2008’s Iron Man kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was the foundation for what has become a multi-billion dollar cinematic franchise involving characters like Thor, Captain America, The Guardians of the Galaxy and many, many more. With how crazy stuff has become in the MCU, we thought we’d take a look back at how it all started and step inside the pitch meeting that led to Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. What was up with those awful terrorists in Afghanistan and their inability to keep an eye on their captive? Why would they provide him with a bunch of weapon material and leave him unsupervised? What exactly was Obadiah Stane AKA Iron Monger trying to do? His plan doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. So step inside the pitch meeting for Iron Man! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Maybe mainstream genre fare. Not bashing mainstream genre fare at all, but more "realistic" movies tend to make more sense. For example, I just watched courtroom drama Anatomy of a Murder. There is perhaps one scene in that film that is slightly farfetched. To say that every single movie is the kind of thing covered by Pitch Meetings or Honest Trailers just isn't true.

The reason why he was able to get the new suit working easier is because it is less flexible, which was the issue with trying to fly with Tony's suit, so the problems with precise movement are not applicable. Actually Tony's original suit was easy to pilot due to it's construction, and the enemy's suit was based on that model.

The whole 'arc reactor in his chest' thing was always confusing.
In Iron Man 1, it was initially a magnet to keep shrapnel away from his chest. Later, as you said, it somehow seems to replace his heart.
In Iron Man 2, its clear that it has replaced his heart, with Pepper reaching deep into his chest to take an old one put and put a new one in.
Then, in Iron Man 3, its back to just being a magnet (why didn't he have the sharpnel removed long ago? Its not like he's the richest man in the world who could afford the best surgeon).

    • @Kage-pm6qi
      @Kage-pm6qi 6 років тому +3

You see here's the thing:................................uh........................................................................Dr.Strange wasn't introduced yet.
But in all honesty they flipped flopped on the Arc Reactor's arc throughout the entirety of phase 1, it was supposed to be Tony's new heart but somewhere I guess they decided they wanted the "end of Iron Man" to be reoving the Reactor as a visual.

"it was initially a magnet to keep shrapnel away from his chest. "
      It was always that.
"In Iron Man 2, its clear that it has replaced his heart, with Pepper reaching deep into his chest to take an old one put and put a new one in."
That was in Iron Man 1 and she was just replacing the arc reactor, not his heart.
"Then, in Iron Man 3, its back to just being a magnet"
      It was always that,
" (why didn't he have the sharpnel removed long ago? Its not like he's the richest man in the world who could afford the best surgeon)."
There could be many reasons from the doctors saying that it was riskier to do the surgery than keep things as they are to Tony just not wanting to have the surgery( some people seem to not enjoy surgery).

except that the real movie was made on the fly without a finished script so the real pitch meeting was more along the lines of:
"So, you have an idea for a movie?"
"Yes, it is about a super hero nam-"
"Greenlit. Can you work in a product placement for Burger King while you're at it?"
"I didn't even tell you the title of the-"
    "Is that a no?"
"Of course I can put in a reference to Burger King. I'll have the super hero request it specifically and eat at least two burgers on camera."
"Done and done. We'll give it a hundred million dollar budget, a director who has never directed an action movie before, and put a former drug addict in the lead role."
"Uh... ok. You're the producer so I guess you know what you're doing."
    "I do?"

    "Thanks for stopping by."
