      Better yet,I've got the original HD 600 ( 1997 ) they still look like new (hard to find) Even older are mine Beyer dynamics DT 931 (1993) they also look and sound wonderful .Better bass and treble also very open .(very hard to find ).
      I don't know about the "new kid on the block "HD 560s .But the 6XX and 6 above !? (new type aren't as good as the old ones )

      agreed. I think theres an problem with judging these two headphones without driving them with ample closed loop power supply. The 650s shine when being powered nicely by a decent amp/dac. you shouldnt have to crank the volume to max. i dont push mine past the 3 o clock position. usually sit between the 10 & 2 o clock position on my amp.

    I feel exactly the same with my HD 650 and 660S , For bad recodings i use mostly HD 650 this veil help a lot . But HD 660 are my way to go in anything else the most important was the speed , imaging and separation that i can Blind fold hear every time on these HD 660s.

    I have a lot of Headphones but i always go back to HD660s , the reason is that HD660s are not perfect on something like over 1.000 euro headphones are ...But they are good on everything . They have some warmth , they have clarity , they have smoothness, they are fast , they have separation,they have imaging, they are light , they are comfy , They are just 90% good on everything... For example Focal Clears or some planars are faster but lose on something else. None of them are good on everything.

    After getting quite frustrated because the L and R marking on the cans is not white but rather black - so hard to see in bad light, I am thrilled to find that there is a brail marking for the L side so now it's easy to 'see' in the dark!

    150ohms doesn’t mean less requirement on power compared to the 300ohms. It is just that the 150ohms headphones will need more current and less voltage to sound good. While the 300ohms headphones will need less current and more voltage. Yes the sensitivity of headphone plays a important role as well

    I have used a lot of headphones, and I can say that the 650's are the most comfy pair of headphones that I will never sell. Not the best headphone, but the most comfortable and not bad sounding. Nice on tubes. Get yourself a headphone amp and dac before reviewing headphones dude.

    • @markkilianschannel
      @markkilianschannel  2 роки тому +3

      Um, Dude, I'm reviewing the headphones. Not the amp. For my use of them. Not for how someone else might use them. Judge all you like but having a great amp doesn't make your music and mixes better. That's why the world of audiophile equipment is so vastly different to the world of pro audio equipment. And, this might surprise many, a lot of us who make music use very 'un-fancy' equipment to do so.

      @@markkilianschannel AMPs/DACs unlock the full potential some headphones. You can't truly review these headphones without giving them enough power. It's not a test of the AMP if the AMP doesn't change the sound of the headphone and only amplifies it. I enjoyed the review, nonetheless.

    Thanks for the video! I have my HD650 for 6/7 years now, and they are just fantastic! paired them with an external Sound Blaster DAC/AMP, and does the trick pretty well. I will receive the 660s tomorrow, and curious what the difference is between my HD650 and if they are a keeper. Also received the beyerdynamic dt 1990 pro as a possible replacement for my HD650 after reading good reviews, but they were quite disappointing for me. First of all, wearing comfort is pretty bad. Maybe its because they are brand new, but I feel like they are really clamped on my head, and the HD650 is not noticeable at all. Swapping the earpads is a horrible job, and they just didnt sound right for me. Very 'sharp', and I am not talking about treble. Almost annoying at some tracks. But then strangely enough also sometimes very hollow and lacking in detail when gaming. So pretty much the opposite experience as what most users have. Seems that audio is subjective after all. :) Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow to see if the HD660s is a keeper instead of the HD650.

      Looking at the frequency response charts the 660S appears to be darker than the 650 (less treble) and is hollowed out compared to the 600/650 (lacking mids)...
      I'm trying to be kind to the 660S, but I think you made the right choice in returning them if these measurements are to be trusted, haha.
      Personally, I think the Sundara 2020's with EQ are amazing (BUT, if you have bigger ears they are less comfortable than the HD500/600 series).

  • @heythere6983
    @heythere6983 4 роки тому +2

    I am comparing the 690 vs 650. The 650 I fee doesn’t naturally reproduce the intended soundstage and imaging rather it just imparts it’s own thing.
    Vocals on the 600 are more more balanced than on the 650. The 650 makes the forwards sound farther away, just about every song has the music louder than the vocals, which isn’t usually the right representation of the mix.
    Also the mid frequencies are a bit darker on the 650 and alter the tone of a song a bit. This is quickly noticeable on mid heavy genres like rock.
    The soundstage is wider but maybe a lil too wide in that it may make you think you are mixing things wider than what they will translate in other systems or conversely, make you feel something is mixed tight, yet it’s too tight on other systems and headphones without enough space .
    One quick example of the mids on the 650 is the end of dumpweed by blink 182 where there is a main guitar riff playing over or a side to a rhythm guitar with crunchy palm mutes. On the 650 the main riff is isolated too much and it sounds big and you can easily hear the reverb trails yet the palm muted guitar has less attack than it’s supposed to and is too recessed. On the 600 both guitars are more evenly balanced and the rhythm guitar has more presence because of its attack and crunch. You cannot hear the reverb as easily on the main riff not is it as isolated, but that’s how it sounds on just about everything and the song is glued together a bit more naturally. The 650 can make you feel more engulfed in the song but it adds a bit too much low end that alters tone, pushes the center a bit too far and does slightly off things with imaging . I haven’t heard the 660s but it seems they are even farther from the 600s so I feel probably even less flat and accurate in terms of frequencies and imaging.
    I’d like a slightly wider soundstage on the 600, but less wide than the 650. Just a tad wider . But overall the 600 simply does a better job all around I find. Any detail of individual tracks is easily focused on when working on that track, I can’t say the soundstage takes away from anything but in the 650 I’d say it’s not as accurate. Iv heard the 660 is even wider so I’d say even less accurate .
    I think the 6xx is less v shaped than the 660 , might be the next best thing to the 600 but as of now the 600 seem like a very solid choice

However if have the 6XX also but now fitted with custom cabs mod which also help with the lower bass end. I’ve been looking for “daignostic” headphones so that I can accurately remove noises or artifacts during editing and shape the sound just right in as neutral a manner as possible. How someone subsequently listens to the finished result is ultimately up to their headphones or speakers and EQ adjustments. I don’t want my headphones to “improve” the sound in any way or hide the flaws.
    I bought the Byerdynamic DT 990 Pro, which completely missed nearly all of the subtle noises and artifacts in the raw recordings. I was shocked at how awful the final result was when I listened to it on ordinary consumer earpods. So now I’ve ordered the HD 650 headphones, which I believe let me hear the audio as it is. I even considered the much more expensive Neumanns, but looking at the frequency response profile, they also seemed to want to “improve” the sound in various ways.
    What I can’t understand it that if a manufacturer touts their product as “reference`’ or “editing” headphones, why doin;t they just do what it says on the tin?

      @@Martin-lw8qb The HD650 headphones are fantastic! Very good for "diagnostic" audio editing (and possibly monitoring if you're in a different room).
      The DT990 are a pleasure for "audiophile" listening, but no good for editing.
      In fact, I wouldn't use the HD650 for general, pleasurable listening: they are too accurate and you'll hear every glitch and artifact.
      BTW, I recommend the Fosi DAC-05 to boost the signal if you get the 250Ω version.

      Well either the 650 or 660's would be a significant upgrade from your Sony's. But as I said in the video what's more important is how well you know the phones you're mixing on then the phones themselves. If you're happy with the mixes you're getting from the Sony's then stick to them. But when I compare my mixes on the Sennheisers and the Sony's the Sony's are much further away from what I want to hear. Those Sony's are great for in-studio work but I wouldn't mix or master with them myself.

      Might be due to the fact that he is in his 50's or at least late 40's. His ears might not have the same high frequency content they had when he was younger so he over boosts the high frequencies when he EQ's. It could also be the mic and the room but that would be mitigated by the post processing so it's either the ears or a combination of all those factors. Or maybe he has the ears of a 20 year old and I don't know what I'm talking about 😂

      Hey James. I usually just use these going right out of the laptop, but when I do use an amp it’s the Apogee Duet 2. Do they sound better with the headphone amp? Well yes, but the difference is not massive. For gaming the other thing to take into account is that these are open back headphones and so not only will you hear sounds from your environment, but your headphones will also be quite loud for someone else in the room. That may not be an issue for you but it’s something to take into account.

    They don’t play sounds accurate, the bass is always too loud even with professional masters music and the hi end is really weird

    Somewhat ironic that your audio is so bad on this video, I am listening on AKG K701 the Austrian made ones.What type of mic are you using?

      @markkilianschannel  4 роки тому +1

      It's a lavalier mic for iPhone made by Movo. I've used it on all my vids and I have to agree with you, I don't think it's that great. Time to upgrade!
