- HELLO!!! tis I, PLOOOTO. Welcome to the 7th song of the season, 45 more to go :) This one is about the need to be relevant, especially in a music/entertainment career. In the music industry, songs have what they call a "Shelf Life". It's basically how long a song lasts on the shelf - how long it's listened to until people are like "OK NEXT". This, along with MANY others, is why a lot of artists in my industry become insecure, and bail out to a more normal career. It's sad we measure ourselves to this impossible standard. I know this is random but Brendan Fraser said something like "there will come a time in everyone's career where the phone will stop ringing" - this quote is true on so many levels. There will always be something new and shiny that comes out to replace you, but you can't let that stop you from doing what you love. What's awesome is, today we have music streaming & accessible distribution like Distrokid/Cdbaby/tunecore - this is in some way democratizing music as a whole. The story and feeling this song represents is like the tiny crack between being completely unvalued as a person while being told you are valued by those same people.

i absolutely loved this entire fuckin album man.. i was so depressed last year, everytime u made a song i got soooo happy man. ur the absolute best, never forget it!!
I didn't know the term 'shelf life' until now. Has made me wonder if I know songs that I no longer listen to (yes there definitely are). But I also realized that there are countless songs, but mostly five artists that I could listen to every day (Unlike Pluto, The Peoples Thieves,...).
A good friend of mine also listens to Unlike Pluto regularly now (made me quite happy)
Still, I think songs will always find a way back onto the shelf, even if it takes years. You scroll through youtube or spotify and suddenly old forgotten songs reappear, you listen to them all over again and fell in love once more.
But maybe that's just a feeling I know, idk. But I like it :D
