he's not making anything up, he is a massive history buff, especially on WW2 but colonial history is another top subject of his. He is exceptionally smart and quick-witted. His stand-up routine is a character he created called "The Pub Landlord", in reality he's very down to earth and even stood for parliament in the second to last election, admittedly more as a joke than a serious bid but yeah.

Hi there Josh! The history is pretty accurate, apart from Uganda, which was never a German colony. Technically, it was never a British colony either, as it was officially a "Protectorate" and had a greater degree of independence than the next door colony of Kenya. This arose from a series of wars between christian and muslim tribes. Britain stepped in to keep the peace, rather than actively rule, and there was a considerable degree of co-operation with local rulers. Britain did fight several wars in Canada, notably in the 18th century against the French, who were finally driven from north America. In 1870, a group of residual French-Canadians under Louis Riel declared UDI and a British expedition under Colonel (future General, Lord) Wolseley sailed up the Red River in Whaling boats and put down the revolt.
