I love that traditional smell of coconut and suntan lotion, and sunscreen. It takes me back to childhood And good memories picnicking at the lake with family.❤
Another life lost due to misdiagnosis of Melanoma. A friend of mine, who is black, told me her brother had a place on his leg from years ago. He went to his doctor and was told "black people can't get skin cancer". My friend, his sister, told him to go to a big hospital an hour away and see a Dermatologist. Sadly, low and behold this doctor biopsied the huge place on his leg (grew really big over time) and it came back Melanoma, but had already metastasized throughout his body. He died last week and was 39 years old.
@@MatMat-qi2rd Certainly is. I am wondering if this was an old doctor who back in the day didn't know any better. I told her about Dr. Dray's channel and how she emphasizes people of all color can get skin cancer. I don't know, but so, so sad and told my friend I hope she was wearing sunscreen every day since she works in a room with lots of windows and sunshine. Another professional advice from Dr. Dray. Saves lives.
They're still taught in the same ways. It's up to the doctor to check their biases. Hopefully, good doctors like Dr. Dray will continue to move the needle.
It is. In fact, every place consumers ask "Can we use this on the face?" the brand responds "Please don't!" and recommends one of their face options (the mineral shake-shake or the face stick). And this is probably why. Their body sunscreens all sting the face like the dickens! Probably the fragrance oil in them. But on the body, the whip is absolutely not greasy, and neither is the baby oil. I recommend the whip to everyone I know who hates traditional sunscreen. It's fun to apply, smells great, and feels like nothing once it dries. I love it.
A little anecdotal review on the Vacation oils. I tried both the Baby Oil one and the Chardonnay Oil. I took them with me on a Caribbean cruise. Let me just say, I do NOT burn easily. I have a medium skin tone and these products FAILED me miserably. I only used them on my body. My skin looked lobster-like after 3 hours and this was after many re-applications. I basically had NO sunscreen on…only oil. Suffice it to say, on the 2nd day of the cruise, I was in the ship’s drugstore area purchasing a REAL sunscreen!! They smell wonderful, though, and I ended up using them for just a moisturizing oil straight out of the shower.
I think the oil sunscreens are pulling in a group of people that probably don’t regularly use sunscreens daily and are getting them for the nostalgia or pool/beach time where the shiny oil look could be a plus. I am a former sun worshiper so for me this brand is all about nostalgia . For that reason l did briefly consider the oils, but I know the second I put them on I would’ve just been laying out in the sun all day, and pulled back into my old habits which kind of defeats the purpose. (Sunscreen oill=gateway drug for sunbathing for me😊)I did pick up the shake shake shake mineral face, and also their perfumes which are really nice.
Tinted Australian Gold mineral spf 50 is my new holy grail. This is IT! The label calls it a BB cream sunscreen, and does have that same velvety feel. Stays on until you wash it off with soap. Matte finish. Not greasy. No scent. Comes in three tints. I'm seriously in ❤️ love.
@DavisDoodle It's just what I need in our NC heat and humidity. I hope Australian Gold will come out with more inclusive shades so more people can enjoy this sunscreen. 😊
I have the mist and chardonnay oil and they WORK (for me). Love the smells, quick-drying, and no bad/irritating effects! I guess it varies per person. Appreciate your reviews!
The smell of Hawaiian Tropic oil takes me back to the 70s. But if I'm on the beach and I catch a smell of original Coppertone....that takes me back, as well. Coppertone original smells like no other suntan lotion. Ahh, youth.
The Classic Whip is my favorite every day body sunscreen. Yes, it's because of the way it's packages and dispensed. It's so fun and it makes me enjoy putting sunscreen on (as opposed to feeling like it's a chore). The lip products are my go to lip screens. I don't use any Vacation products on my face because of the fragrance and I don't think the textures are good for wear with makeup.
I was so worried about this review since the Vacation brand is much more about the “vibes” and scents than sheer practicality. But, alas Dr. Dray was fair and honest which I should have expected. Vacation is probably my favorite SPF brand for body products…they are just so nostalgic in packaging and scent plus are very fun to use. However, every time I see the Classic Whip used on the face it makes me cringe lol. It’s amazing for the body but way too greasy for the face. Also, I believe the Mineral SPF is fragrance free. Thanks for another great review!
I bought the SPF 50 Lotion. I’m an active runner. Besides the nice smell I didn’t find it much different than anything else I’ve used. The SPF 50 lip balm Strawberry also smelled nice but tasted like sunscreen
I have been using the Vacation mineral sunscreen lotion on my body and the Shake, Shake, mineral milk spf50 for face. I’m very sensitive to chemical sunscreens so I’ve been so happy with my choices this summer. Try the mineral milk for your face. No stinging or burning of eyes! I don’t see that face sunscreen in your collection today. It’s my new favorite! So much lighter weight and no cast. Sure beats my Cereve mineral for faces.
When I was a teenager in the 1970s, we used to apply Johnson's Baby Oil to get a tan. I could never last more than 5 minutes because I got too hot and my skin does not tan, just burns. However, my friend and her sister would bake in the sun for hours with the baby oil.
I watched my teen step sisters slather on baby oil (or Crisco) and try to get a tan. It never worked for them; they just turned pink and red - and then back to white skin again. I think they had mainly Irish and UK ancestry, so, no, tan wasn’t going to happen, lol.
Happy Wednesday. I have the face one from Vacation Shake Shake spf 50 mineral with the booster product in it and it is awesome. No burning or stinging. Might be a slight white cast but I am pale so not 100% sure on that.
Lol! Hi Uncle Charlie! Happy Tuesday!! I hope you had a nice day and hope you have a nice July 4th. Peace, joy and many blessings to you, my friend. 🙏🕊☕🇺🇸
Dr Dray, I absolutely love your advice, but I have to say, the Super Spritz Face Mist SPF is literally my Holy Grail!! I literally wear it throughout the day and do apply it on top of my makeup, and it does not hurt my eyes after I apply it. I just have to close my eyes for some seconds and that's it.
Seen these on QVC. I'd probably would use the oils in conjuction with the sunscreen creams. But only for the beach or out for a walk 😂 the whip one would never touch my face! Only body skin for sure.
The Ordinary has a squalane amino acids lip balm (that can also be used on other dry body parts). I'm wondering if these new product launches (along with the sacchromyces toner/exfoliant and retinal serum) are part of what's going to happen now since Estee Lauder now has full control.
The reviews for TO new Squalene Lip Balm are pretty bad on Ulta's website. If I was going to get something like that, I'd go for PC lip + treatment balm.
As a user of the classic whip I can say 100% it is NOT a facial sunscreen!!! I've never even thought to do so because of the fragrance. I knew it would burn because the fragrance is (delightfully) strong. Please please please don't let all these influencers using the product WRONG turn you off of it (idk why they're all putting it on their faces). It smells so nice and it doesn't feel heavy if you use it on your body as intended.
I was hoping, that you also had bought the glowy-orange one, because I want to try it so much! Anyway, “Sunscreens” is my favourite topic on your channel, because I live in Israel and go through several tubes a month! I always appreciate your advice and knowledge! ❤
Are those all for the face? But also I think it depends on your climate, here we have dry summer. I like using sunscreen oils on my legs, especially on the shin part, it makes them look, nice, protected and helps with a bit of dryness… love the oils but not for face, just the body. Aren’t creams whipped oils anyways?
Greetings Dr Dray hope u r well n 🖐Hello Every1 n Happy Wednesday😀n what a Wonderful Vid…. thanks n This is Gonna b so Insightful🔥👍n Continued Blessings to All💜….
I have the classic one! I love the smell but it’s very greasy. I will use it up on my body Eta after watching: the classic one is very greasy on my face and I don’t think I applied too much? It does dry down a bit. But I thought it was sooo greasy like my hair would be getting stuck to my face with it on. And it also stings the eyes on me too. I also have the chap sticks. I forgot they were from this brand! They smell exactly like the drinks!! Also, for everyone saying they love the scent, they do have two perfumes and the Vacation one is exactly that coconut scent of the sunscreen. I’m seriously considering buying it 😅 I sampled them in ulta before and the packaging is very vintage and cute. I’m so psyched to see this review from because I bought these blindly back in April or May just because they’re vegan and had pretty good reviews on ulta’s website.
I just dont buy western sunscreens anymore if i dont have to. I feel like asian spfs just dont make me cry the way western ones do. I've had to pull my car over before because of the pain in my eyes from some of these sunscreens!
I am not a sun worshipper, but I can attest to the fact back when I was younger everyone was into oils to get that deep tan, my sister was like that, me I just burned all the time but again it just was not that big of a deal, you got burned, you healed etc, My burns usually happened when I was mowing the lawn or out in the garden.
I wore the spray sunscreen and applied and rubbed it in thoroughly, and still ended up tanning. I think the UVA protection is fairly low :( When I asked them on Instagram if they have UVA PF ratings, they said that was "illegal" in the US? I think they just didn't want to disclose tbh
I have no issues with both Vacation oil sunscreens, I’m also not using them as a daily sunscreen for daily errands and work. I typically just use them poolside or on the beach.
I did use baby oil. My mom would get it for me to help with a tan.she didn't know. 🤗 The whipped sunscreen would never touch my face either. Yuck, none of those would go on my face. 🤷♀️
I'm not likely to use an SPF oil--I have oily skin to begin with--but I'm wondering if it would be helpful for swimmers? Especially if it's water-resistant?
I think the sunscreen oils are meant to be used to tan by the pool as tanning oil but with spf protection (contradicting lol) but i feel like it would make me feel better about tanning and less guilty but 🤷♀️ i dont see how it can be used daily since its literally oil
I liked the Chardonnay oil for my daily commute but I always wondered if I was applying enough to get SPF 30 protection. Maybe people that like it aren’t applying enough. It appealed to me because I prefer the feel of a dry-touch body oil to a body lotion. The Classic SPF 30 lotion is one of my favorites, it has a stronger fragrance than the SPF oil but it feels velvety once it dries down. I tried a tester of their SPF setting spray at Ulta and the scent was way too strong. It’s not going anywhere near my acne-prone face. Unfortunately many of their SPF face products are fragranced.
4:41 I LOVE this one for my neck/ chest/ body. Pretty much the only body sunscreen I will use because I hate spreading sunscreen lotion or spray on myself. I am very happy this product is on the market. Yes, it stings the eyes a lot, so I reserve it only for my body and I’m happy to use something else on my face.
The only one from this brand I’ve liked is their Shake Shake Mineral Milk Face spf50… it’s a very nice consistency, but I’m not a fan of the scent. You’ll have to try it out! *I think it’s exclusive to Ulta right now, that’s where I got it.
That’s so weird, I think the Classic Lotion is too strong and doesn’t give me the nostalgic scent I was looking for. The lip balms made me gag. It felt like something bitter (like perfume) dripping in the back of my throat. I tried two or three “flavors.” It was nothing like the actual flavor. I brushed my teeth and gargled and it took a few hours for the taste of the lip balm perfume to subside. It also made my throat feel numb. It was so gross and I definitely need to find something different when the sunscreen is gone. I haaaate shopping for sunscreen because my face is sensitive and trying out new things on my face makes me nervous. I just started using sunscreen layered with spf correction on top and using an SPF tinted powder to set it all and keep my hair from sticking to my face. It’s all just so gross feeling on my skin. I don’t care or mi d about the rest of my body for the most part.
Wanted to like the classic sunscreen but it broke me out, the scent didn’t even last, and it’s greasier than affordable sunscreens! A few minutes after applying, it started to smell like playdoh more than coconuts/bananas. It at least does the job but it’s so overpriced for a product that feels cheap.
Vacations definitely a miss for me .. nothing off putting, but i like kopari oil gel sunscreen better and the scent also divine. The browning lotion smell weird, i like maui babe one better
Super important is Sunscreen, I'm not allergic to niacinamide, I still need the answer to which sunscreen put on with the one the most protec your face when you have hundreds long lights, a giant room and the entired roof of inside is full of those long lights that has those plastic covers but there very strong lights and there's hundreds, for 6 days a week, which is it the mineral or tinted is most protection against light, please, thanks very much
There are derms who've said if you deal with hyperpigmentation then a tinted mineral is probably best but using sunscreen period is still better than nothing.
I have the Vacation Mineral Lotion 30 broad spectrum and it does not play well with my skincare and makeup which causes pilling. Kept, did not return and using on body. Bought on Sale at Ulta.
Thanks for the review! The whole brand is 30% on sale at Ulta rn. I've tried a few of the Vacation products. I love their spf 50 for the body and the mist keeps my makeup glowy. The mist doesn't bother my eyes, but I have accidentally inhaled it and OH MY GOD COUGHED UP A STORM.
I tried roche posay spray and it felt lovely, easy to apply and immediately knew this was NOT going to be effective lol. It's such a good idea but the vehicle for applicatin cant compare to rubbing something into the face and making sure it absorbs . I would still maybe use it to re-apply during the day. Which is what I think they're more designed for? But I would still feel quite iffy about it
None of those sound remotely appealing to me. Hard pass. Also, yikes baby oil??? I can still smell it from the 80s!! I am a kid of the 80 and lived in a beach town, my older sisters would grease themselves up and cook themselves all day long. It's crazy how fads just return from the past. This one should stay there. Oh and that whip Crisco looks and sounds sooo vile. I would love to see a photo of you in middle school or hs.
I was just looking at these at target and wondering how they were. After listening to this review, i will pass. What I love now is Neutrogena sport face, Eucerin 50 spf hydrating lotion, coppertone 50 spf spray. And I have a few others but those are my faves right now.
What I noticed is that the oils and the whip are very occlusive which is good if you have a hot and dry environment vs something more humid. I would not put the whip on my face through. I actually put an Australian (again hot and dry climate which is similar to my so cal hot and dry) old school surfer zinc sunscreen on my face and I use the colored ones as makeup. I have a pretty bronze that I apply as shadow and blush/bronze which actually makes it practical to reapply. I have a clear one and because of its slightly thicker texture it is a good primer. But the brand is People of the Earth or something like that. 😂 But I had a job traveling and have been in some environments like Austin in the summer, Florida, even Chicago or NY and yeah… I can feel the grip of the oily mess these would be there. I learned I actually prefer hot and and dry… give me the Scottsdale or Vegas event any day and I totally would prefer the oil or the whip. I can be sensitive to some fragrances. My skin hit absolutely not on the whole Bobbi Brown range because of some citrus oils. Not even sensitive but hates this. But on my body it is not as sensitive and I absolutely do love the nostalgia of this brand. The best sunscreen is the one you will actually use.
I have the oil and thought it was like a dry oil and was sadly disappointed. I just purchased the lotion and experienced the burning watery eye sensation. So will just be using it on my body…will likely repurchase black girl sunscreen as it’s my fav affordable ss available at the DS
I’m disappointed in the whipped sunscreen. A few years ago, coppertone made an amazing whipped sunscreen. It was my absolute favorite, but they discontinued it. I have not found another whipped sunscreen that is worth buying.
The oils bring me right back to my childhood when my mom would slather on oil… it’s the nostalgia factor. And that shiny look at the beach is definitely a thing. I got the whipped one just for a fun time with my kids. It’s a laugh, and spf! Win. Just did their arms and legs, used regular lotion for their faces. I’m not into scented products at all but I do get it.
I use oil (usually vitamin e oil) on the drier parts of my body over my lotion. I love for my legs, arms, and decolletage to be shiny, so I could picture liking the oil sunscreens! But definitely not on my face
I don't see myself using most of those on my face, but the thick heavy ones would be perfect for my dry body, especially my legs. I use a different SPF on my face.
I love the original Vacation sunscreen for everyday body wear, it’s one of the few sunscreens I don’t feel like I want to wash off after an hour. It’s super moisturizing. I don’t use it on my face regularly, but I have when I’ve run out of my regular facial sunscreen for outdoorsy, no makeup days. I’ve been using the mineral version on my feet since they always get burnt horribly, and it’s really helped! I’m not too interested in the whipped version or the oil because the original just does it for me. I look forward to putting it on each day!
I love that traditional smell of coconut and suntan lotion, and sunscreen. It takes me back to childhood And good memories picnicking at the lake with family.❤
Coppertone, Bain de Soleil, it’s the smell of summer.

The Vacation gelee is supposed to be a replica of the old Bain de Soleil we all used back in the day, which admittedly I loved.

I am not a sun worshipper, but I can attest to the fact back when I was younger everyone was into oils to get that deep tan, my sister was like that, me I just burned all the time but again it just was not that big of a deal, you got burned, you healed etc, My burns usually happened when I was mowing the lawn or out in the garden.
im not a big fan of fragrance skin care not even coconut!
I don't use anything with fragrance!! I use coppertone sunblock from CVS, It's great, No fragrance or alcohol... Non-greasiness!
I'm just starting the video and fingers crossed Dr. Dray doesn't hate these. I love the nostalgia of them.
Happy Wednesday guys
Happy Wednesday!
I used baby oil with iodine drops in it in the 70's 😅
I wore the spray sunscreen and applied and rubbed it in thoroughly, and still ended up tanning. I think the UVA protection is fairly low :(
When I asked them on Instagram if they have UVA PF ratings, they said that was "illegal" in the US? I think they just didn't want to disclose tbh
I have been WAITING for this
Hi Dr Dray, will you please review the new EltaMD Skin Recovery line? Thanks for all of your honest advice.
I love you Dr. Dray - but I do love the whipped sunscreen 😂 everything you said about it is true though
I have no issues with both Vacation oil sunscreens, I’m also not using them as a daily sunscreen for daily errands and work. I typically just use them poolside or on the beach.
I have not used this on my face but did use the spray on my body. I liked it. I felt that the oily feel dried down and wasn't greasy.
I did use baby oil. My mom would get it for me to help with a tan.she didn't know. 🤗 The whipped sunscreen would never touch my face either. Yuck, none of those would go on my face. 🤷♀️
Good morning Dr Dray ❤
Happy Wednesday!
I appreciate your sunscreen recommendations, Dr. Dray. I'll be sure to pack them in my beach bag for my upcoming vacations.
Would like to watch a reaction video from Dr Dray to the latest podcast from Huberman Lab talking about skincare and sun protection!
The only one from this brand I’ve liked is their Shake Shake Mineral Milk Face spf50… it’s a very nice consistency, but I’m not a fan of the scent. You’ll have to try it out!
*I think it’s exclusive to Ulta right now, that’s where I got it.
I wear it daily
Could I "spirit finger" the sunscreen Spritz into my face? Not directly rubbing, but fast finger tapping to press it in?
I wouldn’t buy any of this because fragrance but was very curious.
I like oily formulas but yeah the baby oil one seems extreme.
I know this video is absolutely not about this, but I had to say this as an Arizonan, Arizona tea is actually from New york!
This sunscreen broke me out. The pleasant scent faded quickly and started smelling like play-doh
Not trail of tears 💀😭
Here for the theatrics
🤣😂
that whip sunscreen looks absolutely annoying to apply. it’s a no for me.
I think the whip one is for your body not your face and it looks like you put a very lot on for your face.
I tried the vacation chemical one and it smells like chemicals to me no bananas or coconut and it lingers not a fan of that smell
Sunscreen oil is fine for my legs. Not anywhere else. 😁 🏜
Good to know that the Classic Whip burns the eyes.
How do you manage lighting for both indoor and outdoor shots in a video?
I have the Vacation Mineral Lotion 30 broad spectrum and it does not play well with my skincare and makeup which causes pilling. Kept, did not return and using on body. Bought on Sale at Ulta.
Hawaiian Tropic Red Label 🥥🌴🍹😁
OMG....yes, red label!!!
What do you think about those salicylic acid alcohol wipes for acne that some brands make?
I tried roche posay spray and it felt lovely, easy to apply and immediately knew this was NOT going to be effective lol. It's such a good idea but the vehicle for applicatin cant compare to rubbing something into the face and making sure it absorbs .
I would still maybe use it to re-apply during the day. Which is what I think they're more designed for? But I would still feel quite iffy about it
Desi STARK, What do you think about her videos. She seems to know what she's talking about. At least I think so. Dr. Dray what do you think?
I enjoy the Found my Skin mineral spf it’s pretty nice and I don’t like mineral spf. You get a big tube
