I told my friend the same thing .. ANd I proved that the cloning machine is fake .
"It's a sitchological thriller, no science fiction"
Possibly the most overlooked underlying possibility of this story: Alfred Borden and Bernard Fallon are not brothers/twins. One of them is a clone.
The audience is being given this truth in the very first images of the movie.......the hats(copies) and the birds.
We observe Borden, after a performance of the bird trick, discarding into a garbage can, what used to be a living bird, *seeming to exhibit indifference to life, while in contrast, Angier explicitly says 'I don't want to kill doves.' Angier is disgusted by Borden's seeming inhumanity over his wife's death in failing to recall which knot he'd tied, when in truth, Borden is genuinely saddened by Piper's drowning as Fallon was working on stage that night, hence Borden truly does not know which knot was tied.
There are so many switches that take place and mirrored reflections in so many layers of this movie, it is just amazing. An obvious example is Angier's repeated death, by drowning, mirroring his wife's drowning, and Fallon's hanging, mirroring Sarah's.
When Angier meets with Mr. Alley(Tesla's assistant), what Angier wants(a transporter machine), he identifies as what Tesla had built for another magician.
That 'other magician' was Borden.
When Borden long ago used a machine Tesla had built for him created a clone, his respect for human life and dedication to his ability to create magic for people led him to decide to sacrifice enjoying his life wholly, as a single person, to live in duality(live with his clone, not killing him). Angier, chose the other path.... exterminating a human on each night of his trick, not willing to share the spotlight(applause) with a clone of himself. That is what makes the early dialog around the birds is diversionary, misrepresenting the mens' true natures, and why Borden, with such ease, recognized the China man's sacrifice for his magic, living perpetually in an act of appearing to be decerped/weak, sacrificing the ability to just live life before/after his act as he actually is...normal/strong.
Cutter and Angier are the two that theorized that Borden an Fallon are twins/brothers. .... It is never stated by Fallon/Borden that they are brothers. It is arguably the most substantive misdirection in the movie hurled at the viewer, as, if the viewer presumes that theory of Cutter and Angier's, then you miss out on the key to understanding the message of morality. Watch this movie again, with this theory in mind, and your experience will be different than it has ever been, beginning with the very first seconds of the film.
I think at least Cutter knew Borden's secret. Cutter never liked Borden 2 (the loud, careless one who was executed) and was cordial with Borden 1, he knew from the beginning that Borden were two people. And the building full of identical birds, and Cutter's ability to trick the kid while Borden 1 failed, is a clue to Cutter's ability to manipulate and fool people, including the viewer
This is exactly what i thought happened.
There was no twin brother.
Tesla made him a machine,he used it once which created a clone (his principles stopped him from killing it so they lived together in one life) where as Hugh Jackman was ruthless and did whatever it took to win and be the best (all the drowned clones).
I always thought this film was about moral dilemma.....but lots of people say it was a twin brother.
That’s what I thought too Tesla even says he made a machine before and warns Angier but I didn’t understand how he wouldn’t know until I read your comment made it even more true
"A man with a past almost as obscure as your own"
This makes perfect sense now. A twin or brother becomes difficult to believe because you have to somehow make one of the twins disappear so they can become Fallon. Both of them can never be in the same room at once or the transported man becomes obvious immediately. Also the transported man itself makes it obvious. Anyone who knew of Bordens past would know of this and could expose the trick. He could never risk going for it if he knew he could be exposed that easily.
I believe this theory. I think both men approached Tesla for something. Borden wanted a clone, but Angier wanted a machine he could use repeatedly. This is why it took Tesla so long to build the machine, he hadn't done it before. He could clone, but he did not know how to do teleportation yet which is what Borden wanted.
I have a video proving this for anyone interested. It’s outrageous to think telsa being the keyword was just a perfect coincidence
This video is entirely dishonest, the times we see him use the machine are specifically not in the diary. Angiar only gave Bordon the pledge and the turn. He purposely never told him how he did it, that's why Bordon thought the diary was a fake. This video is poorly written and relies on a faulty premise. Also, this movie clearly showed that finding even one double that sort of resembled a person was hard, but finding someone who looks and talks the same is almost impossible unless you have a twin. This just isn't true
🤓🤓🤓
If the machine didn’t make clones who died in the tank to frame him for the murder ?? They actually showed a body on the table.
Ya the body on the table at the WAX SHOP !!!
Look in the background there is a man painting a fake head in the background it is not a morgue
We’re you even watching closely?
Jk it’s hard to catch because it’s right after the drownings scene but cutter is nodding his head in approval of the good replica wax of angier at a wax making place not confirming his identity at a morgue
How does any magic work? How does the assistant get cut in half? Thats magic. Thats the illusion !!
Root!
It's a nice theory but not true. Algiers clearly dies in the end and there is a murder trial. The story only works with the premise that the machine creates duplicates. That's the whole reason for the tanks. There aren't endless doppelgangers walking around.
Except you only see one body in one tank.
I understood the first time I watched it that the machine really truly does not work and it was confirmed when Michael Caine tells us at the end that you want to be deceived. It doesn’t matter if there were 10,000 “clone” bodies in tanks. It’s always a magic trick.
@@Machiave11i the scene where he shoots himself ?
@@Machiave11ii always put that down to wanting to keep one (maybe in formaldehyde or something) as some sick souvenir 😂 however we never see a flashback of them getting rid of the cloned bodies from the machine but then again earlier on Borden explains that after Angiers show they always do the same thing after and we see what looks like a hidden item on a wagon which we can assume is the clone of anglier every night that ends up dead...crazy film mind
@@shikamaruXchessthe scene where he shot himself was in the diary. Tesla part was in diary the Film is all a trick for us and for them this is the genius part of Nolan
One of my favorite movies of all time
The most logical thing would be to clone once and use that clone as a double, show after show. Then no one has to die.
that is what borden did in the original transported man trick. But angier killed his double every show because of his past experience with his lookalike who was a drunkard and wanted to gain power over him
One of them would have to die to frame Alfred and it would be nearly impossible to Put the tank under while the duplicit is up there
The hats are not the same!
Exactly. Until a minute ago, I thought I was the only one who noticed this immediately. That's why the cutter says at the end: you're not watching closely!
@@andreas4858 yes! Yes! It gives the movie even more depth and power!
So he went around finding doubles all over the country?
Around usa i think. He return to london after
@@mistertheory It's easier to build a duplicate machine than to find that amount of perfect doubles with the same voice
Angier has a twin its that simple, the actor gets drowned and the twin gets shot, og Angier is in the tank for The Prestige
@@mistertheoryread the novel you goofball
@pawehebda2583 yet the movie itself the 2 main actors start to look so much alike
This theory, if true, would undermine the narrative purpose of the movie, which is to showcase obsession and how it drives people to do terrible things. If this were all a trick and the machine does not clone Angier and Angier basically just uses a double, he is not really obsessed is he? He basically reigns himself to his fate and settles for less.
How come when Borden/Fallon confronts Algiers at the end he's surprised then? If he knew Borden had a clone (or even suspected Tesla made him a machine too) he'd have known the "clone" trick and would have been like oh, so are you the clone or the real one? Instead he's shocked and says "a brother, a twin all this time".
My guess is because Angier always truly believed that Borden did the trick without a clone, Angier always thought that Borden was misleading that his version of the transporting man used Tesla's machine or a clone so that's why he never believed there truly was a clone/double of Borden
Because angier was killing … that’s what he is shocked by
Exactly! No common sense from some of these people!
Na, they show the magic of Tesla in the beginning, to rule this out.
Tesla created a duplication machine, but time doesnt like doubles, so time devised a way to remove them.
Via misdirection, mainly, time confused the brothers, making them think that they killed Angiers wife, when in fact, it was time itself that forced it.
This was convenient for time, any other way creates more ripples.
Lay off the LSD!
@@mikespearwood3914 lol it would be a good story though
A clone made this video.
Nice try, but you can’t fool me.
Multiple doubles idk about that
Brilliant. I never saw it that way.
Also the videos from channel are short and to the point unlike a 10 minute uninteresting video essays from UA-camrs like CineRanter.
lol 10mins is too long?
Brilliant lol. The video is complete none sense
@@WhatisReal11 What's wrong with these people??!
Nope.
Nice theory!!!
Is it?
agree
holy shit
