    Oathbreaker paladin 7/fiend warlock 5 has been by far my favourite class/multi class in all my playthroughs of the game. It literally has everything. Great melee scaling off charisma, great spell selection (hunger of hadar/eldritch blast) and great social skills.

      I like going 5/5 and then 2 levels in fighter for action surge so you can basically 1 turn many big targets

      @@Luigi3030 that's good too, though I'd argue aura of hate for oathbreaker and aura of protection that you get for paladin level 6 and 7 are better long term for a melee class.

      I want to try this mix in my next run, but I am just a little confused on setting it up. Do you focus on strength with the paladin till 7 and then respec it all into charisma at lvl 3 warlock when you get pact of the blade? I think at certain points in this video you can see he has 18 strength but once he gets POTB his strength is down to 10 and he has like 20 in charisma.

    • @gun_slinger6664
      @gun_slinger6664 10 місяців тому +9

      @@Geoffroy4440 so what I do is set strength to 14 and charisma at 17 (put the rest into your other stats how you wish). First two levels go paladin. Next three levels go warlock. At character level 5 you get pact of the blade and you gain a significant jump in hit chance and damage for your melee attacks. Before this it can be harder to use melee so I end up being almost a support/ranged caster using eldritch blasts and bless.
      Alternatively you can set strength to 16 and use it as your main stat until character level 5 where you can respec into charisma. Though I'd argue as a melee character you'd still want at least 12 strength for jump distance and shove resist. Keep in mind also if you decide to go oathbreaker early and then try to respec it will cost you 1000g to reclaim your oath before it allows you to respec.

      hmmm so once i get to lvl 5 from pala 2 and lock 3 getting the weapon pack i should respect before breaking my vengeance oath and becoming an oath breaker? if im still in act 1 where can i go respect? and after lvl 3 lock do i keep lvling lock until i get lvl 5 lock then switch back to paladin at lvl 8 for the last 5 lvls or how did you go about it?

    Paldins are so great for multiclassing because as a general rule the martial classes are great for multiclassing due to how front loaded they are. Charisma characters are also great to combine together, as well as the social aspect. And the Paladin just embodies all of it

    I enjoy my Padlock build:
    Oathbreaker Paladin 7/ Pact of the Blade Warlock 5.
    Heavy armor, a buffed smite, Eldtrich Blast with three beams; Pact of the Blade extra attack that STACKS with Paladin extra attacks (on purpose according to Larian and ONLY Pact of the Blade EA stacks with other martials); Hold Person for automatic crits, Slow for automatic advantage, CHA thru the roof for conversations and extra goodies, a shield for extra AC and a Polearm for extra reach. This is also a Solo build on Balanced Difficulty.

    Awesome video and I would love to see this become a full series for all the different classes of the game. It explores all the different combination of multiclassing, even if they are considered weak or odd, and provides helpful breaking points for levels and the reasoning behind them. This video alone provided a multiclass I completely overlooked of a Dex Paladin with one level in Monk, removing the restriction of only using finesse weapons, so thanks for the new build idea. I'm sure this does take a lot of time with researching, scripting, filming footage, and editing, so thanks to all the hard work of everyone involved.

    I'm a 6/6 oathbreaker necromancer and it's a ton of fun. I'm using the crown of intelligence so I can use offensive spells. Note for other oathbreakers, the Aura of Hate only affects undead which are holding weapons. It doesn't effect zombies, skeletons, ghouls, or flying ghouls. I got totally baited by that so hopefully you guys don't.

      Waiting for the Sorlock video too. Something like 2 Warlock and 10 Sorc seems like a good way to go because you get the 2 Eldritch Invocations at lvl 2. Then you can just abuse Sorcery Points for maximum chaos. Maybe do more Warlock lvls if you want to just spam Eldritch Blasts? Warlock+Sorc+Rogue for an extra bonus action and then use the Quickspell Gloves, although that's a little gimmicky?

    6 Paladin, 4 Abjuration, 2 White Dragon Sorcerer is a nice combo. With Heavy Armour Master and Skinburster. Arcane Ward of up to 8, Force Conduit up to 7, Adamantine Splint of 3, and Heavy Armour Master 3 you can reduce damage by up to 21 (42 with resistance). Level 5 Armour of Agathys hit points will last a long time. Compelled duel can keep someone focused on you.

    7 paladin, 5 warlock is just about impossible to beat.
    you get extra attack from paladin, AND extra attack linked to your pact weapon through warlock (and yes, they DO stack, and yes this is confirmed working as intended).
    Also you get good aura options from paladin at 7. I went aura of hate (oathbreaker). 5 Warlock gives you two extra possible smites at level 3.
    If you get the strength gloves from house of hope (sets str to 23), while having 16 con, 14 dex, and 24 charisma (hair, mirror, and hat)... you have +7 from charisma. Use the sword from the dragon under the city... that gives you double strength bonus to attacks. Then you're at +6+6+7 to your attacks (and the sword is 2d6+3). This build begs for Great Weapon Master. You have a massive amount of +tohit, and your preferred weapon is a specific greatsword. Aura of hate adds +7 every attack as well. I found that even without smite I was routinely getting 40-50 dmg on all _FOUR_ of my melee attacks (you will always get a kill and proc GWM's bonus attack). And if I added smites? just wow.
    And that's just with the build, plus hat, gloves, & sword. Obviously you can stack more damage on that. Armor which causes reeling when you're hit, rings which do +2 radiant damage and proc glowing orb on enemies... you can quickly make foes unable to hit anything at all. I liked to use the periapt necklace, to make healing potions extremely strong. Since the build kinda focuses on offense rather than tankiness. After round 1 or 2, very little can hit you anymore. Drink a potion, you're back at full hp.
    I often forgot about many of the other powerful abilities in the build, simply because the obvious route to a rapid victory was doing massive melee damage, and making foes inaccurate.
    Could easily 1v1 any boss in the game with this build. I played this plus shadowheart in a Tempest/Storm build, focusing on wet electric damage. And that pairing can handle any fight (even with many adds) with just 2 characters in party. Shadowheart solo destroyed the dragon in the final fight, while pali-lock main flew around and killed 3 mind flayers ...all in round 1. I'm sure they could have swapped roles and had the same result in round 1.
    Melee shines with illithid powers too. Far Realms for one sure crit per long rest, and fly for positional reasons, being the stand-out features.

      I think the most efficient way to play paladin cleric multiclass is just by forgoing charisma alltogether and just go full wisdom. I think the optimal is to go paladin 3 cleric 9 or paladin 5 cleric 7. Spirit guardian is just way to good and should be used with meele. The most important pladin spell is the smites and they don’t use charisma for their damage rolls anyway.
      War cleric is best plus paladin and cleric is so fitting thematically

    • @common_undead
      @common_undead 10 місяців тому

      @@yohanes2034 If you really want spirit guardians on your paladin, you should be going 6 paladin/6 lore bard, since bards get it from magical secrets. This is because the bard's spirit guardians will scale with char and outside of your smites, all of your paladin abilities are dependent on char. Including your channel oath, and the spell save dc of any spell you may want to use (thunderous smite, compel to a duel, moonbeam, etc.)
      Not to mention, unless you just want a smiter, which imo, is not that great since you run out of spell slots pretty quickly, the paladin aura at level 6 is too good to pass up, and relies on char. Adding your char mod to all your and nearby allies saving throws is amazing. At 18 char, it is akin to giving every nearby character proficiency in all saving throws.

      @yohanes2034 10 місяців тому

      @@common_undead that’s 1 idea I might be borrowing for other playthroughs. Paladin aura is certainly good but it never really sway me to build my character around it because of how I play my paladin, i.e smithing all day. The radius is not the best for allies as the radius is small.
      The paladin - cleric multiclass is really fitting from role playing perspective though as you’re kinda a holy warrior. The paladin spell list by itself doesn’t have enough flavor for me

    Great video! My friend is playing Paladin and we were both curious what and why certain classes were good multiclasses for Paladin.

    2 paladin 10 bard is just such a beast combination. With college of swords you hit like a truck, shrug off damage, and deal unbelievable damage to grouped enemies.

    Paladin, Similar to Fighter or Cleric are one of the classes I like to multiclass a lot
    2 level in Warlock or even 1 level (since you rarely play with maxed out Lv.12 chars) feel insanely strong on Paladin, like they are made for each other, Ranged option and Warlock Spell slots is a lot for such a little investment. Paladin->Paladin->Warlock is propably one of the strongest Lv.3 characters out there
    I also would give more Credit for the Fighter here
    Sorc is something I considered aswell, but didnt really feel it, since Sorc gets a lot of fun when the spells start getting really big and Sorcerer Points are really not that big of a deal, subclass features are cool, but also not really needed
    Wizard is just an inferior Sorc since it uses Int

    Did my last run with a 2 paladin 10 war cleric and it works a lot better than you’d think. Just dump charisma and go full wisdom. You’ll only have 1 paladin spell slot which you can just use bless or something for. Then you get tons of good spells and high level slots you can use for divine smite. You also get some extra attacks from war cleric which helps because you aren’t getting to paladin 5 for extra attack.
    Basically just a war cleric who dips 2 levels for smite but hey it works really well

    6/6 sorcerer gives you massive smites at high level spell slots but you still get the core paladin skills.

    I imagine that a Paladin 2 / Cleric 10 will be on the other video.
    Because it goes well with Thunder Smith / Destructive Wrath.
    Thanks for the video!

    Awesome video
    I'd love to see more of these cause most times it's not that easy to find a synergie between classes.
    Personally I love Pala-Warlock. You can drop strength and make it so much smoother.

    I actually like Paladin 5, Warlock 5, Sorcerer 2. That gives me 3 melee attacks per round and 9 spells slots for Smites: the 2 level 3 slots are Short Rest, IIRC.

      Even better is paladin5/warlock5/fighter2 since you get action surge, then you can attack six times per turn. The two levels in fighter would get you way more value than two in sorc

    I don't like how everything is compared through the lense of smite alone. As if paladin has nothing else in the arsenal. I'm going for [Paladin 8] + [Cleric 4] trying to craft a dual-halberd build. Yes. With feats Polearm Master and Sentinel. But it's just a concept right now. This way I'll bombard enemies with advantageous opportunity attacks while actively using main actions for support or crowd control. I'll actively use silence, shove, command, sanctuary and other abilities in order to make enemies go in-and-out of melee range. Also I really want to use that summoned polearm. And if it triggers Sentinel's attack (considered an "ally" being hit) - that will be hilarious.

    Paladin 2 \ Bard 10 - strongest smiter in the game with tons of slots, reaction shield spell (because of 10 lvl bard), also you can smite each target of mele-flourish separately. Finess two-handed + medium armour dex based pal )

    One issue of analysis here is that I think you shouldn't only analyze it as a level 12 character. That only covers the 2nd half of Act 3, no?
    I suppose taking a few minutes to analyze the 5/2 or 6/1 builds, along with the 5/3 and 6/3 builds? Might be a nice way of starting each multiclass review since it's much narrower.

    I think a 2 or 5 level dip is best. Though to be honest, Paladin is such a strong class I’ve been happy to stay pure.
