Congratulations, my daughter got married after 16 years and four boys for the same reason. Her now husband's sister mentioned to him that his mother would be his next of kin and would make any decisions. After not wanting to get married he said that he would because he didn't want his mother involved.
Congratulations 🥳. I think people forget that the wedding is just one day but marriage is for your lifetime. It’s not a competition for who can spend the most money in 24 hours. Your wedding was about the two of you which is how it should be.
Some people say “marriage is just a paper” but it’s much more than that: i always say, it makes the individuals legally responsible for one another. So whoever you marry has a huge responsibility and you literally put your life in their hands.

Congratulations. I understand completely about health concerns. I'm 67 and my husband is 69. You don't think about this until something happens. In our case cancer. Thank God he survived but what a way to wake up to the fact that we got old.

Congrats! A 2nd marriage for both. Both had big weddings before. He is 10 years younger too! He asked on Thanksgiving and we married on December 21st, just recently celebrated our 10th anniversary! My dad always said "keep it simple" this time I could hear him saying it so I listened. We married on a hayfield that was on a mountain top he hayed. I was dressed in my best jeans and a pretty oversized white sweater and muck boots, him in his furry trapper hat and his farm overalls lol. There was a big bonfire to counter the weather that turned windy & rainy washing away the sunshine & snow cover of the day before, it didn't ruin anything... his mom made our 2 tier cake from a recipie that was my grandmother's. Had everyone back to our house that was all decked out in an ice blue Christmas theme, we had (9 adults, 5 kids) where his grandmother and my mom were waiting. My daughter was 8 months pregnant with our 1st grandchild who is almost 10 now and I always tease him that he was at our wedding lol. Local JP, his aunt was town clerk she paid for that area. Cost was under $150 and most was food so I did not have to cook. No stress and we are still very happily married now with 4 grandkids and their parents all under one roof! Best wishes to you both!
My significant other is 20 years older than me. This year will be 10 years together and lived together for 6 years. Both went into the relationship not wanting kids or marriage. As we get older together… both still agree no kids but I do worry about medical issues coming up and I would not be able to be there in person to support or make decisions I know they would want. Our families are in good spirits with our relationship but you never know. Families attitude can change in an instant (I have seen it happen). He tries to assure me that won’t be the case. * My mind goes to… you don’t know what family thinks about us behind closed doors* Makes me nervous. Thank you for sharing! ❤❤❤
The similarities between us as couples and our wedding is uncanny! We have been living together for 11 years, we got married December 23rd, 2022 because Christmas is us. Our souvenirs are always a Christmas ornaments from wherever we travel, Christmas movies were watched everyday during the insanity of 202-2021. We did go to New Hampshire to one of our favorite getaway places, we live in Massachusetts. We were married in front of the fireplace where we were staying. Our best friend married us, we had a 30 minute ceremony. There were seven of us including our officiant (best friend), my daughter, granddaughter, his son and wife, and we had dinner together in the dining room. We had five small four inch tall cakes in different flavors based on everyone’s favorite flavor. It was absolutely perfectly special. They sat us at a round table, and the conversations every night were so special. Everyone stayed over for at least two nights, we stayed for six. I wouldn’t change a thing. Congratulations Autumn and Paul, from your wedding twins 😂

I saw older videos of yours where you referred to Paul as "the boyfriend" and then later on said "btw he isn't the boyfriend any longer," or something to that effect. We had a super small wedding as well and we sped things up cause my Mother in law sold the townhouse that she and my fiancé were living in, so he had to move out anyway!
Also wanted to say that yes with all the HIPA laws and healthcare disclosures, it is only getting tougher for non-spouse couples to have a say in each others care should one partner be incapacitated. There are definitely situations where a person is too ill to make medical decisions and since you are not a legal guardian or spouse, they turn to that person‘s immediate family. And therefore there could be a sister or brother or uncle or parent of theirs, making serious medical decisions on their behalf, because you have no legal say in the matter. You sure don’t want to be facing that. Congrats by the way!! The doggies were adorable. 🎉

Congratulations! A while back, you mentioned that you and "the boyfriend" broke up. In short order, he started appearing on your channel with (gasp!) a name! For a hot second, I thought you were just great exes, but eventually caught on that you were clearly back together. Now this? What fun! Congratulations to you both.
47 years ago, my husband and I got married within two weeks too and the cost was a total of $100. That’s including rings and me wearing a dress I already have and still have. We’re still happy with it!
Our two dogs, a boy and a girl also attended. They sported red bows. I kept my name, which really wasn’t done at the time. We got married outside on a rainy May PNW day. Luckily, it did not rain during our actual “ceremony.” I really did want people to know we were each other’s person too. OUr “honeymoon” was moving to WV for one year, a temporary aberration from Oregon life.
My story is similar. We decided to get married after changing jobs and had a gap in health insurance. We’d been together for 9yrs and decided we didn’t want a new anniversary date. We eloped in Maui on our 10th anniversary.
And, we just moved to the PNW from the Midwest. Good luck with the move!
Congrats!!! Me and the hubby got married in 3 weeks and cost us $300. Just the clothes. We got married at white rock lake in Dallas and my brother in law and sister in law had our reception at their house. I don’t regret it.
Congratulations! My hubby and I planned a big wedding in August 1991 but the Gulf War came, and we married with a week’s planning on January 19, 1991. A simple but lovely ceremony with a few guests. We still wanted the big wedding, and had already put so much work into it including my dress. Fortunately, we were able to have the big wedding on August 3, 1991. Such Wondereful News!!! We did the same thing...almost!! We are both in our early 60's, been living together for 12 years. Marriage was never the most important thing to us. We are so happy together, we just didn't see the need all those years. But, one night in late July, he turned over to me in bed and said, 'Wanna get married' and I said 'ok'. Hahah. That was it. Plans were made and we were married about 5 weeks later. I do wish I saw your video first, I could have saved a LOT of money on my wedding. lol Congratulations to you both!
Congrats to you and Paul ! My husband and I also did not want a big lavish wedding either . We got married at city hall , we only had family and 2 close friends who attended and afterward we all went for brunch to Juniors Restaurant . Which is so funny actually , I don’t know if you have ever followed or watched Sex and the City but in the first sex and the city movie , Carrie and Big do the same exact thing after getting married at city hall , I read that they really did film that wedding brunch scene in the real actual Juniors Restaurant . Just like you , I was never the type of girl who dreamed of having an expensive , over the top lavish wedding . The money my brother and his wife spent on their wedding (just shy of $100,000) is absolutely insane to me . They are currently looking to buy a house now and to me that $100,000 would have been a nice added chunk of a down payment towards their new home . My husband and I were very fortunate to have inherited my Grandmas house ,mortgage free ! We obviously are responsible for the upkeep such as the taxes ,utilities ,etc… However because we have no big mortgage payment to worry about ,we decided to spend a little more on my custom engagement ring and I was able to get the larger diamond I’ve always dreamed of . We also spent a little more on our actual wedding bands too . I have a larger diamond eternity wedding band and smaller diamond eternity wedding band too . Hubby also has a 2 row beautiful men’s diamond wedding band that he absolutely loves. So you are so right ,not everyone chooses to spend a fortune on the actual wedding . All of the things that come after the 4-6 hour expensive lavish wedding is what is truly important . Vowing to be there for each other in sickness and in health , through good times and bad times , that is worth more than any amount of money you could spend on a wedding ❤. You did an amazing job with planning everything ,but I can’t say I’m surprised Autumn , as long as I’ve known you and have watched your channel , you have always been pretty darn awesome at pulling things together ! Thanks for sharing your big news. My husband and I had a similar style small living room wedding in November 2020. Our friend the officiant was ordained online too. We pushed up the date to facilitate buying the home we had shared for 17 years … as renters. So, $5 to $10k plus or wedding at home. I did my own flowers via Trader Joe’s, put family photos on shelves behind us, my mother in law’s engagement ring + Amazon rings, and as we had been planning to be married (similar reasons after many years together) I had a dress from Torrid and several other white dresses in closet that were on sale as options but went for tea length dress as home ceremony. Blue kitten heels from thrift store. Our dog wore a black bow tie as he was always clad in a tux … black with white chest… this was COVID era so no going out. Only regret no family from Midwest or long distance friends or family but videotaped ceremony on iPhone. Nor did we do a zoom wedding, discussed but we needed to pull the trigger in a short time. We may have an anniversary party at some point but not sure it’s worth the money. We are committed and happier to spend the money we had been saving on our house. We are similar in ages to you and in Southern California having the opportunity to own a home is so much more gratifying then a big one day party and all the likely stress I’d endure coordinating a wedding. We never had a “real” wedding, just married on paper. You guys did it right, you had an official ceremony. Loved that you had your two weenies involved. The reasons you cited are why we got married. My husband doesn't get on with his mother and the thought that she would be the next of kin over me terrified him. Additionally were thoughts of inheritance and beneficiary. Whether we like it or not, the system is set up for married folks so you gotta play the game

The only cloud that darkened my day was my Narcissistic Mother’s disappointment of the way I chose to get married. Nonetheless the most important person, my son, was present & my husband’s best friend stood as our witnesses. My husband of 39 years and I were married five months after our first date. We planned everything in less than 8 weeks, church ceremony with 125 guests. We did all the food ourselves, minus the cake. A ton of friends pitched in.

Congrats what a surprise but completely agree in the reasoning!!! My husband and I could also not give 2 sh*ts about a big wedding. We were married in his parents backyard (who live on Lake Ontario so beautiful) with just his siblings and our parents. And a retired priest who my parents are friends with and agreed to come and marry us. We did throw a party a few months later in his parents backyard again which did cost us a bit but we made that all back easily in wedding gifts. No wedding debt and got the job done with little to no stress.

My dress for my first wedding was borrowed from a friend who had gotten married a couple of months before. The second and third wedding dresses were thrift store finds. This was so fun! Really smart to get this taken care of, sometimes you just have to work with the system -- which obviously favors married people, and why it's so important that ALL consenting adults should be able to get married! Looks like you two had a lot of fun with it! A $500 or a $50,000 wedding both end up with the same basic result -- so I never understood the desire to spend what could go toward a house or an amazing trip on what is really just a fancy party.

I think this is so important, and has been on mind lately as well. I am so sorry to hear about your loved one who suffered a stroke, and the challenges his wife is facing. In addition to the beauty of your relationship with Paul, I think it was a super smart decision for both of you to marry for all the reasons you described. Life is often unpredictable and fleeting, but thankfully, life is mostly beautiful. Cherish every moment!

I love the way you went about doing your fast and inexpensive wedding! Everything seemed so sweet and it seemed more about you as a couple than the hoopla of a big flashy event. I've been with my partner for 17 years and I think if he and I ever decided to get married (I agree with your reasons and we are both in our 40s) then I think we would do something very similar. Congratulations! 💕 Yes, that issue happened to my Uncles through their relationship. They were together 2 weeks short of their 50th anniversary. They chose not to marry. My biological uncle died back in August. It’s too much to write but through the years it did cause issues medically.
