I'm actually agreeing with the 70 Democrats and the 21 Republicans who voted against this bill?
Okay, and here's why:
1) We are supposed to be a country of freedom of religion and free speech.
If people want to bad mouth the Jewish faith (not race, but the faith) then, unfortunately, they can. People just cant be violent towards them.
Race/people group is another matter.
People can say (or should be able to say) whatever they want about Israel (governmental criticism) as long as they are not being threatening or violent.
And we should criticize our government/the world powers in order to hold them accountable and to let them know what we want. Hence, free speech.
I agree that saying "From the river to the sea" represents annihilation of the Jews (the people, race, and government). And if these people are being threatening and violent then (here's my number 2)
Then 2) There's already laws set in place that should be criminalizing these people without another Act being passed.
It just needs to be enforced.
We don't need another Act with who knows what else is in it (like the Bible being a n t i s e m i t i c because it says that the Jews handed Jesus over to be crucified).
What we need is state and federal government to actually stand up and stop being wishy-washy with criminals. Enforce the laws. Arrest these people, hold them accountable, put them on trial and imprison them. Let them be an example of what happens when someone violates the laws.
That's it.
We dont need new rules. We need reinforcement of the ones that are already there.
We need the First Amendment to be followed.
3) If this passes then there will be more bills presented in time.

And then that Act can say that the Torah being quoted at someone who is Palestinian could be violent hate speech.

This Act may actually be the beginning of destroying religious freedom in general...if it passes.

And therefore this could block and ban all quoting of religious texts on public spaces.
