I craved more and more Japanese animation from that point on and always dreamed about visiting Japan. Now, I live here. Thanks.

    the music that plays when Gogol beats Molcos at the end of episode 2 is better in UK version than in japanese version.

    I watch this in English too! ^^
    I normally avoid watching anime in English because they sometimes change what they have actually said, and I like to know what they 'really' said!
    Another reason is that often the dub is really bad!
    The only ones that I watch in English are Tenchi Muyo (etc) and this one! Mostly because I originally saw it in English... and that the Dub is great!! =D

    SATAN himself shed a tear when he saw your comment lol. this dub rocks, best parts are the opening/ending themes, fight against amachi and (my favourite) the final theme where gogl and molcos fight... mmmmm badass

      @gamblor91 Yep, Mad Dog something or other did a great job creating a new rockier soundtrack. I've heard a few bits of the Japanese version, understand why it's there, but it just isn't this!

    This was always better than the Japanese opening. I have the dvds on a boxset and the opening is the Japanese version, but the voices are the English dubbed. It's always been a favourite manga of mine, since I first watched it at about 3am on channel 4 in the early 90s.
    The original Guyver, Legend of the Four Kings, or as my American Version calls it Legend Of The Dragon Kings (Same Version with original English Dubbing) (Just a different Title) We're also favourites of mine and now I own the Dvd Box sets, it's always good for a trip down memory lane 😀👍😀

    For me, this IS the original music. I have listened to the soundtrack of this before ever watching the series when I was a young kid. The whole English soundtrack is infinitely badass and yet haunting and dark at the same time. I have heard some of the Japanese and its more like video game music, not bad...just a bit souless.

    @Paul07791 I have Cyber City on DVD, it has the awesome and hillariously badass English dub but the awful Japanese music. This wicked tune was on the VHS version so why not the DVD?

    Anime used to be so indulgent thanks to massive budgets being paid to the talented studio workers.
    Same people complaining about anime being shitty and "woke" nowadays would get an aneurysm over having to pay animators enough to repeat the great work of the 80s and 90s.

    love this, i had the uk version on vhs back in the day, but managed to get in on dvd recently. had to get sent formt he US as there is no UK DVD and for some reason the music soundtracks in the movie are different, anyone know why?

    • @morpheusdreamer
      @morpheusdreamer 9 років тому +4

      Back in the 90s some UK Manga Video titles had their own soundtracks. I remember I was even able to buy the Cyber City Oedo 808 soundtrack from the Virgin Megastore. I think the UK release of Guyver also had the music redone.

    Oh the nostalgia tho listening to this amazing theme again. I mean, there i was 26 years ago watching this anime at a store when it 1st came out. Oh it was so dope (and it still is). I immidiatly when home, totally inspired, drawing al these main characters. It is 1 of my Top 5 anime movies (Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Fist of the Northstar, Macross Plus The Movie are the others) that got me inspired to draw.

    I still have this set on VHS, fricken awesome series and tune. The video's produced by Manga Entertainment for the UK were so so much better than those made for other regions. Look at how Legend of the Four Kings was ruined for the american market, and 3x3 Eyes was completely destroyed and nigh unwatchable.

  • @apexofbeing
    @apexofbeing 14 років тому

    I watched this video and the music was so bad-ass I bought the UK VHS version. Was well worth it. The hard-rocking soundtrack and the hard-boiled, profanity laced dub actually fits the tone of a cyberpunk anime about criminals being forced to do the police's dirty work very well. Would be nice if they made more anime like this these days rather than a hundred different "Generic catgirl maid panty fanservice explosion" shows every year.

    You got my vote cos the english intro is better and this OAV totally blew me away when i first viewed late-night on channell 4 (I wasnt expecting something this gd).
    P.S notice SPACE ADVENTURE COBRA on dvd music score has changed for the worse. My personal opinion is the YELLO soundtrack works best but then thats just mine.

    Many Otaku's believe that the original Japanese version is always better than their dubbed counterpart....well here's an example in which the dubbed version is WAAAY better than the original...
    If ever there is a Blu ray release of the original dubbed version then I swear I'd buy one
