Mark, please go ahead and do the ads and open yourself up to sponsors. We really don’t mind you having the added revenue streams and watching the ads and hearing you do sponsor reviews is one of the few ways those of us who cannot be a patron can still help support you. With your followers and viewer counts, you could easily get free engines, equipment, marine paint, fiberglass products, etc. Andy even got a free electric bike. You can always change your mind later when you don’t need the money. Reach out to Mads, Matt from Duracell and Andy to get advice on which products to accept.

-> People: I think we should all give Mark some time & space to recover from working 2 fulltime jobs (1.dealing with a huge project/2. documenting and uploading video's every week) away from family in a foreign country. For now let's just assume that he'll be back when he's feeling ready again. We're all only human after all.
-> Mark: I am very much looking forward to more episodes in the future, and am confident you'll get back to it once you've sorted things. I also hope you enjoy the holiday period with your family! Thanks for all the great content you have been providing up till now :)

Hi Mark, I have been watching your videos for ages and honestly think you are doing a fantastic job.
I was taught years back when cutting threaded bolts, bars etc to hold the bar up on roughly a 45 degree angle and rotate it against a grinding surface so it essentially grinds the material downwards and off the end of the rod if that makes sense. I haven't had to use a die since to get the thread to run again.

if using an angle grinder to cut things, you should use a cutting disk/cutting wheel/cut-off wheel, they are made for that and aren't that expensive. If you're going to be using it to cut a lot of metal, it's definitely worth it.

Great progress now, you cen see the concept of your cockpit coming together. Really enjoying the series..!! The bolt through the square tubing still worries me. You've got the spacer tube over the threaded bar, but it is still clamping on the inner wall of the square tube. If you consider the forces on that area, it might squash the square tube section, even a little bit, and always be coming loose. The round spacer tube should go through an enlarged hole on the inner wall of the square tube and clamp the outer wall of the square tube with the nut and washer. That way, it won't squash the square section and will always stay tight. Even more important now that the cockpit is hanging from it, too, and loading more forces on the threaded bar and square tube joints. Sorry, it's hard to explain without waving my hands in the air.... ha ha ha. (if you could see me typing and waving hands too, you'd have a laugh...!!
Have you considered welding the stainless tubes together?
    Another great episode, thanks Mark.
    Grant, Adelaide, South Australia.

Mark, have you thought through that what the engines need to drive is actually the source of resistance, which are the hulls? You have massively reinforced areas where the beams intersect the hulls, and just below those points would be an ideal attachment point for whatever carries the motors. You could make everything out of wood, You can see the idea from how Brupeg's wings are attached. Building short wings that would rotate down between the hulls, and then up to put the engines horizontal when raised would be a much easier way to manage the removal and installation of the outboards and the drive trains.
The problem with the beams are obvious: they're too high: you don't want force applied that high.
You could, by not mounting the engines at the same point fore and aft, but having one in the front, and the other iin the extreme rear, create a vectorable thrust, sort of a poor man's bow and stern thruster. What you're doing with bolts and steel needs to be welded: too much concentration of large forces on small areas, and single points of failure throughout.

    • @travelbugse2829
      @travelbugse2829 10 місяців тому

How about this idea: put together parallelogram-type frames, fixed as you said to the hulls, with a swiveling stay rod attached diagonally to take the thrust. They'd lift the O/Bs in the correct thrust position that way, no risk of upsetting the carbs etc. Easy for maintenance. I would also have a permanent crank handle arrangement to bring those motors up. Electric lift would be a bit too luxurious for me. But surely no need for asymmetric positioning? One motor in reverse would crank the Wharram round easy enough IMO.

Mark, there is a handy little drill attachment for cleaning the treads quickly. Look for an “external deburring/chamfering tool”. It’s a cone shaped device that quickly cleans the end of the rod/bolt and usually leaves the thread in great shape. Normally about $10 or so.

Those existing mounting systems look "fragile" & exposed...and not looking nice estheticly.👍😶

I have an emergency portable AC\heater unit for use when there are power outages. I did quite a bit of research before purchasing and went with a 2 hose system. The disadvantage of leaving the intake inside the boat instead of in the window is that by sucking air from inside the boat and discharging it outside the boat, you are creating lower pressure inside the boat than outside and you end up causing humid and cold air from outside to be suck inside reducing both the effectiveness of the de-humidification and the heating\cooling.

I think you need to use both the ventilation tubes through the external holes for optimum efficiency. (Just like you have them). That way you are not introducing air into the hull. Just heating or cooling the air already there.
Your reinforcing bars would be much stronger if arranged diagonally. As I said in a previous comment, diagonals make triangles. And triangular structures are stronger and flex less than rectangles. Even small fillets at 45 degrees in the corners would add stability (making a mini triangle).

A set of temporary (can be non s/s) wingnuts is useful during any repeated assembly/dissasembly process like this particularly where you are going to finally use nylocs .

As a suggestion, buy a drill sharpener! You'll save hundreds on buying replacement drills.

You obviously have your die but you can also get a cone shaped carbide cutter that you can put in your drill and it will clean up the end of a cut rod in 10 seconds. Good if you have a lot to do and can clean up all kinds if cutting crimes 😊
Also works for a wide range of rod diameters and natching thread pitch is obviously not an issue

Try melting some candle wax on the threads! It will help keep the moisture from the threads. Not quite sure it will stay in place in the tropics though. But in the Northern Hemisphere it could be useful! Good luck with all of your projects!

Use the side of the death wheel to knock the burr off the ends of the all thread. Also since those motors are going to create a lot of stress on your tubing, you will want to fortify them with a piece of pipe inside the tubing to prevent the nuts from from crushing the tubes. This should be done at all of the points where there are bolts on both sides of the tubing.
