Mary Hadaway Thank you Mary!! More videos to come from the Camino, beware! Also, if you haven’t already, would you mind leaving a review on Amazon? That would help us tremendously! Thanks! - Chica 🙋♀️& Sunsets 🌅
As always, great gear review. I just finished your A.T. Book and loved it. My favorite part was the gear breakdown at the end with your rating scale of loved, liked, meh, and hate. So funny.
Thanks Kamper 2020. Glad you enjoyed the book. I didn’t hate many things, but I’m surprising myself that I will be taking the xeros. We’ll see, maybe I will forgive them :). If you get a chance, please leave an Amazon review. They help us self published authors tremendously. Cheers, Greg
Love to see changes in gear ...yall are gonna have a great time that's for sure.. I've heard only good things about the Camino..looking forward to the next trip vid...
Greg, I am surprised you are taking a icebreaker. You love yours on the AT. I got one because of you liking yours so much. I love mine to, in fact I got a long sleeve and short one. Thanks for the advice. Loved the video, but I had trouble hearing Jen, maybe my ears or phone. Have a great trip and safe travels!!!
Old Ladies Hiking North On The Appalachian Trail Thank you for the reminder that I need to speak up! I always forget. Greg has such a booming voice, me not so much.
Holy smokes! Where do I start?? First, congrats on that fantastic weight! 14.5/15 lbs- outstanding! Jen- the umbrella is amazing! I have the feeling you’re going to love it for sun protection on the daily. I’m loving that pack with all its bells & whistles. Rain cover attached.....nice! Who’s the little guy hanging on the outside? Did I miss the introduction? I don’t remember him on the AT. Great idea for your shoes- everybody and their brother will likely be wearing Altras! Congrats you two, I’m feeling pretty jelly right now! Best of luck to you both.
Ack, I forgot to mention my cute sock doll, made by my pal Arlette Laan (from an old shirt of Anish's and she sewed a white blaze on it for me as well!), you can find her creations here: arlettelaan.com -- Chica
Hi y’all! The sandals worked fine. Although, I think I prefer cheap flip flops for their easy-on easy-off properties. I still can’t wrap my head around why xeros cost so much, but are made in China. They sure no how to market though. Chica disagrees and loves hers.
@@ChicaandSunsets Hey Sunsets! Thanks for the info. I enjoyed my off-brand Crocs, on the A.T., because they were light and easy to slip on and off, but they are a touch bulky to pack away. Those Xeros sound great, but I'm not sure about that price tag either!
Looking forward to following your Camino de Santiago adventure. Thank you for posting your gear list. Is your sleep sheet stretchable? If so, would you mind letting me know the brand name? I'm looking for to get a new, lighter one. Thanks in advance.
Great video guys... a couple of questions now that you did your walk... * If you needed to loose pack weight - what would you have dropped? * If you had forgotten something - how easy would it have been to buy it on the trail? * Why no walking poles - seems everybody else has them! Cheers, David
* We we’re happy with our pack weights of ~ 15 pounds. We each could have dropped some clothing, but we’re happy with having options. * Yes, most items can be picked up along the way. There are outfitters at the beginning and in the larger towns. * We are very familiar with hiking with trekking poles and we each used them daily on the AT. For the Camino, our packs weighed half of what out AT packs weighed and we were not climbing and descending mountains. We trained with and without them and then decided to not use. It was the right decision for us. Another factor, we wanted to fly using only carry ons and trekking poles have to be checked on.
Thanks so much for the comprehensive break down and explanations. I really loved following you last summer. My husband and I plan to hike the AT in 2020, and as a warm-up, we hope to hike the Camino next September so I will be watching your videos with very special attention. We are a bit older than you two, but you are still probably the best (most valid) role models for us on UA-cam. One question...I was stunned to hear that you don't plan to use trekking poles...(Did I hear that right?) Would you possibly address how you arrived at that decision? Again thanks for all you share, you two are treasures to our community.
Wow, thank you so much, this means a LOT to us! Greg had already decided he wasn't taking trekking poles, but I was still going to. However, I hadn't been using them on our training hikes (where the terrain is much easier and flatter than the AT), but the last long hike we did I DID use them. I was much surprised that with the 1) lighter pack (15 pounds vs. 29) and the 2) nicer, flatter terrain, I felt more comfortable walking without them than with them!! I loved them on the AT to keep me from tripping and falling, and to steady me and my posture with my heavy pack - all those things are not items to contend with on the Camino. Sure, there will be a few places it would be nice to have them (the Pyrenees, etc.), but overall just not needed, so I'm not taking. Hope that helps! -- Chica
Thanks for sharing your reasoning...Lots to think about! BTW when I was notified of your response, I was at Costco buying a pair of those down throws. Thanks again...Buen Camino!
I am planning on walking the Camino this coming October - very useful info here. Trying to decide between Altra or Salomon boots. Currently using Salomons - was it difficult to get used to the Altras? How did they hold up? Also like the water bottle holder idea, but the link doesn't work. Is there another way to find out about them?
Hi Robert, this is Chica. I don't wear boots, but I wore Salomon trail runners on the Appalachian Trail, and Altra trail runners on the Camino - I MUCH preferred the Altra's! Hope that helps. Buen Camino! :)
Sunsets - is that a new tattoo on your right forearm? Looks nice. I plan to do the AT next year. And if I complete it (as a purist) I'll probably get something similar.
Realy nice Video its on the point you realy dont need more for this trip! an thanks good that you dont pack these metal hicking sticks, gosh they are so annoying on the way :D i think we are going to see us on the way i start september 3. im pretty slow i want to try it out barefoot. so you will catchup ! its my third time then. 1.winter 2.summer and i loved the Winter one cause i cant stand the heat too! buen camino we see us on the way!^^
Looking forward to watching your videos as you tackle your new adventure, I thoroughly enjoyed your AT videos.
Thanks for doing this - can't wait for this adventure! It's on my bucket list!
Traveling mercies!

Looking good! Can't wait to follow along on this adventure! Noticed the AT tattoos as well! They don't weigh anything and they look cool!
Jeff Supper Thanks so much Jeff! Especially on they tats. 😀
Thanks for sharing your gear. I’m very interested in following along and seeing the pilgrimage!

Great video as always! That window in the background looks like the Camino symbol.
Loved all of your videos! You guys are awesome. I am leaving NC for Camino Frances August 30. What was your process to treat silk sleeping bag liner?
Cynthia Morton thank you! We bought some permethrin spray on Amazon and treated our liners ourselves. Pretty easy to do. Buen Camino!! - Chica

Yeah, I gained some weight back and the only merino wool shirt I have is too small. I may regret not buying a new one, but I should be fine.

Hey Sunsets! How did your Zero sandals work out?

Very efficient selections. Why no trekking poles?
Theodore Rzepski Keep watching our Camino videos, we go into details about it in one of our early videos on the trail. Thanks!
I can't stop laughing with the Lush lemon soap😂

No, not stretchy, it's a sleeping bag liner, very lightweight, more like a cocoon, here it is on Amazon: amzn.to/2BRpD25

@@ChicaandSunsetsThanks for your reply - I'll go a bit lighter and buy a couple items on the way in August!
I found that NOT putting synthetic clothes in the dryer kept the stink down considerably. YMMV
Interesting!

Hey guys, instead of close pins, try bread bag tags in the future. Works great for me
Thanks for the tip!
Is there any gear you would leave at home if you did it again?
No, our gear was well thought out and we used everything we brought and didn’t have to send anything forward or home.
